The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Today's confessional..... I've been slacking this week so far, emoticonno exercise what so ever. Just been in a mood, not really feeling to swift either, but that's not an excuse. Just kinda lost my workout mojo.

Well.... NO MORE, I made a deal with by SP buddy that Monday starts a new workout plan for both of us. We will both do a workout before we go to work in the mornings. When we get to work, we will email each other with what we did. I am really hoping this will be able to get me out of bed. I don't want to disappoint myself and I certainly don't want to disappoint my buddy. I'm counting on her and I know she is counting on me. We are each other's workout buddies from across the miles - I'm in Virginia and she's in Iowa. WOW, that's quite a distance, but....... we are doing this together.

emoticonHere's to accountability, workouts, and SP friends. We will do our best.

I can understand that "not wanting to workout blues". don't know why they it us but it is like a little devil sitting on our shoulders just waiting to whisper negatives to us and keep us from workingout, walking, etc. What a shame that we can't see the little devil and just knock him/her into the next millenium and get on with exercising!
Hope you have made your workouts everymornig!

Ya baby, you can do this! The buddy system is a great idea and it works; it's a great motivator by holding each other accountable. I love getting my run/workout done in the morning before work ~ I love to check the box! If I happen to work in some more fitness after work it's bonus! Morning workouts start the day off right and you will feel energized throughout the day. Don't feel bad about this week; you must have needed the break and on Monday you can get back to business!

emoticon what a good idea! It make me think of my sons idea. My son asked a friend if they would call and tell him to meet him at the gym for a couple of weeks.. Now they didn't have to come but he would always go as he didn't want to let them down. He said he would think of them going out in the cold, dark and me not showing up... You will get back in the groove. emoticon

Indeed, "here's to accountability, workouts and SP friends"! Isn't it the most amazing thing to have SP and access to motivating, caring people!

We ALL have days/weeks where we're a little "off" but we get through it and shake it off then pick up where we left off. Because we want to feel healthy and we want to feel good.

You go, girl! Here's to ya! emoticon

What is going on? I've been feeling blah this week, too. Really craving chocolate and carb type of stuff. And my exercise has gone down hill with all of my medical stuff right now. But I'm hoping to get back into this and plan better and be prepared. I think that being prepared is the big key to being successful, and sometimes life just gets in the way of all our plans.

5K Race Weekend

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

I ran the Dolphin Dash 5K on Saturday morning. It's a charity race held every year at my daughter's high school - nice fact to know that the school has raised over $30,000 in the past 8 years with this race, so it's always great to help out the school with their charity work.

Sis and I (pre-race)

Sis giving me a pre-race pep talk. Everything seemed to be going wrong - we had to wear crappy shoes because we didn't want to ruin our good running shoes in the mud, I lost the ear cover to my ear phones, so bare metal in the ear was definitely not good, I turned on my ipod and it had a low battery alert so I started to panic to think I wouldn't have my JLO and 80's running music with me, but thank heavens the battery held up. And I was feeling the pressure of really trying to beat my personal time goal. So the bossy sister stepped in and smacked me outta my hysteric panic (she didn't really slap me, but I bet she really wanted to, lol)

I finished 2 minutes slower than I wanted to, so I beat myself up about that for a while, but when they started announcing the racing results, I got really happy. I finished faster than most of the people half my age, so even though I didn’t make my time, I still did pretty good for an ole gal.

And here's the icing on my cake for the day emoticon

There were two teenage boys that were running in front of me, then I’d pass them, then they’d pass me, and the whole time they talking amongst themselves (I could hear them talking in hushed voices) saying “lets pass her, we can’t let an old lady beat us”. I was a little miffed about that, but at mile three they were a little ways behind me, so I turned around and said... “you’re not intimated by a little ole lady are ya” and I kicked it into overdrive. YEP, I beat those dudes, lol. That made my day. NEVER underestimate the old ladies - ha ha ha - and who you calling old?????

Spent the rest of the weekend painting my kitchen, ugghhhh, I’d rather get a butt whipping than paint, but it was long overdue. I chose citrus yellow, and dang it’s bright, but adds some light into the kitchen, it’s a HAPPY color.

Running training is taking a break until the Fall, only gonna run now 3 times a week, it’s getting too hot to run, so I need to get into something new, something exciting, something extreme, something to burn lots of calories, something to shake things up a bit. Hmmmmm, any suggestions??????

If you live near Virginia "Beach" how about swimming? Do you belong to a gym? I really liked Spinning and it's a great workout. I also like Zumba...but can't do that until I get my feet squared up. Great job on the run!! NOthing beats beating someone that thinks they are better than you. Can't wait to finish my kitchen...LONG overdue...a needed some "POW" so chose a deep red for the primary wall(used to be wallpaper with little green leaves and blueberries)...the boarder has a rod iron scroll with vines design so plan on getting a new hanging light over the kitchen table and bar that have the rod iron in them and put verticles blinds over window/door combo that leads onto the patio...only takes time and money..LOL.

