Disney Magic

Sunday, February 23, 2014

I did it! Completed my 4th half marathon, the Disney Princess. It was really fun. There was entertainment almost the whole way.

My official time was 2:30 and maybe 35 seconds. That's not a PR, but just 4 minutes off of it. If I hadn't had the potty stop and twice circled back to kiss my hubby who couldn't find me in the crowd, I probably would have PR'ed. It was really funny when the woman behind me asked if I knew that man I had just kissed passionately!! She thought we should all just start kissing spectators! Not sure I want to be responsible for starting that custom.

There were 25000 runners. Sarah, The Program Director of our Galloway group, finished just 61 seconds ahead of me, but I never saw her. I knew about 10 people running, but didn't find any of them. Oh, well.

Now I'm feeling really spent. Don't remember being this tired after my other HMs. Could be because I've been fighting a cold or because I had to get up at 2am this morning. I know I should have pictures for this blog, but hubby didn't get any. May have to buy one. Right now I'm going to concentrate on getting rested.

Glad you had a good race at PHM! I think I might have saw you - were you in Corral G? I was in Corral G and I was sitting on the ground and you might have passed me, but it didnt click in my head until a few minutes later and then I couldnt see where you were :)

Expect to Outrun My Nose!!!

Friday, February 21, 2014

My very first race was the Senior Games 5K in March 2011. The night before I suddenly came down with a stiff neck, sore shoulders, sore hips, and various other aches and pains. My dear daughter, the massage therapist, came and rubbed and bio-freezed me and I was fine. At the time I wondered if it could be psycho-somatic or all in my head. In speaking to other runners, it seems to be a common affliction to have mysterious symptoms develop pre-race.

This time my foot that I was quite concerned about has healed. However, now my throat is sore, I'm sneezing, and my nose is running. Could this all be in my head? Well, literally it is in my head, but I don't think it is hypochondria this time. Hubby had a cold a couple weeks ago and Natalie was sick last week. But I really don't see it slowing me down. I think I'll shake it off. Truly if I'm feeling awful, I could walk the HM, but I don't think that's going to happen. I just have a positive feeling that it is going to be fun and I'm going to be fine.

This may sound strange, but warm jello always helps me when I have a sore throat. I mix up a package of sugar free jello and sip a cup of it while it's still warm. It coats the throat.

Hope you feel better!

Half Marathon Weather

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Sunday's weather for the Disney Princess HM looks pretty good, with a low of 62 degrees and a high of 80. Bet we'll finish before it is 75; maybe just 70. Ideal running weather is 55 degrees, but I'm pretty comfortable running in some heat. The hourly forecast will be available tomorrow. Rain chance for the day is 50% and humidity is over 90%, so that could be a concern. I'm a little paranoid about falling, so I don't like slippery. Usually rains in the afternoon, though, so I'm hoping there will be no downpour during the race. Overall, I'm feeling positive!!

Court Over, Princess Approaching

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

I sat in the courtroom for 3 hours yesterday and answered a lot of questions. There were 36 of us questioned. In the end, I wasn't one of the 12 selected to serve. Glad I went. Glad it is over. Glad I'm back to taking care of my dear little girls and to a life where I don't sit very much at all.

The Disney Princess Half Marathon is only 5 days away. I just have one more easy training run before then. My foot is healing and I'm hoping it won't be an issue. I'm planning to thoroughly enjoy the event!!

That is as far as I have ever gotten in my summons for jury duty. The last time I endured the questioning was very unpleasant. The attorney for the defendant just kept hammering away with the same questions (slight rephrasing variations) over and over to all of us being questioned. We were on the 9th floor and she asked each of us if we thought it was possible for flood waters to be seen out the windows!!! I never could figure out her reasoning for that one.

An Even Greater Sitting Challenge, I Suppose

Monday, February 17, 2014

I really didn't have to sit too much at the softball game. We sat in the top row with no one behind us, so I could stand a lot. I made a lot of trips to the water fountain, checked out the adjoining baseball field that was empty, got a program for my husband, checked out the concession stand but decided against anything, got to the restroom, etc. The Tennessee girls won and hubby was happy.

Tomorrow I have to go to Tampa for federal jury duty. Hubby is going to drive me in the morning to Tampa and pick up Gwen from her other grandmother before 2pm when she has to go pick up kids at school. She doesn't have enough room in her van or enough car seats to take Gwen, too. Gary will get Natalie at 3pm from school and take both kids back to Bartow to the paternal grandmother. I'm planning to ride the Greyhound bus back to Lakeland. Hope it all works out. It is very annoying that they do not allow cell phones in the federal courthouse and there are no lockers at the courthouse nor at the Greyhound station where I could stash one. I don't want to get it confiscated. There are pay phones at the bus station, so I'll call Gary to tell him when I'm leaving. There are buses at 3:05 and 5:20pm only. Wish there was a bus that would get me there timely in the morning, but there isn't.

I'm planning to take healthy food. There is a refrig and a microwave available. Hope to be able to move some and not sit all day. We'll see.

Oh gosh, that is even more annoying than me going to Bartow. It takes me almost an hour to get to the courthouse. I am almost on the Osceola line so I dread being called for jury duty but last time I could still take my phone to that one. I hope they don't do away with that in Polk County. Lockers would be a great idea or a locked closet like a hat check room. Sure hope you get to move around some - we are not used to sitting all day!
