How Often Do You Change Your Weight Ticker?

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

My weight tracker is currently sitting at 126.8, however, I know it is time to change it. This morning I was 128.2. That is still within my happy goal range of 124-129, but I was hoping to get to the bottom of that range. I always find it hard to maintain when my exercise is limited. I find myself both more hungry and burning fewer calories.

I figure that it is legit to claim the lowest weigh in within the last week. After that I kind of feel like it is cheating to claim a lower weight. How do you do it?

I try to weigh-in every week on Friday, but I've been out of the loop again... so it is DEFINITELY time to start being honest with myself and the scale!

I weigh myself on Wednesday mornings - and change my ticker if it is lower than it is currently. I agree with you - a weight range of two to three lbs is a good frame for a goal.

I don't bother with it at all. I am just happy to be in my range and won't stress over any ups or downs as long as I am satisfied I am living my healthy lifestyle correctly..

OK, I'm convicted! My ticker has been low for quite awhile, but I've been working to get it back to where the ticker says I am...well I am changing it tonight, then if I loose the weight, I change it back. Well I saw your post it made me feel kind of guilty. emoticon

well, I'm with you...I'm about 3 pounds heavier (yesterday) thank I show on my ticker. Sometimes I just can't bear to have the weight reflected at what I am...I gained one pound from Halloween to New Year's Day and I recorded it. Then I changed EVERYTHING about my exercise (tons more) and my food (not enough) and I gained 6 pounds in about 12 days...and I have worked SO HARD, I can't bear to see it on the I just put it on hold and do the next right thing. Thanks for asking this in a blog, I feel a little like I've been to confession, and I'm not Catholic. Thanks.

My weight's been stuck at the 142 (on my tracker) for quite a few weeks now. Don't like it . . . wanna see the middle 3 again . . . . but it's accurate!!

I weigh myself every morning, and I change my weight ticker daily. Sometimes I'll forget to enter a weight, but I'll remember the next day.

I find that by entering the weight each day, it makes it real for me on SP. I have today's weight on the ticker, matching what I saw on the scale. Up, down, sideways . . . doesn't matter. What matters is being honest with myself about where it is.

In 20-20 hindsight, I think I never got any of the Lost X Pounds awards because I enter my weight so frequently that SP never sees a big enough change to generate the award. That's okay; I need to see today's weight worse than I need a popup telling me I lost 5 pounds.

I weigh on the first of the month at the gym; sometimes add in a mid month weigh in. Any time I weigh, I change the ticker. Don't own or want to own a scale. In the past I was too compulsive with it and it never made me feel good!

I usually keep up with the Spark Lifestyle check-ups (2 weeks between), weigh in at the gym on their big scale, and use that as my "official" weight. I weigh most mornings at home on mymlittle digital scale and I react if I see an upward trend over several days.

I update about once a week. I usually pick an actual weight... Saturday or Sunday's, depending on the week... if I didn't update Saturday, update Sunday. If nothing's changed, nothing's changed.

I mostly forget it - I weigh daily and record in a pocket notebook that I have been keeping (versions of) for the last 50 years. When I think about it I record on line - I'm probably overdue.

to to do when my weight is tracking downward
than when it is up. LOL emoticon

Good question, I do not change it as long as it is just water weight fluctuation each day. As long as I am back down to my lowest weight by the weekend. For me, Saturday and Sunday seem to be when my weight returns to the lowest number. I also save the weigh-in history on my digital scale so I can compare.

Honey Gold Potatoes

Monday, January 23, 2012

Hey, I found something new at the grocery store. (My hubby does almost all the grocery shopping, but I was needing some cold medication and the grocery store is much closer to my house than the drug store.) What I found was a small bag marked $3.99 that I probably would have passed up, but it was "buy one, get one free." So I thought, why not try something new. Honey Gold Potatoes are very small, but delicious and no trouble to fix. I just boiled them up. Everyone liked them. A serving size is 5 potatoes for 90 calories. I thought they were well worth it!

I have never heard of them, were they similar to Yukon gold, only smaller? What I find really cool is the small mixed bag of potatoes -everything from those amazing purple ones to the red ones, very colorful :) Glad you enjoyed them!! 5 potatoes for only 90 calories? They must be very tiny!

