Donut Desire

Last night we attended my daughter's holiday violin concert, WOW, very impressive for high schoolers, they performed a Masterworks concert called MAGNIFICANT. I enjoyed the performance very much, so a nice evening thus far.

Hubby, myself and my sis left the concert and DH pulls into 7-11, I can't imagine why he would stop there, but I sat in the car while he went inside. I was watching him from the car, he was standing in front of the donut case, staring into it, in deep thought, trying to make his selection. emoticon

I was sitting in the car saying to myself... "oh no he isn't gonna get a donut" - "oh no, he didn't just buy that donut" - well guess what? He had three donuts in the bag. Holy ham, he just didn't know how bad I would have loved to eat that donut, but I was fighting against the strongest person I know... ME - I was fighting myself for a bite of that donut. Well, it was a long silent ride home with the aroma of donuts filling the car. emoticon

We got home and he preceeded to eat his donut, and I didn't dare ask for a bite, cuz he knows darn well I didn't really want a bite or need a bite. But oh how I was struggling. He told me on his way to bed that there was one donut left, me and sis could split it. Sis and I both looked at each other - I could read her mind and she could read mine too....both of us were thinking about running to the kitchen for that donut. At the same time, both of us just stopped emoticon - We had a little something for that donut.... emoticon

We popped in the Kenpo P90X and did a round of kickboxing instead. Every punch and kick was dedicated to the donut. We took turns as we were punching and kicking calling out names and flavors of donuts.

BAM, take that you rasperry filled donut - POW, take that you choc eclair. We were doing some serious donut bashing. We were getting a little carried away with the donut name calling, then in the DVD, Tony says "no Krispy Kremes in the house" - we just died laughing. I totally forgot that he says that in the video, but how appropriate and timely was that.

We finished and just laughed at ourselves. We had taken our donut frustration out by punching through the cravings.

My wife had a 4th Meal craving the other night. She hates driving at night, can't see so well, so being the nice guy that I am, I made the run for her. Talk about fighting yourself... I was in my target calorie range for the day, so no more eating... I got only her steak soft taco supreme and pintos & cheese, and just had to sit there while driving it home, and she ate.

I didn't put the P90X videos in... I'll have to add that to my list.

But the Rec Center was great this morning!!!!

Mark Your Calendars - History was made Yesterday

Yesterday goes down in the history books, a red letter day in history....
This will definitely shock my momma, and this may come as quite a shock to my fellow sparkers emoticon I actually ate canned green peas - REALLY.

I have detested canned peas all my life, I love frozen peas, but ICKnay on the Easpay, I'm also quite fluent in pig latin emoticon

Last night hubby made dinner (thanks honey). We had boneless porkchops, twiced baked potatos, fresh italian bread and then he put a bowl of yucky green peas right next to me. I normally turn my nose up at peas, but last night I decided to try just a spoonful, and to my surprise, a spoonful turned into a 1/4 cup.

I can't believe it - I ATE CANNED PEAS, that's one for the record books, my momma will be so proud when I tell her.

    Canned peas, and canned almost anything make up a large portion of my hurricane kit... I do eat them.

I have to admit though, the most common use for frozen peas is as ice packs -- best thing around for conforming to bones and muscles (and, well, padding) that aches after a workout.

    LOL - FUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNYYYYY - I love peas anyway, anywhere, anyhow. Good job on trying them canned. They aren't as good as fresh or frozen but they'll do. In fact my husband only likes them canned - for some reason he hates frozen. WIERD but true.

    Good for you!!! Personally, I would rather have fresh or frozen ANYTHING over canned, but they can be eaten.
Keep trying different things. It can be fun and you might be surprised at some of the things you like.

Sheesh, where do I begin. I feel like so much is piled on to do and just not enough hours in the day. It's way too early in the month to be stressin. I just have to make a list and put things in priority order. Do what I can today, then just keep checking things off the list. The list is long. I just keep telling myself, one thing at a time, slow down, breathe, all things will fall into place.

It's all about priorities, hoping I can take my own advice and just do a little at the time.

How do my fellow SP buddies handle stress? I need a magic formula QUICK.

    I try to make a list in order of priority. It looks like you do the same.
I make sure I get some exercise in everyday because that really helps me with the stress and makes me more productive (today I didn't exercise this morning and I can tell because I'm having a harder time getting things done.. I will make sure to exercise this afternoon and do it tomorrow morning).

    Make sure you have reasonable goals and expectations of yourself. Does it ALL absolutely HAVE to be done? What can be let go of? Are you doing too much because of trying to please others or live up to others expectations, or because of genuine NEED to accomplish everything?

If you can't get everything done you thing you really should get done, then give yourself a break. Recruit help. Figure out alternatives.

This was the most challenging part of being disabled for me. It took a long time before I realized that I really couldn't live up to the expectations and standards I used to have. So, I made adjustments. My partner made adjustments, and pitched in a little more. And we simply learned to live with fewer expectations, because they are just no longer possible.

