The Evil Reese Cups

Why did someone leave the bowl of Halloween candy out on the table, in plain sight, so I could see those yummy, delicious, OMG to die for Reese cups emoticon emoticon

I walked past it several times and didn't snitch one. I was proud of myself, but then the unthinkable happened. I was up late last night (by myself) watching the World Series (Yeah Giants) and those reese cups were just calling my name, I could hear them whispering from the kitchen...

emoticon " You know you want one, even two, it's ok, no one is around, it won't hurt you, ahhhhh we are yummy and you know you can't eat just one, come and get me". Yep, you probably think I'm crazy for hearing candy calling my name, but I am sure everyone has a weakness that whispers to them. What whispers for you?

emoticonI gave in and had two, and I totally hated myself the whole time I was eating it, I was completely helpless. Maybe not completely helpless I could have said no and normally I would have, but DANG, I just plain wanted to eat it and I DID.

I got to work this morning and logged it in my calorie tracker, thank goodness I was in a few points of my calorie range and I didn't go over. That's a relief. emoticon

Tonight, mark my words, that candy bowl is going to disappear. I don't care how much money I spent on the stinking Halloween candy, it's getting tossed. Every evil little piece, I will be reese cup "free".

P.S. Since I posted this - my sister called, she has hidden all the Halloween candy - she read this blog and decided to "handle it". Thanks sis for rescueing.

    Ha Ha Ha - I had reece's in my bowl this year too. The hubs loves them and guess what - SO DO I? I was really good this year though. I only ate a couple the whole time too. That is pretty darn good because those candy's are so yummy.

    I replaced my Reese's love with spreading natural peanut butter (no added sugar) on a square of extra dark chocolate (85-95% cocoa). It is sooooo extremely rich and chocolately I can only eat one. And that chocolate flavor lasts for a while. That, and you can buy the really good stuff, not cheap chocolate. If you're gonna treat yourself, make it a real treat, right?

    Hey, at least you stopped at two.

I can't have those things in my house at all, because I most definitely can't stop at two, or three or even four or five. Once I get started it's all over.

In fact I can't have popcorn, pasta, dried fruit, cheese, cold cuts, grapes, bread, or any kind of snacks or desserts in my house or they start calling me at night and I have a very very hard time resisting them.

So, in comparison you did remarkably well!

    Eating two isn't going to be the end of the world. As long as you're aware of what you're eating and putting into your body and you keep it in check, you're fine. Being angry and hating yourself for enjoying a couple of Reeses only makes you angry at yourself and feeling down on yourself and doubting your ability to say no and stick with your weight loss plan. The difference is, you said no to them all day, then when you did have a couple, you only stopped at two. Nothing was stopping you from eating the whole bowl, and all you had was two. Don't get down at yourself. Rather than chastising yourself for eating two, congratulate yourself that you were able to only eat two.

It's completely okay to enjoy a Reese or two every now and then. Every day might be pushing it, but still. If it's something you love, you shouldn't hate yourself for eating it. It builds resentment towards trying to be healthier and can lead to you giving up on it all together. Enjoy the little things in life, just enjoy them in moderation. Be aware of what you're eating and know how it affects your body, and applaud yourself for being able to keep it in small quantities.

  I gave some of the reese's to my neighbor's son who is too old to trick or treat and who can probably stand a few extra calories at his age! They don't whisper my name, the bellow for me; so, I have to shut them up by eating them. that's when I gave them to Jake!

    You are a lean mean calorie burning machine, those 2 little pb cups are going to disappear before you know it. I would definitely get rid of the rest though, because if moderation isn't possible with those triggers then they need to go.
I'm lucky that everyone else in my house do the over indulging so the little bit I had was in moderation.

    I think it's ok to eat anything -- but definitely not to hate yourself while you're eating it! Then it's so totally not worth it.

But it's also totally worth it to throw it out if it's calling to you. I've been there, done that.

Oh yeah, reese's cups are one of my faves. I'll get the heatlhy ones -- sunspire or newman's own -- every once in a blue moon.

    I hear ya! I moved the candy last night, too, and put all the Halloween decorations away. I CANNOT have any more candy! The scale shows it, too! Between the Halloween candy and empty calories in Vegas, I have some calorie burning to do!

