Here is a picture I promised of me finishing the Women's Half Marathon. I don't know why I didn't wait one second so that ONEKIDSMOM and I could have had a finishing picture together again this year. Regret that! Oh, well. I am just too goal oriented!! (shaking my head)

*My ride showed up, almost on time, and got us to the expo in plenty of time to pick up our packets.
*Didn't have to sleep on the floor. Someone I don't know didn't show up and I got the bed meant for her.
*Two cats visited me in the middle of the night and sometimes I might have been annoyed or sleepily frightened, but I wasn't. They were so sweet.
*I slept as well as I've ever slept the night before a race.
*We got up at 4:45am in order to be on time for a 7am race.
*I stayed with 4 strangers and 1 acquaintance (plus cats) and they made me feel welcomed and comfortable. Very, very nice people. Smart and funny, too.
*The young people I thought might be noisy and up late took the race very seriously and went to bed early. (They ran under 2 hours.)
*I found ONEKIDSMOM and her cousin without problem.
*It was a cloudy 69 degree day -- not pretty, but a great running day. At least it was a pretty blue sky day for Barb the day before.
So not one of the things I'd worried about (not having a ride, not getting to packet pick up in time, not being able to sleep, feeling unwelcomed in a stranger's house, and not being able to find Barb) came true.
*Team Ladybugs looked great. I kept the wings and antenna on the entire race, and I had not been sure that would be possible.
*I felt good and strong throughout the event.
*My camera was too big to carry and I didn't even have a car to go put it back into, so I didn't get any pictures. However, lots of people did take pictures and I'm sure I'll get some to post later. (My wallpaper shows the Ladybug costume I wore today.)
*I didn't get to spend much time with Barb before or after the race since I was dependent on others for transportation.
*We finished strong, passing 147 people in the last 4 miles.
*Barb and I did end the race in an upright position, smile on our face, and knowing that we will run again.
*We got our beautiful finishers medals. Mine has already taken its place of honor in the center of the medal rack.
*Barb pointed out that I now am qualified to join the Half Fanatics. I glanced at the website. I could go in at the Neptune level since I finished 2 half marathons in 16 days or less. (15 days actually) Not sure I need that membership, but it's nice to have the option.

Hubby and I had a swing lesson Tuesday evening. I remember the SparkFriend (you know who you are, W.E.) who said she and her husband had taken lots of ballroom dancing lessons, but never seemed to remember and get any better. We may be in that same boat. So far we've "learned" foxtrot, waltz, tango, merengue, and now swing. Although I think we are freestyling more in sync than before our lessons, I can't say we are really ballroom dancing. It is good, fun activity, though, and I'm glad we are doing it. Thursday morning we enjoyed the Senior Dance. DH is dancing more often. I think his stamina is improving!
Today I got to see my sister who lives in Tucson -- half a large continent away for those non-USA SparkFriends. Needless to say, she doesn't get to central Florida too often so it was a real treat. Gwen and I went and picked her up at her daughter (my niece)'s house. Then we went to the park for Gwen to swing and slide and play with us. We had carrot sticks, apple slices, and a cheese stick for picnic snack and enjoyed the beautiful day. We saw lots of birds and squirrels and quite a few fish in the lake.
Sis will be staying a couple weeks, so I don't feel too bad leaving for 2 days for my half marathon. We are planning for my niece, nephew, and me all to run a 5K on Nov 30th. Hope I feel like running strong, but we'll see. I'm not going to risk injury if I'm just not feeling it. The other grandmother will have the girls on Sunday while I run and recover. She often has a house full of kids. I just have 2 grandkids; she has a dozen and usually has many at her house.
Really looking forward to the next couple days and beyond. Seven people from my Galloway group are running the Women's Half and I'll be meeting one of my running pal's daughters and her running friends who all live in St Pete. And, as you undoubtedly know, my intention is to run with ONEKIDSMOM as she supports her cousin in her first half marathon. Gonna be fun!!

I just deleted a boring blog with too many details. Let me just say I'm delighted to be healthy and fit enough to run my 3rd half marathon! Thanks SP and special thanks to all my SparkFriends who encourage and inspire me. ONEKIDSMOM is the SparkFriend extraordinaire, running my speed to support me last year; I hope to run the speed she runs to support her cousin this year.
I'm packed. I'm really looking forward to it!! This is going to be fun.

Oh, I'm getting excited! Just looked up the weather for St Petersburg on Sunday when I run my third half marathon. Wonder if this time the predicted weather will happen!!?! It says 0% chance of rain. Good. However, I have run wet in "0% chance of rain" before, so I know to take it with a grain of salt. The high predicted is 69 degrees. A cold front is predicted on Saturday, bringing the temps down. The low predicted is 57 degrees. Sounds great for running. About the only negative I see predicted is 18 mph winds. I'll probably need a garbage bag or something like it to be a disposable windbreaker. Will be a bit chilly before we start.
I've begun to pack. I'm taking a sleeping bag and hope the floor and I agree. May have extra stretching and warm up issues. We'll see. I want to take fruit and am thinking about other portable foods (cereal, powdered milk, protein powder) that will go well before the HM. Last time I ate too many power bars, but one would probably be fine. I know my group is planning to eat at the Columbia Restaurant the night before the half. I'm trying to decide if the salad (I think it's called the 1860 Salad) is too salty to eat before. Maybe I can get it with plain olive oil and vinegar. I will make sure to drink plenty of water the day before.
So this is another taper week. I ran yesterday. Will probably run tomorrow, too, and then walk and do some low impact aerobics the rest of the week . On Saturday we'll be at the expo, getting our number and not doing anything too strenuous. The group did talk about going to the beach to walk. I doubt if it will be warm enough to swim, but I'll take my bathing suit just in case.
I enjoyed the bag from the St Pete Women's Half last year and used it for a gym bag for months. It's starting to come apart, so I'm hoping for another really nice one. The tech shirt from last year is one of the best fitting and most comfortable I have. I suspect that's because it is made for a woman.
The best part is getting to reconnect with ONEKIDSMOM. I'll also meet some new people on Team Ladybug! I've got a ride picking me up at noon on Saturday. This is going to be fun!!
