Everything is Fine

Friday, May 11, 2012

So glad my son-in-law will be okay. Since his car wreck on Wednesday, he can't drive and doesn't have a car to drive anyway. Now he can be alone, but yesterday and the day before he wasn't suppose to, so I got to see a lot of him. I've spent more time at DD's & his house, since he can't bring me the kids. Getting along with one less car for the family may make it harder for me to get to the gym, but thanks to SP I have a great new strength training workout I like and can do at home. Getting in the cardio at home is not a problem. I even have a treadmill here if I need it. So I can give my family the support they need without abandoning my needs and goals. Life is good. Again, we are all grateful that DSIL will be just fine soon.

Glad your son in law is on the mend... sorry for the "side trip" with the car being "out", but oh, so much better than what might have been!

Love being able to work out at home, and Spark makes that easy!

Always Something to Celebrate in Spark Land!!

Wednesday, May 09, 2012

Just earned level 19 with 80,000+ SparkPoints. At times I have even commented that the points seem kind of pointless, but it is good to have them to give goodies and just to have positive things to celebrate. Thanks, SparkPeople.

Had a great stroller-pushing walk at Banana Lake Park this morning. Gwen and I both enjoyed it and I appreciate that it earned me 7 SparkPoints. Plan to get more cardio this afternoon. Loving the healthy lifestyle and glad to earn acknowlegement through SP.

New Percentage

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Today, after I answered the 3 SP trivia questions as usual, I read something I have never read before, "you have answered 2409 of 2690 questions correctly, 90% correct". It had been at 89% for probably more than a year.

Admittedly, sometimes I get the same questions. Occasionally I even miss one I've had before and then I don't feel so smart then.

But overall I'm glad I play Trivia. I've learned a few things, even applied some of them, and enjoyed watching that percentage climb!! -Marsha

Well done for reaching the 90% average mark!! I love playing trivia and have seen many questions the same -and even worse have gotten the same question wrong many times! Sometimes, I just can't get it through my thixk head. I have the most trouble remembering numbers. Just doesn't mean anything to me how many people did what in what study so it just doesn't go in the memory banks. Also, I really struggle with strength training questions for what ever reason.. I have done much better lately though and averaged 95% on my last two months. My overall average is 90% right now, something I also just recently made.
Keep up the great work!

Guilty Motivations

Monday, May 07, 2012

I do find the positive advantages of living a healthy, fit life more motivating than avoiding the trials and tribulations of obesity. However, just over a week ago I had the chance to see and interact with many relatives I don't see on a regular basis. It was really sad to see so many people whose lives are limited due to obesity. It makes me feel extra blessed that I finally found what works for me. And I might as well use the negative motivation (sure don't want to end up like that, etc, etc.) for my own good. I've heard about guilty pleasures. I guess I'll call this my guilty motivations.

You really do become more aware of obesity when you've been there and done that. Here's to many more years of healthy living for you Marsha!

This took courage to write - I watched my older sister last week using a walker and still struggling to be mobile. she needs surgery but is too great a risk so the doctors won't do it. She can't do any of the fun things she wants and even taking her out to lunch is an ordeal. That is not for me! I'll track food forever if it is what helps me to lose so I don't get to that point.

Yes, family and friends. Most of the friends I'm doing things with now are in their 50's. Have already lost too many that should be my age and the remainder "doing something" usually means going out to eat or possibly a movie. Not how I want to spend my time. The negative motivates me too Marsha. I don't want to lose mobility or independence; I've already spent to much time in nursing homes visiting others. Even the best are not how I want to live.

Like you I try not to be self-righteous but I'll take my (private) motivations wherever I can find them. And yeah: the obesity gene runs in my family too. I'm just not permitting it any foothold back in my own life!!

ONEKIDSMOM 5/7/2012 5:45PM

I understand. It was a huge leap for me from having such compassion for others that I wouldn't grab success for myself, because I didn't want them to be jealous. I know, twisted, unhealthy self-image... and we could psychoanalyze it, but what would be the point?

I hope to always keep the motivation before me that I don't want to go back there. It's a helpless, imprisoned state... and in my case, mostly self-imposed. It's in our hands to be as healthy as we can... let's use whatever motivation presents itself to do so!

I am right there with you. When I see my sister-in-law trapped in a viscious circle with her obsesity -pre diabetic, high blood pressure, thyroid, depression, painful hip and knee preventing her from wanting to exercise, family who loves McD's and fried and processed foods, that is extremely motivating to not go down that road...She wants to improve herself but has too many factors against her :( My brother is obese too, but fortunately suffers no health problems yet as he does heavy lifting in his job so gets some exercise.
May you be a shining, motivating example to your relatives that it CAN be done!

Not Too Sore

Sunday, May 06, 2012

Glad to report I'm not too sore from the new workout I started yesterday. I really have to bend and stretch to even find any soreness. I did 7 of the 8 Intermediate Runners Workout exercises, but I swapped the Back Extension on the Ball for Back Extension on the floor. I suspect that a couple months ago I strained my back when I did back extension on the ball, so I'll do the beginner version of that one until I feel stronger and more confident.

I'm enjoying this break from running, but getting my cardio in with walking and low impact aerobics. I don't sit much during the day either as I'm an active caregiver for my two grandkids. And I am trying to step up my housekeeping a bit, too.

Yes, I am enjoying the running break, but also looking forward to the half marathon training I've committed to start on June 9th. I think running with a group will be a hoot! Time will tell.
