On my three year anniversary here on Sparkpeople, I thought I would just take the time to check-in. First thanks to everyone who stopped by to wish me well, say HI, or leave goodies. Thanks, thanks, thanks.

To catch everyone up, I had a rough time after my shoulder surgery. Did PT, massage, etc. but still was in pain. went off to see an acupuncturist figuring... what could it hurt. Well, I found out that I had muscle trigger points up and down my shoulder and into my neck that were causing most of my pain. I am happy to say that even though I have not total range of motion, at least I am pretty much pain-free now. WOOHOO! I love my acupuncturist and I consider her a miracle worker. Now trying to get rid of the pain in my hip. It sucks to get old.

During all this I went back to my main way of dealing with pain and frustration.... eating. I was planning on asking my acupuncturist for help with this issue too since she is also a certified diabetes educator and nutritionist..... one stop shopping for me. When talking to her.... and I really don't know why but I asked her to help me with my "food addictions". I had never used that term before but I have always felt that for certain foods, I could never just eat one. Once started, it was a full out binge. She suggested I go to a food addicts group which I did starting in April.

This group is a 12-step type group that admits we are powerless over flour and sugar. I felt like I had arrived home.... for so long I have known that something was going on but just not sure what it was with my eating. Now I know and have an answer. I have been off flour and sugar since April and call my sponsor daily with my food plan for the next day. So far so good.... I found out it was not so hard after all to give up sugar and flour. I eat lots of fresh fruits, vegs, etc. so feel very healthy!



So that is what is happening in my life right now. Hope everyone is doing great out there in Sparkland!!!

surgeru went fine. bone spurs removed, bicep tendon moved. the surprise for the surgeon was finding adhesions. he removed those too and said i would be 100% improved ...woohoo.

right now the shoulder is feeling no pain.... total shoulder nerve block. it will wear off sometime early am tomorrow. then vocodine here i come.

feeling pretty good right now. grogginess is wearing off. will be sleeping in my laziboy tonight. lol

Surgery coming up

I am going in for surgery on on left shoulder this Wed. Just a rotator cuff cleanout, getting rid of bone spurs and moving the bicep tendor around so it does not rub anymore.

I will be reading your blogs and threads over the next few weeks but not sure how much typing will be going on.

Have a great upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

Lots of April 4ths to celebrate

Many good things have happened to me and my family on April 4th.

My DH and I were married on April 4, 1981. It was a beautiful spring day just as it is today!



One year later, here we are baptizing my DS:




I am sure that there were plenty of other great April 4ths. But the only other one I remember specifically was April 4, 2005. That is the day I started my current consulting gig.

SO today in honor of our 29th wedding anniversary and also it being Easter, DH and I celebrated at the church where we were married. What a blast to go back and relive those memories. Then I continued the walk down memory lane by looking at all the old photos. Maybe tonight we will check out some old movie film of the wild party at the house the next day.

Sad Family News ~ Need your Prayers

Last week we got a call from DH's brother that our SIL was in the hospital with chest pains. The doctors found that they were caused by blood clots and she was put on medication to help with that. She was in the hospital for a week while the doctors did tests to figure out why she had blood clots. DH talked with his brother today and SIL has colon cancer that has spread to three other places already. No other warning as far as we know so far. Tomorrow they will meet with the doctors for their recommendations on what to do and what the options are.

SO.... please remember this family in your prayers tonight.
