His and Hers Beans

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

I just love "summer" foods - anything and everything, as long as it's fresh. I have made a habit of stopping by our local market and picking up fresh produce daily and I love when all the summer freggies are abundant. I bought a couple pounds of fresh snap beans. I was in the kitchen preparing them and washing them, when the DH comes in to see what I'm up to. He asked how I was planning on cooking the beans. I had asked a couple friends the best way to cook them and its was unanimous....steamed.

I immediately got the "nose squinch" from the DH and then he asks if he can have half the beans cooked "his" way, with some "grease". Really????? Bacon drippings??? I wanted to SHOUT...this ain't Paula Dean's kitchen, but instead I whispered softly.... "yes dear" [in my best June Cleaver voice ]

No sense in arguing over how to cook beans [sheesh] so I compromised [ya have to do that with the men folks, ya know]. So here we have it.... His and Hers beans, lol.

DH grilled us a hamburger [extra lean beef, of course] and we heated up some leftover corn on the cob. I skipped the bun and cheese, topped my 2.4 oz burger with a sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese, raw onions and fresh japaleno peppers, with a bed of lettuce and tomato on the side.

My yummy presentation of 250 calories.

What's for dinner tonight? That is the million dollar question....depends on what jumps into my shopping cart.

I'll tell you a little secret. When I do have fresh beans out of my garden, I steam them, then add some fried up bacon and grease instead of butter and salt. I know, not great, but only a couple times a year and such a comfort food for me; reminiscent of my childhood.

Hmmm, there's nothing like fresh steamed beans with just a pinch of salt. Hope that your sweetie enjoyed his special beans with just "a little bit of grease." :D

I wish food would jump into my cart. That would make shopping so much easier. What is your secret to get it to hop in? emoticon

My DS has hated EVERY kind of bean his entire life (he's 19). But he loves fresh green beans steamed or sauteed with a little olive oil. He says they bear no resemblance to the "other" beans...not even the same food, in his opinion!

So...YOU win! Seriously, though, it was very nice of you to fix DH "his" beans.

I'm with you. I like my beans steamed with a pinch of sea salt and maybe a drizzle of olive oil. Hubby turns his nose up at that. He prefers his snap beans well done with bacon. Your dinner looks yummy!

You're a better wife than me, Lisa! My husband gets whatever I decide to make.

I was just weeding and saw some beans that are almost ready. By next week, I should have enough for a meal. (In a few weeks, I'll have a freezer full!)

Just look at the difference! Your beans win hands down! Your plate looks delish my friend. We go bunless with Paleo and add a couple strips of bacon...because we can! Gotta love the onions, tomatoe, pickles and lettuce, too. I'm not so sure about the peppers. I'll try it...just for you!

Weight Issues from a Purrrr-fect Point of View

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Today is Garfield's Birthday, I would have never known that if one of my fellow sparkettes hadn't told me, she's always in the "know" about these sorts of things. Thought I dedicate this to all you cat lovers out there and remind you that cats struggle with weight issues just like us, so be kind to your feline friends and feed them properly. Enjoy these cute pics from google - I searched for cat pics - weight loss and this is what I came up with.

BTW, I think all my fellow sparkies and sparkettes are the cat's meeeoooooow.

The Vacation Report (with pics)

Monday, June 18, 2012

I'm baaccckkkk!!!! and a few pounds heavier, uggh. Vacation this year packed on 3-pounds, but no worries, I'll shake that off in no time. I ate really well, lots of healthy foods. One of the ladies prepared this lovely plate of appetizers, yummy.

I believe it was the lack of exercise and a lot of fruity umbrella drinks that did me in, but despite the weight gain, I had a super fantastic time. I lived a carefree lifestyle with some amazingly fabulous women - five days, five ladies of leisure.

