Runners United

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Last evening's Runners Unite for Boston event was moving, which I really did not mean as a pun. That hundreds and hundreds of people showed up for an event that had been publicized only for 48 hours is pretty amazing. People were so touched by the events of the Boston Marathon they wanted to do something, something. My nephew and I sure wanted to. So we ran. Some runners were sad. Some defiant. Some determined that running events will not change. We saw firefighters running in full gear. We saw more than one person running with a heavy American flag. We saw babies in jogging strollers and an old man running with a cane.

We are in this picture below, although I haven't actually found us yet:
We were proud to participate.

Savoring the Moments

Monday, April 22, 2013

We truly did have a great time at Epcot on Saturday. Here's pictures of the grandkids having fun in Imagination, playing music by jumping on light squares:

Those are the times to remember and savor! I have a lot of mundane tasks and housekeeping chores to do today, but just remembering these special times keeps a smile on my face! I also recommit again to eating as healthy as I can which includes a 100% tracking!!

It truly is the Magic Kingdom for kids!! I was eternally grateful Mom sacrificed extra to make the one day we spent there special. It was a very long road trip and she made sure we saw as much as possible along the way -it was the highlight of my childhood growing up. We saw lots, from the red wood forest to the grand canyon. She was a single parent working 3 jobs to raise us, don't know how she did it.

It IS so hard to track when someone else makes the food and doesn't share all the ingredients. A day off, now and then, is necessary, and it makes you appreciate the regularity of your "normal" day and food. (and your granddaughters are cuties!)

Disney World Fun

Sunday, April 21, 2013

We had lots of fun at Disney World yesterday! Here's some evidence of recent good times:

I carried around a lot of healthy food and water yesterday all day, and still ended up going significantly over my calorie range by bedtime. Oh, well. I don't have to be perfect!

I missed my Saturday long run, so got up this morning and ran 8.66 miles. Felt good. I love the group long runs, but on the other hand, getting to set exactly the pace I want is a treat, too!

Have a great day, healthy and happy, everyone!!

Refusing to Feel Old Today

Thursday, April 18, 2013

When my daughter told me she found 5 grey hairs, it was like I went into denial. I've been grey for quite some time and quit coloring 8 years ago. I've accepted that I'm a grey-headed older woman. I love being a grandmother; I don't mind looking like one. But my little girl? How could she have grey hairs?? This just cannot be. Oh, I know. I was 32 years old when I had my one and only child so I could easily have a child 10 years older. I definitely am old enough to have a grey-headed kid. So why do I feel like I'm in shock?

And then there was the great event yesterday. It is with great joy that I tell you my husband became a great grandfather yesterday. His married 19 year old granddaughter gave birth to a beautiful little boy, Rylan. Why don't I feel as much joy telling you that I am now a step great grandmother? Cannot be. But let me let you ooo and awe and coo:

He is just darling. We'll be going to Tennessee to meet him the first of July.

One of my SparkFriends wrote recently (you know who you are ONEKIDSMOM) that I'm not getting older, I'm getting faster. Truth of the matter is that I am getting older, but I am getting faster, too. Today's challenging workout was half mile repeats at 7.1 mph/8.5 minutes per mile. Coach told me to do 4 to 6 of them depending how I felt. I did all 6!! I look at some of my running buddies who are my age. Running doesn't stop aging, but it does add life to the years!!

So this old lady, with a greying daughter, and a new great grandchild, is delighted to be living life fully and fit! We can't outrun the years, but we can just keep running with a smile ear to ear!!

Wow! What a sweetie! Congratulations on the great grandkid!!
You look fabulous to me! I am so glad you don't color your hair. You have earned every one of those grey hairs and wear them proudly! I had my first grey hair at age 24. Its not so noticible on me because of the multitude of colors that makes up my red from very light strawberry blonde to the darker ones, but it is considerably lighter then it used to be -think carrot top :P I won't mind going all white because it will finally allow me to wear all colors instead of avoiding the clashing ones.
Keep on being the fantastic fit running Queen that you are! Bet very few grandkids can say they have a granny that can run a marathon!!

I'm quite bummed about this Achilles Heel pain I've been having. I was really running fast for awhile, then this happened and now I'm lucky to run a 9.5 minute mile. Most day it's more like a 10.5-11 minute mile. But I keep moving.

I've been colouring my hair since it grew back after I had it shaved off for a brain op in 2007, I've experimented with colour/highlights and lowlights and styles ever since, and as I'm going white (not grey LOL) it keeps looking ancient at bay. Well a girl's gotta look her best LOL

emoticon Now that baby looks like a boy!
I color my hair as I was not born with grey hair and I don't want it. I'm just happy to have lived to be 63, since so many of the girls I grew up with have already died. MaryAnn, Kaye, Brenda, and Pam all died last fall, and lots others died much earlier.

I mother is 90 and I don't remember her having grey hair. I think she went from black to white. Hoping mine will be the same color when I am her age. Beautiful, beautiful great granddaughter!

You look neither like a great grandmother OR an old lady!! I'm 65 and LOVE my life today - the joy of retirement and the freedom to travel for me more than makes up for every wrinkle and gray hair!! Now if I could just get brave enough to quit coloring my gray hair....

With your stamina, no one could call you an old woman. I have nieces that are younger than my children's age that are grandparents.

My grandmother lived to age 92. In the last years of her life she was extremely proud of her age and constantly asked waiters and other strangers to guess how old she was.

This blog made me smile--I think I found my first gray hair before 30--haven't colored mine for several years now either (41 now)--and my mother thinks it's so beautiful that she quit coloring hers now too--and it's gorgeous!
Adorable little bundle:)
