I've been robbed, of a super fantastic workout that is. Went to kickbox class last night and had a new instructor - she was new for our class, but not as in never done this before. She was totally unprepared to teach us, she didn't know the routines, couldn't get her groove going and kept us jumping all over the place trying to follow what she was doing all the while she was trying to figure out what she was doing as she went along. I say again, I've been ROBBED.

I paid for this class and was so mad, I wanted to quit half-way because it was so disorganized. I wanted my money back, but I just kept my big mouth shut and finished the class. I know people have "off" days, but I don't pay for someone to have an "off" day, it's their job.

I was hanging my head in utter disappointment as I left class, I certainly didn't get what I came for - 1,000 workout, more like 500 or what I paid for. Bummer.

    I would certainly mention this to the owner, ask for a credit for another class vs a refund, they are usually agreeable on those terms.

    Ahh too bad to hear that! I know what you mean! the instructor is everything! You should of took over and did the moves you remember from previous classes! You should give your coments with the gym manager!
Hope you had a better workout next time!
Im sure you still did great with your workout and you will succeed no mather who 'robs' you! emoticon

    I can certainly understand your frustration. Is she the new, permanent instructor, or just filling in? Do you have to go to more classes with her, or was it a one-time class? Sorry for my ignorance... I'm not sure how those classes work. If it were me, I might be inclined to mention it to the owner and tell him/her that I'll give it one more try before asking for my money back. Like you said, everyone has an "off" day, but you should also get what you pay for.

    That is a bummer! I remember feeling the same way after a spin class, but since it was included in my gym membership, I couldn't really do anything about it.

    Yes, try to get credit for the class, but be patient with the instructor. Hopefully, with constructive criticism, she will find out if she is cut out for this job or she will try harder next time.

  Why not mention this to the owner? At the very least they will get some constructive criticism, but you may get a refund or a credit for a free class. Good luck!

Picky Pants

My hubby has a secret nickname... Picky Pants. He knows I refer to him as PP and he knows I don't mean it in a bad way, but people let me tell you for someone who will eat just about anything, he's really picky - does that even make sense? Well to me it does. Seems like every time I try a new recipe he really kinda picks at his food, silently eating. He never admits that I made a totally awesome dinner, I guess he doesn't want to seem as excited about a new dish as I am (maybe it's a "man" thing), but I'm guessing that he has a preconceived notion that everything new I cook is gonna be healthy and taste crappy (perhaps crappy recipes have happened in the past - hee hee)

Last night I sprang a new recipe on him... Chicken & Linguine Carbonara (kudos to HOKIEJEN13 for posting a great recipe on SPARK). He really didn't say much, but he was at least eating it. I asked him if it was good, he said it was "OK", I thought it was FANTASTIC - I was so tickled with myself that I actually cooked something that turned out delicious instead of a disaster) It musta been better than "OK", since he got up for ROUND 2 (a second helping).

The light bulb finally came on for me last night, duh... his definition of "OK" is man-code for "IT's REALLY GOOD". Later on last night I said "gee dinner sure was good" and he said I needed to put that recipe on a permanent recipe card. So just let me say, that when a recipe gets its own index card, that means it's a keeper, a definitely cook again dish. Today I will make a neat recipe card to put in my Vera Bradley recipe box (a.k.a. my treasure box).

Recipes are just one of the many great things from SPARK. I encourage everyone to dabble in the kitchen and experiment with new and healthy recipes, add a little spice and variety to the mundane meal routine. Keep it interesting and fun.

Who'da thought I could chef up something delicious? probably not Picky Pants.

    I enjoy playing around with food and new recipes, trying out new types of food, etc. Sounds like your husband gives your "experiments" two thumbs up too! :-)

    I'll have to check into that recipe. I am probably the luckiest girl on the planet since my husband loves to cook (and he's good at it!). Guys can certainly be silly. My grandparents rate every recipe (she's seriously into Taste of Home) 1-10. That might be a way to get more imput from him. If something doesn't get more than a 5 or 6 they don't make it again. Recently they compiled all the good ones into a recipe book for 'us kids.' Yummo!