Sounds delish: haven't seen them here! We do get mini potatoes (yellow Yukon Gold, red skin and even blue types) . . .but haven't seen "Honey Golds"

I like to slice potatoes thinly, spray with a little Pam olive oil, sprinkle with rosemary and bake at 450: "oven chips". Mmmmm.

Irrational Happiness

Saturday, January 21, 2012

Yesterday my head cold was pretty bad. And I could feel my backache every time I took a deep breath. And then my car would not start. Bummer, bummer, bummer. You might think I would be feeling down, but there was this irrational happiness -- related to nothing in particular-- that just kept creeping into my thoughts and dominating my feelings and would not go away. At times I feel blah or let down or low energy I have to talk myself positive. But this happiness I'll just accept as a gift!

That's neat. The only time I ever had irrational happiness was for the first three years after I retired. I ould get recurring bouts of euphoria, but I finally got used to not having to go to work.

Good Comes From Not So Good

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

Gwen will be fine, but she's a bit under the weather this morning. So, she can't go to the YMCA this morning. I went to her house this morn (her dad or mom usually drops her off) so she could wake up naturally. She'd been up in the middle of the night and needed to sleep in.

The good thing was as I pulled into my driveway on my return I met a woman, Bridget, who I had talked to before running in the neighborhood. She did a Disney half marathon last Saturday when I did my 10K. We had talked about running together sometime. I told her about the 20 mile bike ride on Saturday and she is interested in going, too. I'm excited about having a fitness buddy right in my neighborhood. Maybe I can introduce her to SparkPeople, too!

I'm planning to get a workout in this eve, but don't hold me to it. I am cooking for extended family tonight and my back is not 100%. So I might take a day of rest and figure out how to get the workout in tomorrow. Want to do some speed work in preparation for the 5K on Feb 3rd, but don't want to overdo it. We'll see.

What a special grandmother you are, going out of your way to make sure Gwen gets her rest!!
That is fantastic you found someone in your neighborhood you can possibly enjoy future runs with. You don't mention age, is she close to you in age?
Perhaps you need to see a physiotherapist for your back. At the very least they will give you strengthening exercises for it, treatment if necessary and the best, stretches that will release the pain -I do them regularly although with the hip replacement I wasn't able to perform them because of dislocation risk. I will be asking my physio if its safe to do them yet or if she can give me any alternatives.
Take care of yourself!

    What a nice happenstance!

My local newspaper mentioned yesterday that low back pain in runners can be correlated to need for strength-training of the glutes . . . don't know if that makes any sense to you.

I do know that when I was doing a lot of running, I neglected my ST and abs/core stuff: because of course I preferred to run!!

Anyhow, in case you're interested, here's the link:

Preparation is Key

Sunday, January 15, 2012

This morning I rode a half hour on my bicycle and went about 6 miles. My SparkFriend EILEENV3 invited me to a 20 mile bike ride this Saturday and I plan to go. Thought I might want to practice a couple times this week. Also, want to make sure I find out what the weather will be and be properly prepared.

I'm not sore today after my 10K yesterday and not tired after a good night's sleep either. I realize, though, that I was prepared to run 6.2 miles. My training primarily on the treadmill was quite adequate for the distance. It was not, however, adequate for the weather. I run on the treadmill primarily because my granddaughter can go to the nursery at the YMCA. When I did run outside I avoided cool mornings. I'd wait for it to get pleasant. I live in central Florida. Yesterday was the second coldest morning of this year. If I'm going to race in cold weather, I need to get proper clothing and quit avoiding chilly weather training runs.

I saw you training for your run and you did a great job. You can never really know what the weather is going to be like, even with a weather report. I like the fact that you're going for a bike ride next weekend. The change up in activity will do you good and you'll work your muscles a different way. Kudos to you for all of the planning you do in advance!

Good for you not wanting the weather stop you from getting out and just getting it done! Too many use that as an excuse. At least you don't have icy sidewalks and blowing snow to contend with! Just dressing properly is the key. Our joggers here go year round. They dress in layers, so as they warm up the can peel off some as needed. But I have seen them wearing nothing but spandex and a touque and gloves, looked too strange!!
So glad you weren't sore after the run -good news for being able to enjoy that bike ride!!
