Setback and Job Decision

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

I woke up wanting to run this morning. It was in my heart and soul - wanting to go, go, go, free. But when my feet hit the floor this morning, a whole section of muscles rebelled and told me that today is not a running day. Yesterday while trying to take an easy walk break from work, I tripped on uneven sidewalk. Almost fell. Caught myself, but immediately experienced a sharp pain. Darn. Setback.

I was hoping to run another 5K on June 1st and start half marathon training shortly after that. We'll see.

Thanks to all of you who made suggestions about my job opportunity. So far so good on that issue. I believe I can contribute without stressing myself out. For May, I'm working in the office as a volunteer three days only, and the acting director can call or e-mail me with questions. Although it is flattering to know there is paid employment available if I want it, I am affirming that I want to remain a retiree and caregiver to my grandkids!

    OOOH Marsha,
sorry to hear about your near fall. I had my left knee swell and be uncomfortable, not quite painful, for over a week, and I have not idea why.

I wish I knew what I wanted to do.. I am bored silly, even with being able to read, crochet, or walk whenever I want. So, today, I went looking for work and set up a couple of appts. Even applied for a 20 hr. week job as an admin asst... I was so focused on Money all my life, it seems weird to not NEED it (or at least I don't think I do - maybe others know something I don't) now I need to figure out what I WANT to do for a change.
Hope you feel better soon.

Hey, I found one more 5K picture from Saturday the 11th. I don't think either foot is on the ground in this one:

They still haven't posted the pictures taken at the top of the hill turn around point. If mine becomes available, I'll probably post it, too!

Promised Pictures - Mayfaire 5K

Monday, May 13, 2013

This picture shows me three seconds before the finish line. My gun time was 29:40, but my chip time was 29:02.

I believe this picture is at Lake Mirror near the beginning of the race.

I believe I am somewhere in this throng:

These two pictures were taken near the end of the race:

This is my nephew Martin finishing the race. His chip time was right at 2 minutes less than is showing on the clock.

Here is Martin earlier in the race:

I do appreciate the Lakeland Runner's Club providing hundreds of free pictures of this great event!!

Not the Pictures I Intended to Post Today

Monday, May 13, 2013

Yesterday was a hot day and the kids enjoyed the new pool. It took me an hour to blow it up, but I think it was worth it. Natalie likes the spray feature; Gwen not so much, but she loved the pool.

Not sure it will be warm enough to make us want to use it again today, but it will be soon again -- and for many months.

I expected to be posting pictures of the Mayfaire 5K, but they still aren't on the web site. I see this morning they put a link to the Cool Running Results on the page, so it will probably be soon.

Oh, to be young again and enjoy that little pool. I grew up on a farm where we never had any type of pool. Once a year, my father drained and scrubbed the big water trough for the cows and then with the fresh water in it, he allowed me and my brother to play in it before the cows got back to drinking out of it. Funny now that I remember it, but it was a big deal for us back then.

When I Was a Lot Older

Sunday, May 12, 2013

The pictures of yesterday's 5K haven't been posted on the Lakeland Runners Club website yet. I also had 2 friends who came to root for me. I know them from the YMCA and from the senior dances. They said they'd get a finishing photo of me, but I could not find them after the race. Oh, well.

I do want to share my favorite compliment from yesterday. The CEO of our local United Way, where I worked from 1997-2003, came up to me after the race and said how good I looked out there running. He's been a runner for many, many years so I valued his comment. I lived much of my life in the 160-185 pound range, but in 1998 and 1999 I had some real health problems and indulged myself with comfort eating. I hit my highest weight of all at 212. He remembers me that way. When I introduced him to my nephew he said, "Marsha and I worked together years ago, when she was much older." My husband says that makes no sense, but I knew exactly what he meant and it made me smile -- big!!