We enjoyed themed nights (luau, Mexican, Sex & the City) complete with costumes and accessories, lots of laughter and lying on the beach or by the pool. (for inquiring minds: I did wear my bikini and felt pretty confident wearing it, but not brave enough for pics) The funnest night we had was my last night there, it was glow-stick night, we donned our necklaces, tiaras and glow-wear and had some hysterical fun involving: a kitchen rolling chair, a deck and an elevator (you figure that one out, what happens in the Outer Banks...stays in the Outer Banks, lol)

I did manage to get in one run while I was there, but after that I just put tracking and fitness aside. And I see where that got me - 3 pounds - so lessoned learned, you always have to be vigilant, but it really was nice to escape EVERYTHING for 5 days.

Here's a pic from our deck, the penthouse, woo hoo - we traveled in style.

A little site seeing and shopping...how you like my new boyfriend??

It was a super vacation, can't wait to have my BFF with me next year and to expand our circle of friends.

Ended the week with a super father's day celebration... We took the GS on his first visit to the zoo, he liked the giraffes..

Took the motorcycle out for a spin, hadn't done that in a while, but it was a quick trip, kinda nippy....

Enjoyed cooking a super dinner of lasagna for the hubby with a pineapple upside down cake for dessert, with the assistance of my lovely little helper - he was organizing my tupperware.

Back at it yesterday with the food tracking and got in a short 4 mile run, great weather today, so I'm sure I'll do a run this evening. Vacation life was fantastic, but the SPARK-life is the best. emoticon

Celebrating in Style

Friday, June 08, 2012

Well the big day has arrived... I'm forever 39. Started the big day off on the right foot. I ran to the office this morning, I've been wanting to do it forever and I finally had the opportunity to. Perfect time for me to try out my birthday gift the DH got me. A Garmin Forerunner 410 - this is the coolest gadget ever, I'm hoping it will help improve my running - it's high tech going to take me a while to figure out how to make that watch work to it's potential so I can work up to mine.

DH let me order the watch from Amazon, but he slipped out to the store last night for a surprise. He awoke me this morning with a lovely card, and he bought me this new awesome cup for my smoothies and to take with me on vacation, what a thoughtful gift and quite a surprise too.

My DD came by the office to deliver some balloons, and she bought me some of those big mamma jamma windchimes I've been wanting forever. She is such a ray of sunshine. We enjoyed a healty lunch at Cracker Barrel with lots of veggies and only ONE biscuit for me. Woo Hoo.

One the way back from lunch, this dude backed into my car - well Happy Birthday to me, lol. Whatcha gone do? Just laugh it off, it could have been so much worse, but thankful that it wasnt. That big black line, is a deep gash in my car, oh well - the guy was nice and apologetic, and I've already filed a claim, no harm done, just aggravation now to get it fixed.

Looking forward to a nice dinner with some ole friends. Thank you all for the birthday wishes. But one last thing.......

I've been saving this one all week....

It's last call at this party, so....

let's live it up.....

everybody out of your seats and.....

wobble with me....

Cracker Barrell. I WISH. We don't have one within a 100 mile radius of where I live. Sheesh I really do live in the boonies...Ha Ha Ha. It's Electric

Thursday, June 07, 2012

The birthday week party is in full swing now. It's Happy HOUR......

www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mOY2eWO2qw

Anticipation is killing me.... Waiting on the UPS guy to bring my special birthday present [stay tuned].

A low-key night last night, whipped up a super fantastic omelette for dinner last night - spinach, onions, pepper jack cheese, ham and a side of hash browns for dinner. It's great to have breakfast for dinner sometimes. Lounged around trying to finish my book... Born to Run, but I was just so sleepy, I think all the hype of my upcoming vacation was getting the best of me last night.

Think I may try to run to work tomorrow, get a long run in before I go on vacation, I'm still kicking that idea around, but I'm hoping to have a new toy to place with along the way....come on UPS guy.

Still keeping up with fitness minutes goal for the month and seven smiley faces.

Getting Buff emoticonno excuses.
