Do I Have to Sit?

Friday, February 14, 2014

Tonight hubby wants to go to Tampa to see his alma matter, the U of Tennessee, girls softball team play U of South Florida. DD is getting off work at 4:30 so we can drop off the girls and go on. I'm used to watching sports on TV and exercising while I watch. Leslie Sansone-type moves (Walk Away the Pounds) are my favorites. I'm thinking it may be hard to exercise during the game, though. I may have to sit down so I don't irritate everyone around me. Why do spectators have to sit? And only the athletes get exercise? Doesn't seem right. I can always do isometrics, though, can't I? And maybe take some extra walks to the water fountain or something. We'll see. Would like to start a revolution for the standing and moving observers. Anyone with me????

Great idea! Even during a movie I make sure I get up a couple times, even if it is to just stretch my legs-gets more steps in!! If it were me, while a game was going on. I would take a lap around the whole arena/stadium! Hit the restroom (if needed) and sit back down! Then back up again if it is a long game!! Hope you had a good time! emoticon

I agree with Donnabright! I think a lot of times that it is very difficult to stand when in the bleachers, not to mention dangerous if you topple over onto the people in front of you. Maybe if they made the seating area more sturdy, people could move without bothering everyone else. Isometrics sounds good to me!

Getting up and walking around out of the way is a good plan.
If I were there watching the game, being very short, it would bother me if people started standing up and doing Leslie moves in front of me...even if I was standing I wouldn't be able to see over other people's heads.

Run, Dance, Live, Part II

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

I am a runner, but today is a cross training day. Gwen will be going home at 3:30, so I think I'll go to the gym and do an elliptical workout after that. The blister on my left foot is healed and I've decided to wear my well-broken in shoes for the Disney Princess HM on the 23rd. I'm still battling a funky stomach, but not going to let it slow me down!!

Last night we had a merengue dance lesson. We practiced the basic step, in and out, woman's turn and return, and the sweetheart. We seemed to have it and don't think we'll forget. There was the cutest young couple there practicing for their wedding in May. The groom's mom didn't look old enough to have such a grown man for a son. Guess the older I get, the younger they look -- LOL!

I'm glad I'm a runner even when there are challenges. I'm glad that hubby and I dance even though I have no illusion that we'll ever be good at it. Life is good, as ONEKIDSMOM reminds me each day. And life lived actively is even better! I am thankful for all the things I can do and enjoy. I never dreamed when I was 30 and 40 and 50 that I would be stronger and healthier at almost 65. Life is full of surprises, and sometimes, there are really wonderful surprises!!

Run, Dance, Live

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Ran four miles this morning in my neighborhood. It was nice to wait until after sunrise and really see where I was going! Temperature was in the low 60's at 8am, so just right for running. The dog ran 1.5 miles of it with me. It was our best attempt so far to run together. She only ran into me once and didn't knock me over, so I consider that a success. I did take her home after that, though. Definitely easier to run without her.

Hubby and I are going to dance lessons this evening. Last week was cha-cha. They never tell us what will be taught until we get there. We've had tango, foxtrot, and waltz twice each. We've had maringue (spelling?), hustle, swing, cha-cha, and rumba once each. It's a lot of fun, but if we really wanted to learn it I think we'd need to practice in between the weekly lesson, and hubby doesn't seem to want to. So that's okay. It does help keep us active.

So far, I've had to report by phone for jury instructions 6 times, but have not had to go. Fingers crossed. Son in law starts his new job on Monday and I hope I don't have to leave my daughter in a pinch.

Hope your day is going great!!

Kind of Exciting Day

Monday, February 10, 2014

Pretty exciting day today! First I got back my laptop and it feels great to have my own computer available whenever I want. I have missed it. Feel really behind on my Sparking.

Hubby and I have been furniture shopping for several weeks. I have been wanting to replace the upholstered furniture in the living room for several years actually. Finally DH agreed and today we selected our new couch, loveseat, and two reclining chairs. They won't be delivered for several days, but I'm feeling very positive about our choices. Hubby was able to save significant money by picking up the chairs from two different showrooms. He borrowed our daughter's SUV. Gwen and I went and played in the park until it was her lunchtime and then we ate lunch with her. Lots of fun for both Gwen and me!!

I'm almost completely recovered from the stomach virus I had last week. And my feet are improving, too. Counting down: after today's dose, I only have 3 more doses of the steroids and -- hooray -- that will be over!

Pretty Good

Saturday, February 08, 2014

I ran today carefully after the sun rose. I met with my running group at 6am, returned a borrowed jacket, but decided not to run with them due to my recent falls. I chose to run in daylight (7:10am this morning) and on an even surface, the path around Lake Hollingsworth. My stomach was still not feeling great, but I knew that with the Disney Princess Half Marathon two weeks from tomorrow, I was really needing a long run. I originally had hoped to go 15 miles, but at 13.65 miles I decided it was enough. I was getting a blister on my right foot and it was starting to rain. In fact, on the way home it down poured, so I was glad I made that call.

I'm not optimally trained for the upcoming event, but I'm adequately trained to enjoy the event and finish without too much strain. With the challenges I've faced recently, I think I've done pretty well. Now just a few short runs and it will be time to go for it!!

Excellent call. You are thinking long term and sustainability and enjoyment, and that's terrific.

I thought of you often while I was visiting your glorious state. And I can see that if you're exercising around Lake Hollinsgworth, you're east of Tampa so a bit north and more central than where I was vacationing, but another renowned birding location! How lucky you are!!
