My Bust Out was a Blow Out

First of all, my fitness plans for the week had to be totally rearranged from the normal routine, so I was debating all day yesterday what to do to make up for the monkey wrench thrown into my week. I decided I was going to go home, cook and while dinner was in the oven, I was gonna BUST OUT a Jillian workout.

Well, as good as that sounded, life got in the way. I set timer on stove for 15 minutes, ran into my den, started the workout. I really hate this DVD too, it bores me to tears lately - I just absolutely get annoyed with Jillian and I have graduated from this DVD, it still gives me a workout, but not like it used to, so I am really super bored with it, so that makes it hard to do.

Timer went off on stove, I ran into kitchen , put dinner in the oven, set timer for another 15 minutes and went back to finish my workout, well needless to say, by this time everyone was moaning and groaning: "When's dinner gonna be ready", "how much longer you workin out" (in a whiny tone of voice) - so I was just plain agitated and bored so I cut it short and did a quick cool down.

Went back to kitchen to finish dinner. I tried a new recipe from SPARK Broccoli Quest - I thought it was similar to a dish my hubby had last week at Cracker Barrel that he liked alot, so I was excited about it.

I thought it was mediocre, he hated it because it wasn't like Cracker Barrel. He was comparing my healthy version to the fatty, greasy, rich version he had last week. I have to admit the ckn was a little dry, it was edible, but nothing to write home about. I endured the meal with jokes from hubby and daughter. You know I really get kinda tired of the jokes sometimes, I take it all in stride most of the time, because I know I'm not the greatest cook in the world, but dang, cut me some slack, I was experimenting with a new recipe and last night was one of those nights that I surely could have done without the jokes.

Instead of feeling like I BUSTED OUT a great workout and a fantastic dinner - it ended up being a BLOW OUT. I feel like some deflated my rubby ducky and took the wind outta my sail.

I have already made tonight's dinner (I did it last night while I was washing dishes) - you know, multi-tasking. Southwest Pasta Salad, it's another SPARK recipe, and I love it, I've made it at least 10 times, yummy. I can be happy with just a bowl of pasta salad for dinner, why can't the family? They want me to stop and get a bucket of chicken to go with it, since it's not a meal to them.

What constitutes a meal in my house? Meat, potato, vegetable, dessert. What constitutes a meal for me? something simple, a grilled cheese sandwich, a bowl of cereal, or just a small salad, couple sides of steamed veggies - helloooooo people, eat light.

I'm done venting and whining now, not really. Today is gonna be a better day, somehow I have to manage to get a run in today, it's really stressing me to get my workouts in this week, but I am certainly not gonna give them up. Wish me luck into squeezing it all in and getting it done. Hope everyone has a SPARK-tastic day.

    I'm going to look into that Southwest Pasta Salad. After a weekend of excess, me and the hubs are ready to get back to eating better.

If the family doesn't like the healthy food, then they should just make their own dinner!

  You could always tell Mike and Katie that if they don't like it, cook dinner themselves. I bet they shut up real quick then, lol.

    Good luck sweetie!!! I had one of those nights dinner wise last night. Put a turkey breast in the oven. Directions said cook for 1 hour. An hour and half later, I pull it out of the oven and it is still red inside. My husband gets home from work at 7:30 p.m., so at 8:15 it should have been ready to eat. No way - we ate broccoli salad and some wild rice that I cooked. Oh well - such is life. I will say that I am fortunate that I got my husband off that meat, potatoes, veggie crap. Now we eat meat about three nights a week and the rest is veggies.

Sometimes our families just do not appreciate all the work we put into taking care of them and ourselves.

Oh and BTW - Not really sure which Jillian you are doing, but when I did the 30 day shred, after the 5th day, I finally turned volume down and stuck my IPOD on my ears.

Peaceful, Relaxing Afternoon

emoticonDid my one-hour yoga dvd yesterday afternoon. Yoga is very effective if you practice in peace and quiet. I finally got peace and quiet, no phone ringing in the middle of my workout, no dogs barking, no unexpected guests. Ahhhh, quiet, made for a great hour of stretching and cleansing the mind. Now I am geared up for the week after a wonderful afternoon of yoga, and a very early bedtime last night.

emoticonI started off on a bad note this morning, didn't get up for a morning workout, chose to lay in bed and be lazy, now I will have to make up for it tonight, with a run in the heat and humidity - YUCK, that's what I get for being lazy.