    I'm exactly like you, in that I just LOVE to cook (for others)and to experiment in the kitchen.

Hubby is the Head Food Taster in my "Test Kitchen". He loves that I experiment- and he's VERY good at letting me know if he likes something or not. Reviews range from "horrible" to "fantastic" - and everything in between.

He's always honest (I don't have to guess if he likes/dislikes something) - and I appreciate his honesty. I always "warn" him when I'm trying something new - telling him that if he doesn't like it - nothing lost - I just don't make it again. Nothing lost for trying. If it's REALLY good - I keep it for special dinners/company.

I have found some FANTASTIC recipes in SP, and I will continue to mine for new dishes on SP! Having healthy recipes and a variety of delicious foods to choose from makes this new "lifestyle" so easy to maintain!

Keep on cookin', darlin'! Good food, and good company are the spice of life!

    My husband is the same way! He even goes so far as to smell everything before I fix it!

Two for the Price of One

I am calling my workout this morning - two for the price of one. It was a great 30 minute run this morning in about 99% humidity - so that's a cardio workout and the benefits of a sauna - icckkk. My clothes were soaked when i got back, yeah that's gross - but I was determined not to let the humidity stop me from getting that morning workout in, especially since it's hotter in the evenings. !!! emoticon Today was emoticon of training for a 10K - I'm GONNA DO THIS.

    Good job!!!! the humidity has been annoying! I've been walking the dogs at 5:30am and about 1/2 way I feel like I'm dripping, it's nasty - but better than trying to walk when it's 90+ right? emoticon

    You have to do the 10K! Otherwise, you'll leave me running it all by my lonesome. And, well, 6.2 miles is a long way to go alone.....(that sounds like a pretty good guilt trip, right?? emoticon)

But really, kudos on getting out there early, it's going to a be hot sticky day - I know this because I couldn't even see the tops of the Town Center high rises when I drove in to work this morning...there was already that much haze.....

Gotta Get Busy

Ok, i was a slacker over the weekend, still met all my fitness goals but didn't feel like doing much since it was so hot- I did manage to layout at the pool on Saturday for a few, and enjoyed the sun yesterday. But way too hot for me for outdoor exercise. Yes, I could have done a workout DVD inside, but just felt like loafing. That weekend attitude spilled over to this morning, as I hit the snooze on my alarm clock and didn't get up for my workout. My laziness paid off though, I gained 2 pounds this week (hard to believe since I have been well within my calorie range but that's what the scale says). So I gotta get busy today, gonna do Jillian Fat Metabolism DVD when I get home tonight - gonna make it a good day, despite what that evil white monster in my bathroom said this morning. emoticon emoticon

    You go girl! let jillian kick your lil butt! the scale is just a number though so if you're eating healthy, feeling good, and being active while allowing rest which you are entitled too, i wouldn't let it get the best, what does the scale no, its no doctor haha maybe its sodium intake or who know what else! all i know is you can lose thoses 2 pounds no problem! And then some!

    You have done so well - keep it up. Scales can be crazy at times that maybe you need a change, but remember that there are a lot of reasons why you could have gained weight and this week you may see a big drop on the scale.

    Well, we can gain weight for all sorts of reasons, and it doesn't necessarily have to do with relaxing -- but more exercise again is rarely a bad thing!

Everyone needs a break sometimes. Just come back & hit it hard.

Little Things to be Thankful for...

I guess I'm just in a thankful mood this morning so I thought I'd just list a few...

1. My hip to waist ratio is finally mid-range.
2. I have graduated from being OBESE to overweight.
3. My SP friend got up for an early morning workout.
4. My sister for keeping me on track with my fitness - she's quite the slave driver
5. Beautiful weater today for a motorcycle ride.
6. Country music - attending Brooks & Dunn farewell tour tonight
7. Subway - great low calorie, low fat on the run meals
8. My hubby - he kept me from throwing the scale out the window this morning
9. My daughter is officially a senior in high school, as of today
10. It's Friday, with a gorgeous weekend on tap
11. All my fellow Sparkers for the words of encouragement that I need to keep me going, I couldn't make it without my great SP support network.

Hope everyone has a great day, filled with lots to be thankful for.
