Enjoyed our 6 mile sunrise run this morning. There were 6 women -- I was the oldest -- and our male leader in our pace group. We made it in just about 65 minutes or about 11 and a half minutes per mile. We used 3 minute walk/1 minute run intervals; it was a little cooler than most of our recent runs so we upped it from the 2:30 run intervals we had been using. The pace was comfortable for me most of the way. Again, I found myself at the front of the pack on the downhill and flat areas, but falling back on the inclines. I took about an extra 30 seconds of walk one time on a hill -- right before our potty break -- and I saw how easy it would be for the pack to go on without me. That motivated me to keep up.
We joined with several other pace groups to total about 50 of us runners drinking coffee (and water) outside at Starbucks. Most of those training for full marathons had not returned by the time I left, but I got to see all the other half marathoners. It's just a great group of people!
Next week I'll be out of town at the resort during the group run, so I hope to run the scheduled 7.5 miles on my own. The following week I'll be doing Galloway speed training for the first time. I know it involves 800 meter or half mile repeats on a high school track. Last year I did the half marathon "to finish" training program, so there was no speed training involved. This year I'm doing a half marathon time improvement program, so there is. Hope to benefit from it.
Some people have just joined us in the last couple weeks to train for the first Lakeland half marathon on November 9th. I'm signed up for that one. Not sure I can PR (personal record) as it is quite a hilly and scenic run between lakes, but maybe. I'm still torn as to whether to run the St Pete Women's half on Nov 24th, just 15 days later. I would love to run it again, and see ONEKIDSMOM (whether we run together or not -- she's running with a relative probably faster than I run), but hubby is talking about going out of town. We'll see. I am committed to do the Disney Princess Half Marathon on February 23, 2014, just for fun. I've heard it is too crowded to run fast, but again, we'll see. Then it will be time for me to train for faster 5Ks. If I'm injury-free and feeling fast, I might just qualify for the national Senior Games. I'm looking forward to all of it.
You know, I only started running as a way to maintain my 80 pound weight loss and increase my fitness, but I have come to enjoy it immensely!!

Tomorrow morning is a 6am Galloway group run of 6 miles. I already have my clothes, shoes/socks, Garmin, sun screen, and fuel belt laying out. Don't need a flashlight this time of year because the sun will be on its way up. Don't think I'll need my hat either, though, because it probably won't be too bright by the time we finish. Last week I found the pace challenging. Think I'll be up for it tomorrow. We'll see.

Going out of town for a week, taking the kids with us. Should be fun. The resort has lots of activities for all ages and free Wi-Fi so I should be able to post, unless I get too into the activities. I can be a bit obsessive. : )
Tomorrow is Natalie's last gymnastics performance of the season. Hubby is going for the first time. Gwen wants to swim again afterward, so we undoubtedly will.
Today's run was good. Our 2 mid-week training runs have gone from 30 minutes (plus warm up and cool down) to 45 minutes. Hope to keep to my training schedule during the resort week. The "long run" is only 6 miles so my Garmin and I should be able to accomplish that alone -- or they may have a treadmill. I will need hubby to do some child care while I run, and he probably will. Taking carrots, fresh fruit, low fat cheese sticks, and powdered milk. Probably will do okay eating out, although the sodium is always an issue.
Even with my shining sink and improving household, it will be good to have a change of scenery. When we return it will be time for the back-to-school routine. As my daughter likes to say, it's all good.

Great local SparkTeam dinner this eve! Really enjoyed the lively conversation.
The Flylady Baby Steps are still paying off. She says something like, "You're not behind. Jump in where you are!" Well, that's just the encouragement I need, a mantra of energy and hope as well as acceptance/forgiveness. I'm really fast at making my bed now, right when I get up, even before the bathroom. I put away the clean dishes while my tea kettle is coming to a boil - and then I can put dishes in the dishwasher all day and have clean counters. Why didn't I think of this years ago?? These routines are so helpful. Laying out my clothes the night before, including the shoes, even when I'm not planning anything special, really helps me feel purposeful!
It is so similar to my experience losing weight. When I "yelled" at myself constantly about the way I looked, the way I ate, the way I sat around, I made no progress. When I started focusing on all the little things SparkPeople wanted me to do and track -- the freggies I eat, the water I drink, the exercise I actually do (even 10 minutes), all the good things that contribute to my health, well, success was not far behind. Feeling bad about myself didn't help; recognizing progress did. It's partly that thing that SparkGuy writes about, the criss-cross effect. Start doing good things and the pendulum picks up speed and it gets easier and easier. I'm starting to just occasionally have a positive thought about the house I live in now!! So I can't say I've totally overcome CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) but I sure am making headway. Anticipate some obstacles, but have total faith in final positive result. AND without sacrificing my weight maintenance or my running efforts!!
Yesterday I didn't like my morning weigh in and just gently dialed it back a bit. Down 1.8 pounds this morning. Yes, it's mostly sodium, but I believe if I consistently take early corrective action, I won't end up needing to lose 10 pounds ever again in my life!!
