I'd seen the funny on the Daily Spark Page, but didn't even think about there being somewhere I can see a bunch of 'em. Thanks.

I have been enjoying the funnies in the e-mails, but had no idea they had their own separate page -thanks for the link!! An interesting feature of those cartoons is you can click one to enlarge it, then get a slideshow of cartoons from that particular artist -I clicked on one with a dog and am now happily enjoying a series of doggie funnies Comment edited on: 1/28/2013 1:09:12 AM Report Inappropriate Comment |

Yes, I laughed! Let's see, if 5 K is 3.1 miles, 401K would be... 248.62 miles. Whoa... talk about your ultra marathon!

In 2012 I only had two Weight Watcher weigh-ins below 130 pounds, so at 130.2 today I weighed the least I have since September 2012. The other lower weigh-in was in January 2012. (At home, on the other hand, undressed and unfed, I had many weigh-ins with a middle 2.) So that is just another indication that 2013 is off to a good start. Still would like to stick around 126 at home and 129 at WW. Time will tell if I can do it!
Today I got up at 4 am to meet my running group at 5am. There were 5 of us at the beginning, but one other runner, a mid-50's ex-military woman, and I were going faster and the other 3 told us to go on, so we did. We covered 10.41 miles in 2 hours and 2 minutesat run 2 minutes/walk 1 minute, and that included a warm up and cool down. It was 51 degrees at the beginning of our run and I felt pretty comfortable in shorts and short sleeves throughout, although when I tried to turn my flashlight on and off while running I was aware that my hands were cold. We finished after sunrise around 7am. I would rather run at 6am or even 7 during the winter months, but the people running my pace like earlier, so I'll adapt.
I took along corn cushions, as I've developed a hard corn on my second toe. It didn't bother me as much as I feared it would and I managed without stopping for a cushion. I'm thinking after my 5K this Friday I'll try a corn pad to remove it and see if it works. I'm afraid I'm going to make my toe a whole lot sorer before it gets better. Anyone ever treated a corn? Anyone think it would be smarter to go to a podiatrist than treat it myself?? Any advice you can give is appreciated!
My nephew wanted to walk the lake, so even though I didn't need the exercise today, I walked with him and my niece, his sister, the 2.84 miles plus another .8 to get to the restroom and back to the lake. He's going to run his second 5K on Friday with me. She is leaving to visit her mom (my sister) in Tucson this week. We'll see how he does running without her to pace him. I do plan to race, so I'll undoubtedly be ahead of him, but will root him on to the finish! I'm glad I walked the lake because when I ran it was dark, but walking I appreciated the peace and beauty in the daylight. One day I'll take my camera to the lake.
Hoping everyone is having a super healthy and happy day!

What an impressive run! Well done!! As I have many foot problems and corns are just one of them, I regularly see a podiatrist and its far easier to get them shaved off then using a slow acting chemical. It also doesn't hurt and you feel better walking on it right away. Corns are a bulidup of skin due to surface irritation. A podiatrist would be able to give you a clue as to why you would be getting them. For me its because I put a lot of weight and pressure on my big toes because the little ones don't pull their own weight since my surgery (they are shorter then normal and are not all straight and making contact with the ground) Have a super Sunday, keep up the great work! You have to be real careful with those pads or they can burn your good skin. I know because I done it. After that I had a doctor remove it and then he told me how to avoid it and that it has to do with how you walk on your feet.

Great show, especially with a corn! I had one once and it hobbled me. I treated it myself with an OTC preparation and pad, and the kernel popped out after not too long (a week maybe). It has been decades, so I don't recall how long exactly.

Walking is such a good "active recovery", so good for you for saying "yes" to your nephew. Nope, never treated a corn, so no clues from this direction. Hope whatever you try works... the first thing! Report Inappropriate Comment |

I'd be wanting the podiatrist . . . and to give advice as to whether now or AFTER the race. Like you I travelled lots as a young woman and had my children later (at age 33 and 36). And like you I've "done lots" . . . or so people tell me! (I myself feel more like I've stumbled along and it's hard to get to be this age without having accomplished something!!). But: I still do see a lot of people who are worried about "missing out" . . . in comparision with what they had before, or what they would like to have right now, or what others have that they don't, or what they hope to have in the future but fear they won't be able to get . . . . . I am a person who loves the moment: skiing today was absolutely marvellous, best conditions yet this winter and so gloriously sparkly!! Report Inappropriate Comment |

So a professional, Marsha. No matter what, you need your wheels! Great training...and some. I'm looking up some alternative interval ratios to use for my 10K on Saturday next. It's fun to T&E (test & evaluate) these different combos. Stay strong... Monty Report Inappropriate Comment |