Jedi Master's Weekend

Thursday, May 12, 2011

Last nights run wasn't too bad, but wasn't as good as I wanted it to be either. It was my last run before the race on Saturday, still dragging because of that pulled thigh muscle. So under advice from my SP buddies, I took it slower than usual, then had a nice long stretch follwed-up with some ice. Hopefully, it will be ok for a good race on Saturday, but either way I'm running my hardest. A Jedi's strength flows within him. I'm back to being the Jedi Master of my own destiny. There is no try, it's do or do not.

So excited that today is my Friday, woo hoo, a three day weekend. Starting my weekend off with dinner out with the DH and my grandson's baseball game tonight. It's a late game so I prob won't be home til 10:30ish, that's kinda late for us old ppl, it's way past my bedtime, but hoping for some great baseball action to keep things lively.

Tomorrow I will be an official beach bum. Then tomorrow evening it's a free country concert, air show and fireworks show, woo hoo for free- we are triple dating with some friends, it's been a while since DH and I have been out with other couples - will be nice for a change. I have to be vigilant though, lots of junk food vendors there. To quote the great Jedi Knight Obiwan "we must use caution".

Definitely gonna use the old Jedi mind trick to keep me away from a hot dog or a funnel cake. Not too worried though, the force is strong with me. (OK, enough of my corny Jedi stuff)

Saturday is the 5K race and that leaves the rest of Saturday to goof off or paint the kitchen - will probably chose goofing off over painting anyday, lol. Hoping to take the motorcycle out for a spin.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. May the Force be with you.

WARNING - Too cute for words

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Our baby kitty finally has a name.... Harley Sunshine

This pic is just too cute for words.

I had hubby take a pic of me in my new summer outfit, this is the first time I've ever worn a white skirt, I was too self conscious to wear one when I was larger, it shows too many of the bumps and giggles. So happy to be wearing age appropriate, flattering clothes. The top came from the jrs. department. I just thought this outfit felt and looked springy. My teenager calls is my "mom outfit" - I don't think it's too momish, do you?

Me, Run Track? Nah

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

No, Nope, No Thanks.

Last night Sis and I went to the school to run our race route that we will be doing this Saturday. It's a 5K and we did this particular race last year, so we are familiar with the route, but we wanted to check our time, etc. When we got there the gate was closed to where we wanted to run. Soooo.....

The track was open, and we only did four laps around (1 mile) and I was "over it" already. We did manage to do some great speed work, but I came to the realization that running on a track is definitely not for me - no, nope, not a chance.

Running track is like a hamster on a wheel, running fast in a circle to get to nowhere. I feel this way about the treadmill too, can't stand it. Running, and running, and running only to be running in circles.

I much prefer the scenic runs through the neighborhoods and we have some nice running trails along the major roads in our area, and we like those. But as for me being a track runner, I'll pass. I certainly have a new appreciation for those that do run track. To each, his own.

The bad part of the night: I think I pulled a muscle in my inner thigh, ouch and of course, it's right before the big race this weekend. Just my luck, perfect timing (HEAVY SARCASM). It's sabotage I tell you. I am going to ice it today and do some stretching. Anyone out there experienced inner thigh pain? Advice please and thanks.

Runnersworld.com has a great feature on their website for self-diagnosing injuries (at least having an idea of what it might be, and what might work to fix it). I run on the track once a week, with friends, and we are talking and laughing so much we don't really miss the scenery of our usual trail runs. As has been mentioned, tracks are way easier on the knees, as long as you switch up the direction you run. I am with you on treadmills though - I like to be outdoors, even in bad weather. Hope you heal quickly and that you have a great race.

I don't have any advice for your inner thigh muscle pull other than rest-ice-elevate-compress (r.i.c.e.) ~ works for me on knee, ankle and foot injuries; not sure on the thigh.

I am so with you regarding the track! A merry-go-round that's not so merry. Same reason the treadmill is excrusiating for me to do because I feel like I am getting absolutely no where! I need the change of scenery and music; not to mention the fresh air and sun when we are lucky to have it! Good luck with your 5k!!

I do track with my running group occasionally. Works for me cause I like variety - I get bored easily. Plus it's kinder to your legs than asphalt, where I do the majority of my running.

I would love to have a scenic route to run, though the treadmill is more convenient, I get to listen to my mp3 or even watch tv as I walk, jog, and run. I'm not sure how I like tracks, didn't care for it when I was in school. Hope your muscle is better before the run!

Awe - I hope you are not hurt. That's the last thing you need.
Well - I used to love track so I don't mind the circle thing but that was then and this is now - It's much better to have scenery huh?? LOL
Hope your day is good

I don't like tracks or treadmills either. When I asked others that seem to love it they say that they are in a groove or zone when they run it. Ok guess I just haven't ever focused on the internal. Wish I has some wisdom for you pain. emoticon

Sports Authority has a wrap for around your thigh that will help that pulled inner thight muscle. I pulled my groin back a few years ago playing softball and that's what I got. It really helped.

As far as the track, I couldn't do it the way Heaven does. Round and round and with no music!!!!???? Not I said the fly.