    I know exactly how you feel. If I miss my morning workout, I feel like "crap" the rest of the day and am disappointed in myself for not dragging my booty out of bed. I am glad you enjoy yoga. I am still trying to make yoga my friend, but find it difficult.

Hope your weather cools down soon. We are finally getting a break in the midwest and some much needed rain!

    Woo hoo! Nice to get that peaceful relaxing time. We so rarely are able to enjoy that.
So you didn't get up to work out...eh you'll have a fabulous workout later and still feel great!

  I didn't get up either. However, I did spend 3 hours saturday and sunday at umpire training outside in the heat. Most of which was spent running and yelling out calls, that type of thing.

Mall MADness

I am suffering from Mall MADness, it's probably a sickness everyone has suffered from time to time, but seems like I got doubly infected yesterday. Mall MADness is when you go shopping and can't find a thing to buy, you are just plain MAD. emoticon

I left the mall yesterday, after shopping in every store and not finding a thing - MAD, MAD, MAD. I was soooo depressed when I left there. I have worked so hard to lose weight so I can shop in the trendy stores like Forever 21, Papaya, etc. and NOTHING. emoticon

Everything in the stores is made of t-shirt material, t-shirts made to look fancy - YUCK. I can't wear t-shirts to work. What happened to career wear, nice blouses and skirts? emoticon

I'll tell you what happened to all the nice clothes, they are like the dinosaurs - EXTINCT. What happened to color? EXTINCT, no pinks, reds, teal. Everything is brown, olive green, black, white or grey, how drab and boring. I even shopped at Macy's, Dillards and JCPenney and they have the same things, glorified t-shirts - ugly and drab.

So needless to say, I am suffering from Mall MADness, I hope I find a cure for this disease soon, it really affects the pschye.

Have you ever experienced this depressing disease? Simply madness.

    Sorry that you had a bad experience. emoticon I'm not there yet - I'm still in the I-have-to-wear-what-fits-regardless
-of-whether-I-like-it-or-not stage. Hopefully that won't last much longer and I won't have that same experience you had! I can dream!

  I'm just happy to finally be able to go to the mall and buy t-shirts at regular stores and not having to pay the extra couple dollars for size 3x and up.

    How about Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, J.Crew? Just a few of my favorite places.

Thankfully, I suppose, I rarely suffer from that disease. It's usually the opposite! Sorry it was such a frustrating experience.

    Don't know exactly what you're looking for, but have you ever tried Christopher and Banks? If they are not in your area, they are also online. If you have to really dress up for work, they might not be dressy enough, but I am quite a fan of their stuff, barring the Alfred Dunner, which they just added this summer. That's not my thing. I'm looking forward to seeing what they bring in for fall--separates you can use as twinsets, etc. Good Luck!

Son-in-Law Sunrise

emoticonTalked my SIL in joining me at the oceanfront this morning at 5:30 a.m. for a 3 mile run on the boardwalk. We had a great run, with an added bonus - I got to see the sunrise, can't remember the last time I've seen it at the oceanfront, I'm actually thinking I've never seen it from Virginia Beach. I've lived here all my life, shame I waited 41 years for that. I think I better look out, my SIL is becoming quite the runner. Glad for a change of scenery from the usual run, hope to do a repeat maybe next Saturday. Not only am I influencing the kids on "the ways of the SPARK", I'm hoping to turn them ALL into morning people.

Bronzed the bod with some rays today for about 2 hours - 82 degrees, sunny, with a breeze - PERFECTO. emoticon

Had lunch at the gourmet bistro where my baby works - great, healthy sandwich in an elegant atmosphere - she looks so cute wearing her work uniform and hat.

Headed to the mall with Hubby this evening - I do believe retail therapy is order. I'm in the mood to shop and of course, I have COUPONS !!!!! just hope I can find something worth buying.

    Sounds like a GREAT day!

I often run at that hour simply because it's cooler, but I just see the sky lightening, not really the sunrise. Would love to run by a beach -- love the ocean -- at least I should see it next week on our vacation!

  I enjoyed the run this morning. I'm going to have to talk to Denise about getting you to start kicking that last bit. When we run the real 5k, we WILL be sprinting at least the last block, possibly more.
