Ooohhhmmm - Some like it H O T !!!

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Last night's yoga class was soooo fantastic and so worth the wait. I left there feeling like a wet noodle. Did some awesome stretching, which my legs so desparately needed.

I wore my new heart monitor to class, just wanted to see how many calories I burned. I checked google to see how many calories you burn doing yoga, everything I saw said approx. 3 calories per minute for Hatha, so I definitely wanted to put that to the test, sure enough, that is a pretty close guestimate, but I burned 264 calories.

I've been sticking with the warm yoga because I'm too chicken to go for the gusto and try the HOT, but I am going to try the HOT version on Sunday morning - if I can't take the heat, I'll just get outta the kitchen emoticon

We were joined by one our SP buddies, FOXROX last night. Too bad we couldn't talk during the session, so we will definitely have to arrange a time when us girls can get together and do what we do best - C H A T. Glad you came FOXROX.

Tonight it's P90X Kenpo and grocery shopping. Then, my busy three day weekend starts. Today is my Friday, woo hoo, can't wait for some warm weather, I feel a motorcycle ride coming on for tomorrow afternoon.

Tomorrow I get to go to school with my daughter, every year the PTA hosts a "bring your parent to school day". I went last year, but this year she's a Senior, which means I'm a Senior and this is our last mommy /daughter function of high school. emoticon I get to attend her orchestra class, government, and fashion class - yeah, all should be fun. She has been bragging to all her teachers and friends about how skinny her mom has gotten. Wow, I didn't know she bragged on me. I'm glad she's happy for me, but I'm also very modest and shy when people start to talk about MY weight loss. I don't feel like I've done anything so great, just an average gal working hard. So she says I have to wear something smoking hot. Now that's funny, what does a 40+ woman wear to school that's smoking hot that doesn't look like I'm trying to wear something smoking hot? and of course it has to be in-style. She's so worried about the fashion. I think I'll just stick to a pair of jeans and a tee, a classic mom look.

emoticonSaturday, free women's self defense class at the local running store. A police officer is going to instruct us lady runners on safety while running, etc. I always try to be very conscious of my surroundings when running, but hopefully this will put things in a different prospective and learn some new things to look out for (I'll share). I always love learning and trying new things and even better, it's FREE!!!! Then I promised my daughter a lunch at our fav Mexican restaurant. I haven't had Mexican food since prob Oct. 2010, WOW, I used to eat it all the time, but it doesn't really fit into a healthy lifestyle so much any more, so I will definitely have to move the tortilla chip bowl to the far end of the table so I won't be tempted. emoticon

Sunday, hot yoga class and then family dinner with a birthday celebration. Our granddaughter turns 12 today, so we are having cake on Sunday. Also going to try a new Paleo chicken enchilada recipe.

So a busy, fun weekend in the works. I will miss you all in the next three days, since you know I take a SP hiatus on weekends, but will be back on Monday, until then..... have a healthy, happy weekend.

How awesome to have your daughter bragging about how great her Mum is - that must have given you a bit of a big warm huggy thrill :)

Tried yoga years ago when I looked like my profile photo (!) and it was hard work - I think people underestimate how physically challenging it can be - good on you for going there!

Have a great day being a "senior" with your daughter. Mine's a freshman and I understand the emoticon!! Life's too fast. All of her compliments mean the most ~she does have a smokin' mom!

Your yoga and workouts are inspiring! Have a tremendous weekend.

Great glad you had a nice yoga class. I am so curious about the warm/hot yoga. I have to workout at home because any classes or gyms are about an hour away and it's just not feasible for me to go to them. Wonder if I could do hot yoga at home. I am going to check it out on the internet.
Anywho - have a wonderful fun filled weekend. SOUNDS VERY FULL.. It's nice you have a full life.
So that sounds really neat you get to go to school with your girl. Have a wonderful time. Oh yeah enjoy the mexican food for me I don't get to eat it very often either.
I was wondering about the calories burned on yoga and I was going to wear my heartrate monitor so I could check but forgot to put it on last night. I will have to make sure I do next yoga class.

I have p90x yoga tonight for the first time. I have gotten to walk a lot with my doggie this winter... and I'm prematurely thankful for it for those nasty 95 degree humid summer days when I won't even want to go out at night.

Cashing in the Stars

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Tonight I am cashing in my 20 earned gold stars for that special treat. Warm yoga for 90 minutes emoticon. We've earned more than 20 workout stars but just finally getting around to cashing them in.

Still working hard with the P90X and just finishing that 9 mile race this past weekend. I actually feel like I whipped the Plyo workout last night, instead of it whipping me, and.... since I got my new heart rate monitor, it showed that I burn about 90 more calories during that workout than I originally thought - so heck yeah, I whipped IT !!!!!!!

