Got up 4:30 this morning for a much needed run. Did 3.8 miles, that was all we had time for. When I got back I was sitting outside on our swing trying to cool down a bit before my shower. I looked down at my legs as I was taking my shoes off and noticed...

HOLY HAM - I have shins now. They are no longer hiding under fat. WOW, I was totally diggin the fact that I could see my shins - an honest to gosh "shin dig". Woo hoo for small changes that are taking place in my new body. I'm diggin it. Corny but true.

Opinions Change

Last night I tried something totally outta my realm. A friend of mine talked me into meeting her for a hot yoga class. I admit I had a lot of reservations about yoga - can I take the heat? will I be the chubby girl in the class? do I have the balance? am I flexible enough? and the biggest worry was: could I really do it?

YES, I did it. It was fabulous. I discovered something that I CAN DO. I'm surprised that I am fairly flexible and I really didn't have a whole lot of trouble getting into poses and maintaining them. I was pleasantly surprised at what a great workout it was. I could feel my muscles really stretching and boy did I sweat like crazy. I paid for a week introductory classes, so I am reworking my schedule now to fit in some more classes this week.

I can't really take on any more classes right now, but I can see that Yoga is gonna be something that I need to squeeze in occassionally. It was great stress relief, loved the sweat and most of all I left there feeling like I'd had a massage - I was so limp and relaxed. I think doing Yoga the day following a really long run would be very beneficial, so I am going to try to do it at least once a month - hopefully I won't get too hooked on it since my primary focus now is running that 10K in October and still love and crave the endorphins from a good cardio workout.

My momma always said to try new foods, even if you didn't like it yesterday, try again today, and you might like it. So once again, mom is always right - opinions and tastes can change.

My final words. YOGA - don't knock it till you try it. emoticon

    I'm glad you liked HOT!!! I enjoyed having you next to me sweating just as much as I was!!! Did you manage to get to HOT classes later that week? i know ours was "warm"...keep an eye on GROUPON.com....they might do another 10 classes for $25 like I got in on...now i'm just monthly...that's who amazing it is!! emoticon

    Thanks for your report! I've been doing yoga for years, mostly at home. Haven't tried hot yoga yet, as I said.

Yoga works very well with running . . . try googling yoga for runners & see what you come up with.

    Sounds awesome! I actually just found a studio and I may start taking classes once a week. I believe they have a new session starting at the beginning of August. Fun!

    Yoga is a great way to relieve muscle soreness after a long run. I usually do about 15 minutes or so after I run. Good luck with you 10K.

Zen Hot Yoga

Gonna try some hot yoga tonight, never done it, but hey, if it's good for the body, I'll try anything once. Hopefully I can take the heat - it's supposed to be pretty darn hot in there, guess that's why it's called hot yoga (you never knew I was pretty smart, eh?) Gonna give it a try.

My sis is due back from Myrtle Beach today, I know she had a blast, but I sure missed my running buddy - couldnt go out on the 4:30 a.m. runs alone. Back to the early morning run tomorrow miss neecee, you've been on vacation long enough, and we have a new best time to beat.

    Oh man I sure do love Yoga. I hope your gonna love it as much as I do. It gets you so centered. And it helps align the body along with waking up and stimulating everything in the body.
The hot yoga sounds like something I'd really enjoy.

The Middle of Nowhere

Got up early and ran 2 miles, set a personal best record - woo hoo. Then went to visit some friends in NC. They live in the middle of nowhere. Great day enjoying old friends, laying out in the sun, riding the golf cart around their property, watched the dog fish in the pond, yes, their dog jumps in the ponds and catches fish, pretty cool. Wanted to ride the 4-wheelers but it was just too dang hot. Relaxing day in the country, sure was hot, but back at home in the A/C getting ready to cook some fresh corn we picked up at a roadside market. Not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow, why can't every day be this nice and relaxing, no worries.

We never outgrow the Zoo

Took my baby girl (17) to the zoo today, a mother-daughter outing. Saw baby piglets that were born yesterday - oooh soo cute. And the baby giraffe. It was 93 degrees outside and humid, probably walked 2 miles and sweated off a few pounds. We went to Doumar's drive-in for lunch - had a BBQ and a limeade. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Doumar's - it's a 1950's drive-in restaurant - things sure have changed over the year's, except for Doumar's. I think I was born in wrong era, I should been born to enjoy the 1950's. Anyway, great day with daughter, glad she could squeeze me in her busy social calendar. Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.

    When my daughter came to chicago to visit 2 yaears ago, we took her to the zoo and she an I both loved it. She was also 17ish at the time. Your right about never outgrowing the zoo, its a great thing to share with children big or small, its those memories that never change.