Hope your Tuesday rocks! It's weight training at lunch for me and either plyometrics or HIIT tonight after Biggest Loser. So many decisions! emoticon

    A treat every once in a while, especially if you stay in calorie range is perfectly fine. It's Halloween. I would guess that just about everybody had at least one piece of candy (maybe all they'll admit to). I had some candy corn and I was okay with it. Of course, I did bake cookies out of the rest of the candy and sent about half to work with my Husband. I've got the other half here that I will inflict on the staff of the dialysis unit.

    1. So you ate's OKAY! Don't sweat it! (That's an order!) And, don't hate yourself! Never ever hate yourself. We all have our moments of weakness (for instance, mine was some cheese fries after softball last night. Granted it was just a few, but we all do it. Did I hate myself? No. But I also know I shouldn't have done it. Oh and learn!)

2. Now you know the candy tempts you, put it away. You know the old saying 'Out of sight, out of mind.'

3. Rather than tossing it out, what if you find some way to maybe give it away? Donate it somewhere (work, your daughter's school, church, food pantry, etc.). You'll be getting rid of it, but also doing some good in the process emoticon

Post Race Blues

I think I am suffering post race BLUES. I didn't do a thing yesterday except eat way too much Halloween candy and just bum around on the couch all day. Is there such as thing as post race blues????? Anyone?????

Today starts a new month - so while I was lying around yesterday doing absolutely nothing, my mind was off and racing as to what to get into for this month, and the decision is... Gonna go full throttle with P90X and cut back on running to about 3 times a week. Still need to keep the running going strong since I've definitely set my sites on the Shamrock 1/2 marathon in March 2011. Gonna work on building up some noticeable muscles. These cold months are the worst being stuck inside the house, so why not make the best of it and set a goal to complete the P90X program during this month. I'm going to BRING IT !!!! What are your goals for November? Please share.

I definitely need a solid goal to work towards, since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, with all that yummy food. I need distraction from the holidays so I am going to be aggressively and actively involved in P90X. The holidays tend to stress me out so much so I think if I channel my inner SPARK and keep driving toward a goal, I can fly right through the holidays with little stress, that's the plan anyway.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. OK, I'm gonna get all mushy now..... I want to say thanks again to all my SP buddies for your encouragement and support, and for your continued support, it makes a tremendous difference in all that I do. I will help you in every way I can. I just want you to know that SP is such a big part of my life, it's totally changed me, and I want to be able to share it with others and to help YOU along the way. I have SPARK pride and I will continue to keep that SPARK burning. I love you all.

    You're gonna be just fine! I don't know what kind of blues you are having, but I think we all get them at one time or another. One of my goals is to get my 5:00 a.m. workout Monday through Friday. Another, track my food on Spark. Another, sticking to Dr. Goglia's plan as much as possible. Another, getting Turbo Fire or P90X workout in every day. Another, be happy and live life to it's fullest each and every day!

    You've got excellent goals for this month. I will be finishing the C25K on 11/18 unless something happens. I plan to keep up the 30 minutes 3 times a week for at least a week. Then maybe I'll up it to B210K at the end of the month. I plan to do circuit training/weights 3 days a week and yoga on Saturdays.

Nov. is going to be very challenging for me. A 10 day vacation in paradise . . . come back practically on top of Thanksgiving . . . going to the inlaws (who barely know what a veggie is) about a week after that . . .

I am still thinking on my plan to handle all of this.

Oh, and there can definitely be post race blues, especially when it's a big one you've trained hard for for a long time (not that I would know about that, but I've read about it). I think the trick is to have a new goal to work towards, and sounds as if you've found that!

    Oh, I do believe in post-race blues, just like the Cowardly Lion believed in ghosts! Been there, done that, more than once!

Seriously, sounds like you have a good plan, and it's similar to my post-race plan for after my 5K Run to Remember next weekend. Having a goal to work towards helps. Having that goal be realistic and set one up for success is vital!

Wicked 10K Race is DONE !!! Lots of pics

Gorgeous weather day for our race. My sis (Neecee) and I were so nervous and excited.

Pre-race amping up with a little GU.

