AM Excercise

Yesterday morning I got up early and went for a run! This was a big deal for two reasons: 1) I have a very hard time waking up early in the morning, 2) I have not jogged for a very long time (but it's something I'm trying to get back into.)

I felt so good after it that I woke up early again today and took my dog for a walk. Again, I felt great so I'm going to try and keep it up. Really I only have to wake up about 30 minutes early to do this since I naturally wake up around 6:30am anyway (or my dog wakes me up.) And now that the weather is finally warm there's even more encouragement for me to get up and be outside. And, there's nothing better than finishing the work day and knowing that I don't have to go to the gym because I already got my exercise for the day.

I know the key to me losing weight right now is exercising consistently. I eat pretty well but I don't exercise on a regular basis. If I can get into a routine and get outside most mornings a week I know it will make a difference and I will feel a thousand times better. I just have remind myself of this every morning now!

I just bought a food scale (finally! I've been needing/wanting one for ages now) and am starting to put it to use. As predicted, I have been underestimating my portion sizes for meat. I am quite familiar with the old, "One serving of meat is the size of a deck of cards" rule but I always had trouble visualizing and estimating accurately none the less. Or maybe since I didn't know for sure it was easy to underestimate and pretend I didn't know any better. Well now I have the scale and I will be more accountable for certain foods. Tonight, for example, I was making my lunch for tomorrow. I weighed my lunchmeat and learned that I was estimating only 2 ounces when really I've been having 3 or 4 everyday! That definitely makes a difference.

I'm very much looking forward to my continued use of the scale and I recommend it to everyone!

I am very excited today because in a a few weeks I will be going away with a group of girlfriends for the night to celebrate one of their birthday's. We are going to Foxwoods and it's going to be a blast! I have been a little down about a lack of a social life lately, so I am VERY much looking forward to this outing. I really need this to boost my mood and self-esteem, so I can't wait! This is in two and a half weeks from now and it will provide a little extra motivation until then so I feel great that night. Plus I need to save up on calories so I can enjoy the buffet :)

Yay! I finished by first 6 days of spark people and lost 3.5 pounds! I'm so excited and feel great. I have to disclaim this though by saying that I think I actually lost more like 1 pound, because last week I weighed myself one day after my initial weigh-in and I was already down 2.5, so my starting weight was definitely a little inflated by bloating and what not. Still though, I feel great and am very happy for myself. I am definitely headed in the right direction! A contributing factor I believe is that I only had one meal out this entire week, including this weekend. It's great that i was able to do that but I know it's not something I can keep up forever, so I do definitely need to learn how to eat out in restaurants and remain healthy. Usually I just say, "Oh well, I know I can't stick to my diet while eating out so I'm not going to worry about it." I know though that that's not a healthy attitude, so don't worry. This is something I am working on.

The other key area for me is not eating everything that my husband eats. I eat so much healthier when he is not here. He (bless his soul) makes dinner almost every night because he works from home and I work 45 minutes away. This is great, but usually means that I end up eating something unhealthy. He loves to make tatter tots... definitely not a diet friendly food! In general he thinks you always need a side and I disagree. Sides usually just add on extra calories that I don't think I need.

Lastly, portion control is another area for me, but I just bought a kitchen scale so I am very excited. I can finally stop estimating how many ounces of chicken, turkey, cheese, etc that I am eating. And I can tell you right now that I am pretty sure I have been under estimating all along.

Well, my dog is barking up a fit so I better go see what she's doing.

Ahh, it's the weekend. Today has been great so far too; I got a hair cut, got my eyebrows waxed (so badly needed) and a pedicure (also SO badly needed.) And, I got a manicure at work the other day so I am very content right now. I've also had nearly a week of eating very healthy so overall feeling good and improved over how I was last weekend. Last weekend I was feeling down after my whole family was in town. There's just too many people in my family to get noticed and I don't always feel very appreciated, even when I hosted everyone at my house on Saturday and made them dinner and have 3 people stay over for the whole weekend. That weekend was actually what inspired me to pick spark people back up. I needed a self confidence boost, plus I need to lose about 15 pounds anyway, so this is a great way to get feeling good again. Right now I'm the heaviest in the family which isn't a good feeling. Our next big family get together is at the end of May, and I am determined to look and feel better by then. I know I can do it.

    Just keep hanging in there and remember why you are doing this in the first place. Keep up your hard work.
