I've been seriously eating myself to death or so it seems. I have increased my workouts to 3500 calories per week, which is great, I'm feeling awesome. But with the added workouts, my calorie intake has increased dramatically. I was acustomed to eating a minimum of 1200 -1500 calories a day, now my minimum is 1700-2000, WOW, that's a lot more food.
It seems I am eating constantly, all day long, Do you know how many veggies snacks it takes to make 1700? ALOT. I am just soooo tired of eating all day long, I need to eat more at my meals but my stomach is just not that big, I don't like to eat til I'm miserably full. I'm eating all the right things (lots of fruits, veggies, lean meats) but I am sooo miserably stuffed and constantly shoveling it all in.
Anyone out there have this problem???? and what's the solution????

I've got a friend who is a runner and is naturally VERY thin. She's always trying to avoid losing weight and/or trying to put weight on. Her solution? Good fats from things like nut butters (coconut butter is AMAZING)and other foods that are calorie dense in comparison to portion size. She's a vegan, like I am, so eats a lot of low-calorie fresh veggie and fruits. Another good option is dried fruit. It's not as filling as fresh and the calories are more concentrated without it being a junky choice. Nuts, seeds, nut butters, coconut, dried fruit - all things I wish I could eat more of myself! LOL. A lot of calories in a little, nutrient dense, not overly bulky package. Report Inappropriate Comment |

Truly, it's just never a problem that I have. And remember that those are guidelines, so just watch what happens & see if it's really the right amount for you. Oh, and of course avocado is high in fat, but the good fat -- I'd eat a whole avocado easily if I could! Report Inappropriate Comment |

I sometimes have this problem. I don't force myself to eat if I am not hungry. I listen to my body-if I am hungry, I eat, and then I eat until I am full.

WOW that's a real dilemma, I can't say that I have that problem. I have increased my exercise to 2000 cal per week and I'm finding that some days I'm extremely hungry. I do agree with some of the others who suggest PB, healthy fats and other nuts, all are healthy high calorie options. However, they may over load your fat calories if you try to incorporate all of them. You are doing so awesome, you obviously are doing alot of things right!! Report Inappropriate Comment |

I usually mix up a protein shake - Whey Protein Isolate. With water, it's only about 100 calories and with skim milk, it's about 180 calories. It keeps me satisfied for awhile. I also do "intuitive eating" - basically, eat 'till you are "satisfied", but do not eat 'till you are "full". Of course, if you are losing pounds, I'd just keep on doing what you're doing. ;-) -Eric Report Inappropriate Comment |

Unfortunately, I don't have that problem. But as many have said, nuts are a good way to go.

Almonds are a favorite of mine -- lots of protien and healthy fat. They are higher in calories so that might help. Good luck!

Yep, the PB is a good idea. Also adding in healthier fats (like olive oil, nuts, or avocado) would bring that calorie count up.

Add peanut butter to your snacks. Melty PB and toast at night is soo good. Otherwise, I suggest snacking on trail mix or eating some red meat? That's usually higher in calories. You could get 2% cottage cheese and drink more milk, too. Report Inappropriate Comment |

Wow - Wish I had that problem. HMMMM Something to work for - A GOAL IT SEEMS. I say add higher calorie veggies into the mix like Avocado And of course there is always Peanut Butter and Nuts. Unless you already have those into the mix - Then I don't know. I would hate to say eat high calorie crappy stuff because that is out of the question. This is a good problem to have I think. Hee hee hee Oh by the way - I meant to say Congratulations yesterday for the Steelers win on Monday but forgot - So CONGRATS - way to go Steelers. Also did you pick up some hummus yesterday - Was wondering if you ended up eating any and if you liked it? Report Inappropriate Comment |

Well, what an interesting problem to have! I don't have any suggestions because I am a newbie who would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to have this problem! hmmm... I wouldn't know what to do if I had a hard time reaching my calorie intake for the day. Right now, I have a hard time not going WAY OVER the allotted daily calories! Report Inappropriate Comment |

Listen to your body. If it doesn't want all that food, then don't give it all that food. Also, you might want to try to work in a little bit of higher calorie, lower bulk foods to keep within your caloric range.
