All Aboard the Train to 140-Ville

Thursday, February 10, 2011

It's official, I am officially onboard the 140-ville train. I left 150-ville for good. I can't describe how awesome it feels to see ONE FOUR NINE on the scale. Only three pounds from goal of 100. It's so close I can see it. emoticon

emoticonLast night Sis and I did a pre-race run, we wanted to get in a long run before Saturday's race and have a day or so recovery in between. We ended up doing 7.5 miles last night and feeling great this morning. So we are as ready as we will ever be to run the VA is for Lovers 14K on Saturday, I'm sure we will finish it STRONG.

Woke up to two inches of SNOW on the ground this morning - ICK !!!!! This has been the freakiest weather I've ever seen. Yesterday was high 50, today 30 and two inches of snow, tomorrow chilly, but on Saturday gonna be mid 50's - perfect race weather, and Sunday 60's - gonna break out the motorcycle, heck yeah.

Kids have a snow day today, soooo lucky, just for today I wish I was a school teacher so I could have a day off too, but..... I'm at work, we're really busy so hopefully the day will fly by. My Sis is off today too, she was mopping kitchen floor at 6:00 a.m. when I left, that girl just rolls outta bed and starts doing something. You can never say she's ever idle- dang woman, what happened to sleeping late and making waffles around noon, lol. Looking forward to seeing a sparkling clean house and a scrumptious dinner when I get home. Thanks NeeCee, you take good care of me. Now if you could only make me get up in the mornings.

DIVA Night

Wednesday, February 09, 2011

Last night I attended DIVA Night at our local running store, Running, Etc. It was a women only night, yeah - they served wine and had lots of veggies, fruit and cheese trays. I got a free chair massage, I got stretched by a sports therapist, got fitted for a sports bra and all ladies were treated to a 25% off everything sale. Well..... I didn't buy a darn thing. The only thing I was interested in was a pair of compression pants, however they were way out of my price range $115. For that price, they should be able to run for me, lol.

I also arranged to meet a fellow SPARKER there last night, ANITAGOODBODY. She is such a sweet lady and she had brought a couple of her SPARK friends with her (sorry the names slipped my mind). It was great to meet so many other runners. ANITAGOODBODY was kind enough to share her running tips with me, she has run several half-marathons and I was sooooo excited to hear all her stories. Its was my pleasure to meet such a super lady. She will also be running the 14K race this weekend, so I will look for her there.

They had a special sports bra fitting last night too. GR8CGRM got a really nice one, I decided to skip it since I really wanted to save the money and get my daughter a new one, so we will be going back there sometime soon.

Also discoverd a magic item... chaffing gel, its like a stick deodorant, you rub it on and it prevents chaffing - miracle stuff.

All in all, it was a great night of ladies fellowship, I got to meet some new friends. And to my surprise..... the average age of all the women in attendance last night was my age or a tad older. So nice to be in company with such awesome lady runners.

Way to go Running, Etc., will definitely attend any of your sponsored events, had fun.

WOW how awesome & fun. Glad you had a nice time and with no cost. That is always a plus. A fitted sports bra would be great for me about now. I am well in dowd and have the cheap kinds that give you a uniboob..LOL.... But I am too cheap to buy the ones that would take care of that for me.

I agree, at $115 they should be able to run for you. For a sport that requires no money for special equipment except shoes, it certainly costs a lot. ;-)

Super Weekend, but not a Super Bowl

Monday, February 07, 2011

It was a great weekend. I got great news, I'm going to be a grandma. My son and his girlfriend are having a baby - so happy for them. I am excited to be a first time grandma, but I hardly feel like a grandma, so the baby will call me Mimi, they are thinking baby is due first of October. She's going to doc sometime this week.

Sunday was DH birthday, I made him a pineapple upside down cake. It was my first time making it and it turned out great, thanks to my mother-in-laws excellent instructions.

We had family and friends over to watch the Superbowl. For all you PACKERS fans I am sure it was a great game, but as for us Steelers fans, well.... They just plain ole didn't deserve to win, we didn't play like a super bowl team. However, we still have the Steeler pride and we had a great weekend anticipating the game. Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend and is off to a great start to a new week.

DH and I on Superbowl Sunday - sporting our jerseys - it was also DH bday - how cool is it for your bday to fall on Superbowl - well, only if your team wins, lol.

