Little Luxuries

Wednesday, September 07, 2011

Some little indulgences really add a lot to life!! One of mine is having a variety of shampoo and matching fragrance conditioners to choose from each day. I enjoy soothing lavendar lots of days, but sometimes prefer an energizing citrus. I have green apple fragrance and my newest may end up being my favorite, mango-melon. Since I shower two or even more times a day due to workouts, these little luxuries make for a nice workout reward. The bottles look pretty sitting on the window sill in the shower, too!

That would be nice! Glad you are treating yourself! I trust you have good lotions to prevent your skin drying out from so many showers! As my bridge club has gone unscented, I have to make sure nothing I use has a fragrance..

Matching shampoo and conditioner in a variety of choices: what a nice idea.I'm highly motivated by small treats like that too: even a fresh bar of soap for my shower at the gym!

And: no calories either!! We need more luxuries like these!

I also love a nice smelling body lotion for when you are finished working out for the day. I use a delicious smelling one that is a smoothing shampoo and conditioner. Every once in a while I'll catch a whiff of it on my way into the showers at the gym and I wonder who smells so good and then I realize it's my own shampoo. How embarrassing is that?

Shampoo is put so close to our noses - I always smell them before I purchase!

I love coconut!

One of my little "pleasures" is lavendar scented epsom salts to soak my body or feet in at the end of a long day! Isn't it nice that such little things can truly be so enjoyable!

What a nice thing to do for yourself. I just may have to copy you on that one.

Zumbathon Today!

Monday, September 05, 2011

As promised in my status message today, I went to the YMCA and not only checked out, but participated in, the Zumbathon. For two hours, with only a few second's break here and there, we Zumba'ed. We had 150 dancers/exercisers in the gym along with 6 Zumba instructors. One instructor was on the stage and the others either followed along up front or circulated among the group offering encouragement and tips for form improvement. They provided water, towels, and bananas. The music was loud and invigorating. The ages of the participants varied from 4 to 80+. There was an area for kids to color and play when they got tired. Three quarters of the adults lasted all 2 hours.

It raised money for the Livestrong program affiliated with Lance Armstrong's foundation. Our Y provides a 12 week individualized exercise program for cancer survivors. It was a great morning and definitely a good cause!

If You Want to See ...

Sunday, September 04, 2011

If you want to see my 5K race finish picture from yesterday, you'll need to click on the link below. In the picture I'm partially obscured by other racers, so I'm not going to buy the picture. It does show that my official time was 28:28. I feel really good about that!

WooHoo! Personal Best

Saturday, September 03, 2011

I ran the Faster with FitNiche 5K in 28 minutes and 32 seconds, I think. It might have been 33 or 34 seconds. It will be posted online tomorrow, so I'll know for sure. This time the finish line pictures are for sale; in my past races they were free. I'll probably buy one, depending on how good it is and how much it is. If I get it, I'll post it.

My niece ran, too, and for only training 4 weeks she did very good. She promised to keep working on it and to pass me eventually. And that will be fine. My sister was there and she took some pictures, so we'll see how they turn out.

I placed third in my age group and got a medal. The first place winner (see my blog, My Hero) was our local phenom, no surprise. She ran it in 23:04. The second place winner and I were elbow to elbow much of the race. She had more kick at the end than I did. But I definitely cannot be disappointed with a personal best.

New Experiences

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Today after my run at the gym I used a foam roller for the first time on my quads, hamstrings, and calves. I had watched a SP video on how to use it to prevent or reduce soreness. I think it helped.

I'm extra excited about my 5K on Saturday as my 25 year old niece is going to run it with me. That will make it extra fun! Wonder if her fiance will come to watch and support. That would be good, too. We'll see.

My family loves the foam roller. Even the boys use it after soccer training. I have definitely found it reduces soreness!

Good for you thinking of a different way to keep you stretched and loosened up after your runs!! I read about them on Sparks and it looked interesting in the video. That is great about your niece, you will have a workout buddy to keep up with and keep motivated! I hope the fiance does come and take photos too, a hint wouldn't hurt!