So many people - 6,132 runners in the 10K

Major traffic jam getting started, weaving in and out, trying to get around others so we could set our pace (this was new to us, never had to bob and weave to fight for a spot - that slowed us down for the first 1.5 miles)

About mile 4

Soooo many people, no one could get our pic crossing the finish line

A little post race stretching - boy was that well earned and deserved.

There was a surprise waiting for me at the finish line..... My BFF from California flew in the night before (she didn't tell me) and was at the finish line. How cool is that to cross the finish and the first thing you see is your best friend. Thanks Teresa, Love YA so much.

And Dad came all the way from NY to share our day with us.

I was meeting our fellow sparkers who were also running the race, but it was so mobbed with people, no one saw me. Sorry I missed my SP buddies, we will have to schedule to meet another time, but I was there showing some SPARKPEOPLE PRIDE !!!

MY sweet DH was holding up the sign for me, I love that he supports me even though he thinks I'm a bit silly, but I really believe in SPARKPEOPLE, it has changed my life so much, just want the same for others.

I'm talking on my cell phone in this pic - my BFF Maria called to congratulate me on the race, so nice to have supportive friends. Love you too Maria and Eli.

Spent the afternoon "Chillin" outside with my BFF's, it was such a gorgeous day to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, we sat outside all day, just talking and laughiing, we even took a nap outside in the lawn chairs. What a great day.

The day was topped off with dinner at my fav Mexican restaurant. This was a special occassion dinner, to celebrate the race so I had to rock the new purple suede boots with my race medal, a perfect accessory for the outfit (yes I know my eyes were closed in the picture, darn it). I am so proud of just finishing the race, we finished at 1:06:32, my sis and I ran across the finish line holding our hands up in the air and then we just hugged each other and jumped up and down like a couple of idots, we were so excited that it was over, we did what we set out to do. Mission Accomplished - woo hoo.

rive back to Chesapeake n take the child to a birthday party. Sounds like you rocked the race! I was happy with the results- I ran fast and didn't stop. I signed up for the Santa n Surf 10 miler. Not a lot of time to train so I'm just doing it for fun. Meetup is a great idea. I'll try and think of some ideas too. emoticon

    Hey!! Congratulations!! This blog caught my eye because I live in Chesapeake and I also did the Wicked 10k. You may have seen my team of 6 witches, a warlock and 2 cauldrons with dry ice smoking that we pushed all 6.2 miles!!! Anyway - great job!!! You had a great race. And it WAS a beautiful day wasn't it???

    You guys look GREAT! And sooo fast! Especially after being so sick for so long -- I'm so proud of you!

Since my first race, which was about 4000 people, I've read it's a waste of energy to bob & weave -- I didn't (much) on my 2nd, which was about 2000, and my time was sooo much faster, but of course there were a lot of other things going on to help that.

You look GREAT in your purple suede boots, too (I want them!). I actually do have a shorter pair (since purple is also one of my favorite colors) but they just aren't as comfortable as I'd like.

Of course you should shout SP pride!

Ran my first 10km with my 13 grandson. It was a great kick for both of us, although we did not finish together, we each ran our own race (his choice). Be we did some running together, we started the race together and we celebrate after together. Build some good memories.

The Last Run

Ran my last run for the week, gonna rest up for the big day on Saturday. If I'm not ready by now, I guess I won't be, but.... I ran four miles last night, in pretty good time, but boy was it extremely humid out there. I got overheated pretty quick, I hate humidity. Anyhow after last night's run, I feel pretty good about where I stand. I just need to keep my cool, don't let the nerves kick in, set MY pace and go for it. I even practiced a finish line SMILE. I want to be smiling that last 1/2 mile, make it look like I did 6 miles effortlessly - HA HA !!! So I think I've got the evil, sinister grin down pat. Just cross your fingers for a great weather day.

Tonight I am going to do a round of kickboxing, gonna take it easy. Going to carve my annual pumpkin tonight - if it turns out good, I will post pics. I love to carve pumpkins, I've mastered the beginner and intermediate levels, so tonight I am shooting for "advanced".

Remember.... bring some happiness and joy to someone's life today and every day - SHARE the SPARK.
