Scanned Pictures Experiment

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Not sure if this Senior Games picture of the 900 yard power walk race will post to SP or not, but I'm going to try:

Well, it's sideways. Will try to fix it!! The next one is near the beginning of the 5K Road Race. I may be huffing a little at that point and the sun is bright so I pulled the brim down too far for a picture. Oh, well.

I've got a couple more pictures, if I could only find them on the computer.
Oh here's the 5K Power Walk silver medal presentation. My time was 38:03:

Here's the Gold Medal ceremony for my 29:01 5K Road Race:

These are the pictures I got at the Senior Games closing ceremony and scanned. So it is 4 and a half days later and I'm still celebrating!!

SparkPeople Blesses Me in a New Way

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

My running coach wants me to e-mail her my food intake on a daily basis. How cool that SP lets me export my food tracker to Excel!!?! Easy to attach it to an e-mail. Did it this morning. I added a sum total row in the Excel file. I bet the coach will be impressed with all the nutrients I'm tracking!!

As promised, I weighed this morning. Up 2.2 pounds in the past 5 days to 128.4, and yesterday I was actually a few calories below my range. Based on what I've eaten, I think some of the gain has got to be sodium or maybe glycogen storage in the muscles due to all my recent activity. So I'm going to be very careful for the next several days and see where I am. I refuse to feel discouraged! I am going to figure out how to fuel my activity AND achieve the weight I want!!

Why does your coach want your food diary?

Hmmm, I'm ALWAYS up after a very active day, no matter how (little) I've eaten. Never thought of glycogen storage. Works for me! emoticon

Fitness Related News

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Yesterday my hubby and I enjoyed the Polk Senior Games closing ceremonies. Almost everyone there had on medals; one woman had on 21 of them!! I heard the most won was 28 this year. We wore ours - his for chess and mine for running and walking. We got to meet the oldest competitor, 98 years old, and marvel at the winners in the 85-89 year age group running down the aisle to pick up their trophies. We got lots of give aways and goodies as well as four pictures of me participating. I'll try to scan and post them later. There is one I quite like of me near the end of a walking event. In the running photo I'm far from making it look effortless, but I'm doing it!

I ran with a new group last eve, too. The group is set up to help runners improve their time for the Mayfaire 5K on the evening of May 11th. The coach is an awesome fit woman who has made serious attempts at the Olympics in the not too distant past. Last eve I ran a local lake (2.84 miles) in 27.14 minutes. Some of the people are training for their first 5K; some are pretty fast already. I think I'm going to enjoy this coaching experience. I expect better times and even more joy to come from my running!!

Another fitness-related victory is that the YMCA asked to feature my Y story. So today Natalie, Gwen, and I are having our picture taken together. I'm not sure if we'll be on the Y wall or in the newsletter. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Tomorrow I commit to weigh again. I've stayed off the scale for since Saturday's competitions and haven't done as well eating as I'd like, but not too bad. My next race is April 13th. I'm not sure two weeks of cutting calories will get me to my happy weight, but maybe. Now is a good time to give it a good try!! I'll have several weeks then to eat optimum healthy maintenance to prepare for the next race.

What an uplifting experience! I do envy you being able to compete in things like these :) I used to have that competitive edge when I was playing paintball in my 20's and in my early days of bridge. Its lots of fun and motivates you to improve the next time out. Enjoy your photo shoot and feature!!
Glad you are having a new running challenge!
Keep up the great work, and remember to fuel up properly for your races, dieting shouldn't be the main focus here.

The Promised Pictures - Senior Games 5K

Sunday, March 10, 2013

Here's a picture of Aquagirl, her husband, and me before the Senior Games 5K. They came before 8am to keep me company. Cyndi even warmed up with me. I appreciate them coming to root me on so much!!

Then my niece and nephew came, too! I had my biggest contingent of supporters ever!! (As it warmed up I changed out of the long sleeve shirt into short sleeves.)

I should have asked them to take pictures of the end of the race, but I forgot and put the camera away in my car. Oh, well. I have a shot of the track, but it is too large to post and if I crop it you won't see much.

Here I am with my Gold Medal after the Senior Games 5K:

I didn't take any pictures at any of the other events. I should have, but was focused on other things --- like racing four events.

29:01 5K

Saturday, March 09, 2013

I'm so happy that I ran 29:01 in the 5K Senior Games and got the Gold!!

My cheering squad - Aquagirl and hubby and my niece and nephew were there. I really felt special!!

I also placed in the 5K Walk and the 900 Walk. So, 3 Senior Games events and 3 medals today!!

Then on to the Shamrock Run/Walk and Jog with your Dog where I paced my nephew. I pushed him, but he did it. He took 2 minutes and 2 seconds off his 5K last month (over 4 minutes off his first 5K in January) for 43:33. Believe it or not, but I placed with that time, too.

So, I'm tired. 10.2 racing miles plus warm up walks and jogs. 4 awards though. Will post a couple pictures and more details tomorrow. I am so blessed to be able to do this racing. Today has been a very good day!!

That is so awesome! At one time I coordinated the local senior games in my area, and went to the state senior games several times. There are some amazing athletes and it makes me so excited what people over 55 can do. I don't know who is coordinating them now, but if I hear something I'm going to sign up this year. But we have a small community so there isn't a lot going on with it. Mostly people qualifying for state games, and sometimes there will be only one person in a gender and age category. I could place for sure. Not near your time though! That is really so wonderful and congratulations on all your medals today! Get some well deserved rest!
