Flexibility Needed

Wednesday, August 08, 2012

Just got back from the Y. Met DSIL there and gave him the kids before my workout. I will be glad when Gwen is well enough to go back to the nursery, since morning workouts are my favorites. But at least Gwen doesn't feel bad; she just has a runny nose. I went 5 miles on the treadmill in just about an hour in run-walk-run intervals . I started out tired, but picked up steam and ended up feeling good. I find that is often the way with 5 pm workouts, while with morning workouts I feel good from the beginning.

This Saturday I'll run with my Galloway group. We are scheduled for 6.5 miles. I'll ride with my cycle group on Sunday, but on Monday I'm headed out of state, flying 2000+ miles to visit my 85 year old mom who has recently entered an assisted living facility. I plan to do all 3 of my scheduled training runs during my visit. I'll be back the following week. Hope to be committed and flexible enough to stick to the plan!

Gosh, I so understand when you say that morning workouts are better for you....it seems for me that as the day goes on my steam lessons. but I too have also noticed that if I just push myself to get in the pool and do some laps or if I need more steps on my pedometer to meet my goals and I just get started then I seem to pick up energy and of course feel so much better for doing the extra exercise. You sound like you are doing just great with the running. Keep up the good work!

I so agree with you on morning workouts! Its no wonder people stuck having to do evening workouts find it hard to stick to! I know I need an extra push to get out for my evening classes, its a good thing I enjoy them so much and have great instructors!
You great organizer you! I will bet you will really enjoy those out of state runs because you will get to explore new scenery :)

When "real life" intervenes flexibility is a must. But I know you've proven you HAVE it. So hope your trip goes well, and that Gwen gets past the runny nose so she can be more "portable" for your workouts, too.

Marsha, wishing you all the best in re: your visit with your Mom. I've been there/done that - first with MIL who lived nearby, and then with my Mom who lived in TX, but near my sister.

Your workouts sound great. I hope little Gwen's nose quits running soon!

Inspired and Cheering

Monday, August 06, 2012

Inspired by Aquagirl and her dedicated homemaking efforts detailed in great blogs, I tackled a chore I'd been putting off for a long, long time. Let's just say that 5 year old Natalie now knows what a dust bunny is and can attest that there are no longer any under my bed.

Gwen, 22 months old, doesn't feel bad, but her nose is running worse than ever, so I'm not taking her to the Y nursery. I got up and did my training run in my neighborhood. Heard a neighbor yelling, "looking good," and truly appreciated the encouragement. And thinking about training, little Gwen with very little direction, took it upon herself to use the potty for the second time here. Her mom just called. She did it at home, too. We are cheering. She clearly loves the encouragement as much as I do!!!

Good eating day with lots of fresh produce. I hope to get inspired by another blog I read this eve. Mirage727 blogged about, among other significant points, running on clean fuel. Running on Clean Fuel. I think I've found a new mantra!!

Blue Sky Day

Sunday, August 05, 2012

I rode with the cycling group this morning a little over 14 miles. I'm spoiled as group leader Cindy usually posts the picture she takes immediately, but I don't see it today on FaceBook. There may be some technical glitch. There were 5 of us today. Unlike last Sunday, I was good and remembered my helmet, so my new short do doesn't show in the picture anyway.

It was a blue sky day with quite a bit of breeze. At least half of the trail is shady, too, so starting at 8am wasn't a bad decision. We saw lots of birds. One of the riders considers cardinals lucky, so she counts them - a dozen today! And when we got to Bartow and crossed a major intersection I wasn't near as scared of the traffic as I was the first time. (This is just the second time I went off the trail at this busy point.)

Gwen is napping now and Natalie is entertaining herself for a moment. We're having roasted pork tenderloin and veggies this evening. It's another happy, active , healthy day here in central Florida!

Motivating Run

Saturday, August 04, 2012

The Award Junkie in me just loved this picture and needed to share it:

I "ran" 3.1 miles this morning starting at 5am. I think it took us 52 minutes. Our group was a 68 year old marathon veteran and a 52 year old former sprinter nursing an injury as well as asthma. I certainly could have gone faster, but the company was great! The determination of these 2 to run despite big challenges I found very motivating.

Then we met up with about 8 more people at 6am. They said we'd run 5 more miles, but it came out to 4.4 miles (for a total of 7.5), and that was enough for me since my recent longest run was 6 miles. The second run was definitely faster than the first. Enjoyed the coffee and company afterwards, too.

Hope everyone is having a happy, healthy weekend!!

Happy Surprise

Friday, August 03, 2012

Hubby came home from the doctor. He had lost 12 pounds in last six months. I said that I was sorry I hadn't noticed, and he said not to worry, he had absolutely no idea he'd lost any weight. So here I've been ranting (mostly here on SP) that he eats so bad and exercises so little and that I have no influence on him. Well, I'm rethinking that. Of course, I'll take credit for those 12 pounds -- hee, hee, hee. Not really. He's a big boy and does what he wants. But maybe I've had a bit of influence after all.
