C1D1

Friday, November 12, 2010

I joined a challenge on another web site. I'm keeping track of the days that I eat all my food "with dignity". If I eat standing up or mindlessly, I start over. If I lose control or overeat to the point I don't feel good about it, I start over. We count the cycle and day. I made it to Cycle 1 Day 8 (C1D8) . After 21 good days, we celebrate and start a new cycle.

Today I'm back to C1D1. Yesterday I was doing fine until 10:30pm. Should have gone on to bed. Don't think the little splurge will show up much on the scale -- I'll weigh tomorrow -- but it is not the way I want to eat. I think counting good days may help me. We'll see. -Marsha

I love the idea of eating "with dignity." What a great phrase.

I really like the idea of eating with dignity. I know that being more aware of HOW I eat as well as what I eat has been a significant part of my journey. Like Joy I still eat in front of the TV sometimes but I pay attention and savour what I'm eating rather than just stuffing the food in my face.

As for snacking... I'm with Monty on this one. I snack but count it on the tracker. I get a strong impression that you often do more exercise than you count and that this might compensate but you know your own body and programme best.

That is a great concept that makes a lot of sense. I know I am a bad eater and always will be. I am usually scarfing down my food, ready to rush off somewhere. I eat over the sink like a good bachelor so as to not leave a mess anywhere, or I eat sitting in front of the computer. I do not have a table and chairs and living alone means I don't have to be concerned when and where I eat, or how fast..
If you can be this disciplined, good for you! Sparks advocates this style of eating, but doesn't push it like the tracking. I hope it works for you. Tracking is my mainstay.

I can see where this would work for some people. Eating with dignity is good; but, not eating mindlessly is what works for me. If I enjoy eating in front of the tv; I'm going to do it. I'm not into depriving myself of simple pleasures; like Monty though, I know what it is and it counts in my days totals. Since being here on SP my focus has shifted more to tracking fitness minutes and activities. I want to eat healthy, and do, but I don't want to spend all my time thinking about it. I'm doing much better now with my mind on activities. Always switching things around; it's what's working for me right now. Thanks for sharing. Joy emoticon

    Hi Marsha
A interesting idea, I don't think to many of us pay attention to our eating habits. One of my big changes was going from eating in the chair watching tv to sitting at a table. It really felt different.
In reference to what happened last night, I snack every night and have it in my tracker and know what it will be , that I eat, but what is important here, is that it is something you do not want to do. I doubt seriously that it will effect the weight, but our bodies do funny things at times.
Congratulations on your new web site and may you continue to be successful at it.

She Called Me Her Inspiration!

Thursday, November 11, 2010

Today I went to a training for my agency. The head presenter looked great; she had obviously lost a lot of weight. Afterwards, I told her how good she looks. She said she's lost 40 pounds and achieved a healthy BMI. Then she warmed my heart. She said I was her inspiration!!

We Made It!!

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Thanks for the support, SparkFriends. Yesterday went pretty well. The baby ate for me and burped for me and didn't slosh all of it back up. I almost lost my patience one time with the older one when she closed the bedroom door and would not reopen it and I had to put the baby down in order to do it. But all in all, it went fine. She and I had fun playing when the baby slept.

Also, I had a pretty good day eating. Stayed within my calorie range. Had a little trouble about 10:30pm figuring out if I was really hungry or not. Settled for small snack within my calorie range. Wish I could learn to handle my evening hunger/eating better.

I had a great day exercising. I went to a new weight on the horizontal squat machine, 198 pounds. Those legs sure are feeling strong. No soreness today there, either. I upped the weight on some of the arm weights. My arms are sore today and I don't use any weights heavy enough to brag about. Nonetheless, I'm making progress and getting stronger. I did 30 minutes of intense intervals on the ellliptical and an hour of moderate walking. So, I consider it overall a great day!!!

Hope all of you are having a great day!!

    Awesome!

I have read where some people 'save' some of the day's calories for the night-time snack. You could try it. My dad used to eat a bowl of cereal about 8pm.

I go to bed early with Ray so late-nite noshing isn't a problem for me. Getting up early isn't a problem because I don't like to eat before I walk.

Wow on the weights!! WooHoo!!

I am very impressed with your workouts. You are awesome. When you commented about your legs, I always felt mine were very strong with all the walking I do, but was surprised when I started Zumba, that I had burning pain that I never had. Working different muscles in zumba.
Thank you for sharing the great blog.

New Challenge

Tuesday, November 09, 2010

My daughter went to finish up a job interview yesterday and they put her right to work! Yesterday for several hours dear son in law was home with the kids. Today he is working. So I'll have two for several hours. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!! The biggest challenge may be keeping the 3 1/2 year old from loving on the 7 week old too hard. She is used to all my attention, so it will be a big change. The other challenge will be feeding the little one. The baby will have some familiar pumped breast milk, but probably have to supplement with formula. Hope she does good.

I'm going to workout as soon as I finish this blog. That way I'll have it done and it may even help me stay calmer. Remember I only raised one, so this is a new challenge for me.

The Key to It All

Monday, November 08, 2010

Some days I find it really difficult to stay within my calorie range. Other days it is not so hard. Yesterday was an easier day and today was not too bad, either.

I've said it before, but mean it more than ever. If I do the best I can each day, it will be good enough. The key to it all is to never give up. -Marsha

I absolutely agree! Progress, not perfection. We have to have some flexibility to be able to truly enjoy life. Consistently returning to our program each day, and not abandoning it is key. That doesn't mean never varying, but it's never mindless eating anymore. Even that variance, is a choice; and that's ok. Best way to never feel deprived. It has to be a lifestyle change and life is always changing! The choices are ours. Love the support we have in that here! emoticon

You hit the nail on the head Marsha. All the most successful Sparkers seem to be those who are the most determined - not 'perfect' in their eating and activity, not without challenges, but committed to getting over problems and getting on with the programme. You are a great example of this. You keep on going no matter what. The fact that it's not always easy makes it all the more worthwhile.

"Never give up" has been one of the pictures on my Sparkpage from the start. The little girl jumping up and down is from a postcard that I have by my desk at work. 'She' has been with me for years because I admire her spirit - and I admire yours too. You are a great role model.

    Hi Marsha
Your last sentence says it all - never give up. I have been fortunate in being able to stay in the range, but I do not vary my meals very much and have a good idea where I am at, I also have room to adjust my snacks in the evening.
I will tell you that you have done an awesome job on yourself and are always quick to make adjustments. You will be able to maintain what ever weight you choose.

I was able to fit into my skinny jeans three days ago and it was awesome! It takes time and I believe if I stick with it I will see the results. This motivation works in all other aspects of my life, why not with my health.

Continue believing in yourself, the best will shine through, a day at a time.
