My Weakness - Mexican Food

Thursday, April 01, 2010

Last night took daughter to our favorite Mexican restaurant, Mexican food is my weakness, but I was determined not to over eat. And I didn't, left there feeling full and guilt free. Had 1/3 of my daughters quesadilla and only a handful of chips, filled up on salad. Yeah for me !!! emoticon

emoticon job making healthy food choices at dinner. I love Mexican food too. Mostly I've just stayed away from it but your post makes me realize that moderation and portion control are also options. emoticon

Warm Weather Wednesday

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

So excited about fantastic weather forecast today, gonna be great for a motorcycle ride and some outdoor cardio tonight, that will be the highlights of my day. Then the dreaded evening comes with a trip to the mall with my teenager to go bikini shopping - no, the bikini is definitely not for me emoticon. I love shopping with my daughter, but bathing suit shopping is definitely not at the top of my list of fun things to do - she will have to try on 50 to find 1 (maybe) that fits. I have suggested maybe trying a different style of bathing suit instead of a bikini, but she quickly snapped and said... "Mom, you don't understand, I have to wear a bikini, I'm a teenager". Oh, excuse me, I stand corrected. Hopefully the mall trip will be productive, quick and painless - wish me luck.

Oh MY have I EVER been there! Teenage girls! Yikes! And you DARED to contradict...bad bad bad...

Haha, I daughter is 23, and has SOOOOOO mellowed out that is was worth all of the scoldings I got for not understanding!

Oh man, when I read you were bikini shopping for a teenager, I cringed inside for you. Been there, done that SOOO many times. Did she find one? Or did she see every invisible wrinkle..haha. That was my daughter...they look at clothes on models which are of course taped into place, then she'd say "dont you see how it wrinkles right here????!!!! Heeellooooo!" haha, I can laugh about it now, and you will too someday...hopefully WITH her : )

I'd LOVE to hear how it went and if it was quick and painless.

Still On The Mend

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

I am still sore from my Saturday Kettlebell Class - that's three days of down time. Just think of all the exercises I could have been doing during those three days of recooping. Kettlebells is not the right class for me, it was fun while it lasted, but NOPE, not gonna do it again.

One class + 3 days recovery = NOT WORTH IT.

Don't I KNOW it! My husband got excited about "getting back in shape" because he has been watching me. So, what does he do? He started out right...we got our treadmill back from his sister. He was coming home at night and heading right down to the basement to watch news and workout.

well, one night he comes home and declares he found an over 40's basketball league and he's going to go play. This after basically sitting at his office desk for a year, not working out, having gained 25 lbs. etc. I am an RN and kept saying to him, it 's not worth it, you really need to have been doing that treadmill for several months before even considering it. Also, i have those Leslie Samsung walking tapes (do you have those? They are GREAT and a good way to bust out a half hour workout at home!) and there were ALL these moves when doing this tape with me, that he reported "that hurts my knee". I reminded him of this, but no, he had his mind set.

So, not only did he go play, which i thought would be just a little bit, but he played for TWO HOURS. Then, turned around and DID IT AGAIN two nights later!!!!

That was like six or seven weeks ago, now he is heading for an MRI of his knee. So,I absolutely agree, it is WAY better to just do what you CAN do, and start SLOWLY, than to just jump in and then have to pay for it.

Good for you for learning this lesson. and congrats on your weight loss! I totally believe you can be in the 100 lb club! My mother is 75 and in two years lost 120 lbs and I NEVER thought she would do it. She is now going on 50 if she is a day! If she can do it, WE can too, right? : )

Awww! Just recover for now! Being uber sore is no good! I know that when I first started P90X I was ubder sore after a plyometrics's basically all legs with A LOT of squatting and jumping. I woke up the next day and had the HARDEST time walking up just 3 stairs or sitting in my chair. I found that stretching and actually doing a workout (it was a weight lifting for that day) helped me workout my muscles. I'm not sure if that will help you...perhaps a light walk might warm up the muscles so you can stretch them?

Where was your kettlebell class? I'm thinking I might like to try a few classes out but don't want to pay all the $$ for Inlet or some of the other local gyms.

Kettlebell Class

Monday, March 29, 2010

Went to kettlebell class on Saturday morning. Oh my goodness, it was intense. I consider myself to be in pretty good shape, but after that, I am rethinking that. I used muscles I didn't even know I had and today (two days later) my thighs hurt so bad I can hardly stand up, but the worst part is trying to sit down from a standing position - OOUUCCHH, I have been doing a lot of moaning and groaning trying to sit (ok, everyone stop laughing). Overall, I guess I would rate the program itself at a 10, it targets different muscle groups and works cardio into the workout too, however, not sure this is the right program for me, even though they guarantee quick results. Today I am going to try to work those sore muscles with a little walking, and yes people, even walking is difficult ( I said quit laughing). Very undecided if I am gonna try it again.

I love kettle bells, and yes I have been in your situation. Sitting on the toilet was awful emoticon. There were days I would tell my classmate, no healthy person should feel this bad. emoticon I have to say if you keep with it the soreness will go away and you will love the results.
check out art of strength at, if you want to see a kettle bell work out. My instructor was certified by Anthony, and she is a kettle bell fanatic.

I would love to try it but I'll wait until I get a lot more fitter. I went to an hour long boot camp class once and it took me over 3 days to recuperate. I went to work and had to go home because I felt like I got hit by a bus. Feel better.

Don't think I will try that. emoticon

A nice hot bath will help move some of the lactic acid out of your sore muscles! emoticon

It sounds like it was a seriously intense class. I'm not quite there yet. lol

Hang in there. emoticon