Better luck next year Steelers, and congrats to all the PACK fans out there (Jolie and Teresa), love yall anyway, hahaha.

Girl, you look hot in your jersey -- a great present to DH! Finally tracked down your magazine -- you are also such an inspiration! Way to spread the spark!

I cut my left ring finger pretty severely on a can I'd just opened this weekend, while home alone in the middle of a sleet storm. It is a literal pain, and while it still hurts like the dickens if I bump it accidentally, it's already a tiny bit better. This one will definitely take a while to heal.

Thanks for the comment on my blog...and I enjoyed yours, too! We lived in Pittsburgh for many years, then Milwaukee, now Chicago...but my grandkids live in Milwaukee, so I had to root for the Pack! CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming grandbaby...there is nothing sweeter in the world (not even a Steeler Super Bowl win, lol). emoticon

And I'm bummed about the game too. I'm a fan of the Bears and anyone that beats the packers, so I was rooting for Pittsburgh :)

Since my parents were both from Pittsburgh (and my oldest sister was born there), if I actually had an interest in football I would have been rooting for the Steelers.
YAY for being a grandma! And such a young and slim one at that.

As for Steelers losing the game - can't say I was rooting for them and they threw their own win away. Can't say I've ever seen Ben throw so many interceptions in a game. Happy for Aaron Rogers - he has a pretty awesome story and maybe he can now step out of Farve's shadow. Of course wish it was my Falcons .......maybe next year.

We Were Flyin

Thursday, February 03, 2011

emoticonLast night Sis and I decided we would go for a quick run before dinner, nothing too long, just a quick run to enjoy the gorgeous 70 degree, one day heat wave.

We started out with a 1/2 mile warm up and the wind was blowing so hard, so we decided to run a route that we wouldn't be running into the wind, well, it didn't quite turn out that way. We ended up running almost the whole way INTO the wind. It felt like we were running at what we thought was a great pace, but we were struggling into the wind. It's like we were running directly into a Category 2 hurricane and standing still. Seemed like we were running forever and getting absolutely nowhere.

Well, we just sucked it up and kept going, then towards the end of the run we decided to pick up the pace a bit - we were both wanting to be done just to get out of the wind. So we hurried the pace and lo and behold.... when I stopped the timer, emoticonwe had run 5 miles in 48 minutes - sheesh, we were flying. emoticon I know that might not be great time for some runners, but for us it was a PR, we're getting better and faster. emoticon

What a great pace we were running, we both maintained, we both were comfortable. So last night's windy run turned into a little motivation boost for us both.... we CAN pick up the pace, YES WE CAN and we did. We were both feeling pretty great after that run.

Don't you always feel on top of the world and super energized after a great run? I LOVE THAT FEELING, there's nothing quite like it. Can't wait to run again tomorrow, but it's gonna be chilly, hopefully the wind will be non-existent.

ABC's Extreme Home Makeover

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

ABC Extreme Home Makeover is in Virginia Beach this week, it's actually right around the corner from my office (less than 1/2 mile), going to go by there today at lunchtime to check out the progress and take some pics. I thought to myself, how nice to have our community featured on national tv and how wonderful that a local deserving family was getting what they needed.

My daughter told me that one of the girl's in the family that is getting the new house goes to her high school. Then......

Hubby came home from work on Friday and said his company was helping with the plumbing work at the homemakeover house. I was so excited. My DH worked at the house last night all night installating water lines, this was after he had already worked a full 8 hours during the day - he put in 7 more hours after that for the home makeover house. So happy he had the opportunity to participate in something so wonderful. He's such a sweet man and always gives to others. My hero. Good job hubby for putting your personal touch on a wonderful cause, no contribution is too small. You make us proud, as always.

So since he worked there last night, he's invited to the "move that bus" ceremony on Saturday - WOW, how excited I am for him. He was thinking of me last night while he was working and brought me a tee-shirt home, always thinking of others instead of himself, again... My hero !!!!

I would have never thought that having the TV show in our area would personally touch our lives, how cool is that? Be sure to watch it on tv, I think it airs Feb. 13th, but not totally sure of that date.

Thats awsome. They did a house about an hour from my house a little over a year ago. My uncle worked for the Home Builders in charge. I got to go over a few times and view the house. It was over the summer and about 90 out and I felt so sorry for all the workers. We got invited to the "move the bus" to and it was awsome. Good for your hubby and helping out a family.
