Happy Surprise

Friday, August 03, 2012

Hubby came home from the doctor. He had lost 12 pounds in last six months. I said that I was sorry I hadn't noticed, and he said not to worry, he had absolutely no idea he'd lost any weight. So here I've been ranting (mostly here on SP) that he eats so bad and exercises so little and that I have no influence on him. Well, I'm rethinking that. Of course, I'll take credit for those 12 pounds -- hee, hee, hee. Not really. He's a big boy and does what he wants. But maybe I've had a bit of influence after all.

I'm jealous of my husband, he just thinks about losing weight, eating healthier, exercise and he loses 10lbs. I have to watch every bite, workout 2x a day, and I might lose 5! Oh well at least I "earn" every pound I lose!

Congratulations to him, assuming since I don't know him, that he DID want to lose weight.

Well, it's a known fact that when one is eating in the company of someone who is making good choices, one tends to make better choices... so maybe, maybe your strong healthy habits and determination had a little effect?

Details for Local Team

Thursday, August 02, 2012

Here's another picture of Tuesday's yoga class. I'm in teal (aqua?) toward the far wall. For the Polk County Team, the location is the Unity Chapel across the street from the small Publix on 540A not far from my home. Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm, and according to the sign at the front of the building, several mornings as well. They provide yoga mats, block, bolster, and blanket. The teacher is excellent and starts the class by talking individually with each student regarding the state of their body. She is a marathoner, too, and her caring nature is very evident.

Yes, I know the Y now offers a yoga class and I'm already paying for the Y. But I wanted to go with this group of people. The class takes up a love offering, but there is no fee as such. I probably will try the Y yoga when it fits my schedule as well.

Last evening the Weight Watchers Activity Adventures went cycling, and I thought I might go. But I ran yesterday morning and felt tired last night. Don't want to overdo it.

This evening my local SparkTeam is going out to eat. I'm going to eat very smart today so I can indulge a bit. I've got both kids today (5 yrs & 22 mo) and plan to get my strength training done here at home. As far as cardio goes, we'll probably take a stroller walk if it doesn't rain or dance or Walk Away the Pounds if it does. Going to be another good day!

Thanks for the info about the class. It's good to know. I'll talk to you about it at a later date. I love the way you schedule your exercise workouts. Like you, I plan my exercise out for the week and make it a priority. You are doing such a great job with all of your marathon training!

Unexpected Yoga

Wednesday, August 01, 2012

Here's the picture that got my attention:

I had planned a gentle walk for my exercise Tuesday, but my Living, Losing, and Loving It group was going to yoga. Can't say we quite looked like that picture, but we did 75 minutes of yoga. There were 27 people in the class, including these 7 from the LL&LI Weight Watchers Activity Adventures. Also pictured, second from left on the bottom, is the teacher, Michelle.

I knew the child pose stretch is a yoga move, but was surprised to find out that bridges, an exercise I learned through SparkPeople, is also a yoga pose. Even though I'd never done a yoga class before it did not seem as foreign as I thought it would. I was warned I'd be sore today, but don't think I am.

Think I'll lace up my shoes and jump on my at-home treadmill this morning before the kids come. I suspect Gwen is probably still too sniffly to go to the Y nursery. I best get on it! Have a healthy, happy day, SparkFriends!!

Running and Wellness

Monday, July 30, 2012

Found this poster on my FaceBook "Living, Losing, and Loving It" group. I think it is worth sharing:

Gwen's got the sniffles, so I didn't take her to the Y nursery today. I'm going to get my training run in today after her dad picks her up. That reminds me. For those who've been following my blogs for a while, you may remember it seemed like I just kept a cold last summer. I missed a 5K due to illness and had to miss quite a few training runs. I had a terrible cough that hung on and on. Well, this summer my daughter had a lingering cough, my hubby has had colds, both Gwen and Natalie have gotten over colds, but (fingers crossed and knocking on wood) I have been healthy.

It may be that starting to run last year challenged my immunities and made me vulnerable and now that I'm conditioned it isn't a problem. Or it may just be that last year I was unlucky. Probably won't ever really know, but today I celebrate wellness!!

Love the photo caption! You were very unlucky last year. But yes, you are more vulnerable to getting ill if you have run yourself down. I might add, eating the right things helps too -lots of vit C is thought to help shorten a cold if you do get one. The proper nourishment to keep your body running at top effeciency so your exercise can pay off for you. It all works together. I have no idea why I never get colds, but even when I had unhealthy habits, I still ate lots of fruits and veggies. Proper fuel and fitness hopefully increases your odds of not getting sick! So glad you have avoided it so far!
Thanks for the goodie! Probably wouldn't mind a dietition to let me know the best things to eat to maximize my energy for my condition :)