Definitely looking forward to a treat tonight, a treat for some weary muscles. Gonna get all warm and toasty, drippy in sweat and stretch, stretch, stretch, but my favorite part about yoga is the serene and peace that is found when practicing in that kind of environment - clearing my mind of everything. No phone ringing, no dog barking, no disturbances. And as an added bonus, I am meeting a fellow sparker there tonight for a little girlie time.

OOOOOOhhhhmmmmm emoticon emoticonOOOOOOhhhhmmmmm

Race Recap and Pics

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

This past Saturday, my Sis and I ran the VA is for Lovers 14K. We decided to go a little overboard with the Valentine outfits. I decorated my running jacket and head band with felt stick-on hearts - yep, just a tad overboard.
We had to strike a crazy pose, we can't be serious all the time.

Had about twenty minutes to kill once we got to race so we just took a few pics. My daughter was nice enough to get up early on her only day to sleep in to come watch ole mom, and of course, DH was there cheering and taking pics.

We started in Corral 3, which was the last one to start. And... we're off and running.

We ran at our usual 10 min mile pace, so we had plenty of time to read all the cute signs along the race course. There were two DJ's set up along the course, playing some tunes and cheering us on. In some spots it was still a little slippery with a few ice patches and the run through the amphitheater parking lot was muddy, but after that part of the course, the rest was smooth sailing.

We had planned to actually STOP and take a rest at all the water stops, but we were doing so well, we just grabbed a cup and kept on running. My dad always says... NEVER skip a water stop, even if you don't stop, grab it and drink it along the way, keep hydrated, so of course, I listened this time.

We were going to have a GU break around mile 5, but we were feeling so good, we ate our GU while running. After about 10 minutes started feeling a little more peppy. After I saw the mile 6 marker I knew we were gonna make it, we were still going strong.

Mile 7 we were treated to a cup with about 5 mini M&M's in it - oooh yeah, I run for chocolate. Between Mile 7 and 8 I started getting really anxious, wanting to be done. Rounded the corner and saw mile 8, almost there.
We thought the finish line was where we started out, so we turned the corner and turned up the heat, we were going to do the last few meters fast, really fast, and lo and behold, we turned the corner running full speed, and NO finish line, oh gosh, we had to run about three more blocks to finish INSIDE the building. So we kept full steam ahead and busted through the door running full speed to cross the finish line. I looked at the time clock and I knew we were finishing 8 minutes ahead of what we had originally set our minds to, and both of us finished at the exact same time 1:37:19, crossing the finish line together. I got quite choked up after I crossed the finish line - the feeling was pure ELATION, I had a big ole knot in my throat holding back tears. I thought to myself, why am I so emotional. It's because I had erased all the CANT's from my mind, I had done it, just like I said I would and I did better than I've ever done before and most importantly I was DONE. Looked pretty ragged after race, but very happy.

Mission accomplished, now on to a half-marathon. I can do anything I set my mind to and I'm gonna !!!!!

Pre-Race Jitters with a side of Coconut Milk

Friday, February 11, 2011

I have to stop tonight on my way home from work to pick up race packet, I got a cool bid number: 2222
I've got a SEVERE case of the PRE-RACE JITTERS. I always get nervous the day before race day. I worry about what to eat for dinner tonight and breakfast tomorrow, what time to get up, how I should dress, am I gonna have a good running day, is my ipod charged? Sheesh, all these things whirling around in my head. So I'm making a checklist now.....

Food: Dinner tonight - chicken, breakfast on race day - protein shake with banana

Wake up time: 5:30, we don't have to leave for race until 8:00, but that gives me plenty of time to get wide awake, have breakfast, allow for contingencies

Dress: Going all out with the Valentine theme - a new pink hoodie, boxer shorts with red lips all over them to wear overtop my running pants with my name on the back, socks that have hershey kisses and hearts on them and a festive red hair ribbon. YEAH, I go a tad overboard for theme races. Please do not call the fashion police.

Good Running Day: Weather is going to be great and I will do my very BEST. We have a strategy in mind, so hopefully it will all work out. Heck, i just want to finish this race, I've never run more than 7.5 miles, so this is gonna be a challenge.

Music: Ipod is fully charged and I created a new playlist - gotta have some motivational tunes to keep myself occupied for 9 miles.

Yes, I over analyze things, I'm nit picky at times, a little OCD, neurotic, etc. Oh well, that's just ME being ME !!

I tried coconut milk for the first time this morning, not too bad, but definitely something I'm going to have to get used to. I mixed if with my protein powder and some fruit to make a breakfast shake. I'm all about trying new things.

Two new things: 9 miles and coconut milk.