Breaking things down into smaller, bite-sized pieces helps, too. some days I have to set a timer--15 minutes of cleanup and 45 minutes of rest/read/computer time. Rinse. Repeat. As long as it takes to get it done. Or until I just can't push myself any more.

  I know what you mean - mine started in 1980 with going back to school plus a family plus a full time job and you know what?? I found out that 'it' doesn't let up until YOU decide you've had enough and YOU take control of your life -- Unless you can afford to pay people to take care of all of the things that need to get taken care of this is what my experience taught me:

1. Write down a realistic schedule and include down time for you to recharge (it's NOT a luxury - it prevents total burn-out!) sometimes it helps to think of time as money and make yourself budget time just as closely. I used to use a 15 minute Daytimer/planner for every day, even my days off since those are the days that I tended to 'dump' all of the extra things that my family or church or friends wanted me to do or participate in. I felt exhausted all the time.
2. Most important if you're going to do number 1--Refuse to buy into any guilty feelings when you say 'no'. Tell yourself that you can't possibly be all and do all and that you have to take care of yourself. If that doesn't help the feelings and the guilt is overwhelming look at their source (you may need professional help for that) since the origins of feeling guilty are usually based on non-realistic goals like trying to please others (family/friends/church/coworkers/bo
ss/etc), fear of rejection, or an unbalanced sense of 'duty' or a 'woman's role'. For me, I just kept reminding myself that I was doing the best that I could, I was only one person with 24 hours a day, I could not do it all and refused to beat myself up. I repeated that to myself whenever those self-judgments popped into my head (not doing enough, not being a good wife, mother, worker...whatever) It was those thoughts of beating myself up that was making me feel guilty.
3. I agree totally with stopping and taking a breath. I learned how to meditate, visualize, and do deep relaxation exercises
4. Take time to physically exercise, even if it's just a 30 minute walk everyday. This is known to reduce the stress related chemicals in our bodies.

5 - last but the most important of all - treat yourself the way you'd treat your best friend. Speak to yourself the way you'd speak to your best friend. Be compassionate and kind when you feel low. Be a cheerleader (no putting yourself down to motivate yourself) when you need encouragement. Always be patient.

    Well you lured me in with your (awesome?? annoying?? catchy??) title to this blog. Lol! Haven't had that tune in my head for quite some time.

I hear you on being busy and it doesn't seem it will eve really slow down. We buried my MIL after she passed away last Christmas Eve. The last thing I want to be is a downer, but....when I get like that I look back at that time and realize at the age of 60 what she was so worried about before she got sick and how absolutely none of it mattered as she laid there in her last day. I mean's changed how I live a little bit. We are always going to get hung up on the details and as a teacher I can't just say "Ah shoot....I'll just throw those papers out that need to be graded." There is a reality to what we have to get done, but occasionally I hit a spot where I realize what matters and it at least takes the edge off for a while.

Good luck with everything!! Especially the stuff you have no choice, but to get done!

    I take little breaks (cause I'm sure feeling the stress myself at the moment). 15 minutes to read a magazine. Half an hour of sparkin'. 5 minutes of meditation. And so on . . .

Just wanted to share some super news with all my buds. I have been selected to be in FIRST women's magazine, hitting the newstands on January 28, 2011. I will not be the feature story, just a small sidebar featuring a before and after pic and a few brief words about weight loss. I am so honored to have been selected for this opportunity, I am hoping they will give a shout out to SPARKPEOPLE, since that is how I have managed to accomplish my goals. I certainly mentioned SPARK, almost every other word during my interview - Yeah for SPARK !!!!!

They are providing a hair stylist, makeup artist and a personal stylist who will be bringing me clothes to wear during my 3 hour photo shoot. That's next sunday. I can't explain how excited I am.

I truly believe this opportunity is the "icing on the cake" for me. I've been working so hard and it finally seems like there is light at the end of the tunnel. This is just what I need to push me over the top to finally reach the 100-pound loss mark, only 4 to go.

When I read magazines and see someone's weight loss story, I am truly inspired that they can accomplish such great things. I am hoping someone sees my picture, and it offers them HOPE, that weight loss is achieveable and that it will inspire them. It's all about helping others and I truly believe that we all need to be in the mindset.... "If she can do it, so can I". It is possible guys... hard work, patience and perserverance. So happy that I've made it this far.

Keep on SPARKING yall, we can do this !!!!!!

    WOW, congratulations!!! YAY!!! That is so exciting! I was in Women's Day mag last year (also a small blurb with before/after) but I didn't get a photo shoot, stylists, etc. That is so cool. Great job. I know you will inspire millions. Can't wait to see you in the magazine. I don't usually read that one, but I will pick up that issue. :)

Turkey Trot

5K turkey trot in Burgettstown, PA - don't have official time but it was under 35 minutes. It was pouring down rain, 32 degrees and the hills were very steep. I don't know if the downhill or the uphill was the worst. I had fun anyway. Here's some pics. It was really weird running a race by myself, I always have my sis with me, but I'm sure I made her proud. I know I was proud just to manage the hills and IN THE Freezing RAIN.
