Was It Worth It?????

Wednesday, April 04, 2012

Just got back from a lunchtime run, managed to get in 3.5 miles before I had to be back to the office. It sure was humid, 75 degree and sunny, not a dry spot on my running clothes, shin sweat even, woo hoo. Felt like I was running with concrete shoes on til I got used to the heat, then still not much faster after that, hahahaha. I even found a penny, that truly makes my run complete. So glad I marched my butt outside, told my head to shut up and do it anyway.

emoticonI'm one hot mess now, but after I cool off, I will put my office attire back on, do a quick make-up touch up and be good as new, well actually better than new because I DID IT, even though I really, really, really, really didn't want to.

Was it worth it? You betcha. And did I mention I burned 520 calories? Woo Hoo.

I just saw this on a friends FB... SWEAT is fat crying - yeah emoticon

Bragging from the Kitchen

Tuesday, April 03, 2012

I got a new recipe for Paleo pizza from my good buddy HOKIEJEN. The crust is made of cauliflower, egg, cheese and few spices, then add your toppings of choice. I went to my favorite salad bar spot and got a few things from there to put on as toppings (onions, green peppers, mushrooms, pepperoni) they are already sliced up, so that saves me more time in the kitchen. This is my masterful creation.

It satisfied my craving for pizza without the fattening dough and is considerably less calories than one slice of pizza. Next time I will use reduced fat or skim cheese to make the crust, then I can eat the whole pizza, lol. I ate half and saved my sister the other half.

I'm all for a slice of pizza without the bread and fat, woo hoo. It was sooooo delicious, I'm glad I have enough leftover ingredients to make another one later this week - I'm thinking ham and pineapple, yum. This was the best thing I've had in a long time.

I have decided that April is going to be a very successful month. I will lose 4 pounds this month, I'm determined. I started the month off right with staying within range, eating only healthy, no processed foods and a super workout before dinner last night, Kenpo - burned 522 calories before dinner.

Granddaughters first track meet of the season is today - go Chargers. Going to attend her meet, then home for a short run (3 miles) and new glute workout to try to strengthen the lower back, trying everything to get the buttocks and hips in shape to better my running, and hoping it will help with the kinks in my hip/thigh.

The 7-Mile Run Update

Monday, April 02, 2012

Well, as promised, I'm posting how the 7-mile run went on Friday. Well it went really great for my sister, she's really doing great, as for me, well I followed her on the bicycle.

My hip was still a little sore on Friday morning so I decided not to push it, so I didn't want to disappoint her and not go, so I followed her on the bike. I still managed to burn 722 calories, woo hoo. She has recently recovered from a back issues (major pain and mulitple injections) and has been exercising her butt off lately and let me tell you, after following her for 7 miles and watching her shoulder muscles, lats, biceps, etc. - she's REALLY getting buff.

I can say I was very envious of her running, that she can do it pain-free, where as I'm not quite back to that level yet, so I know how bad she felt when she couldn't join me for the first half-marathon last fall. We are both working our way back to that. I was so proud of her and what she has managed to accomplish in so short a time.

Runs scheduled for today, Wed and a long one on Friday, I'm sure this week is gonna be much better since I won't have run 3-days in a row, that was my mistake last week - so another shot at it this week. I'm forever hopeful and never giving up.

I do believe I had a stellar week last week as far as calories and eating, no slip-ups and no over eating, so woo hoo on that.

I spent a great weekend with my chunky pie (grandson). He's six months old now, 20-pounds and six teeth, he's growing so fast, such a happy, smiley baby. I bought him the onesie he's wearing that says "I'm not chubby, it's all muscle", hee hee.

We celebrated some family birthdays this weekend too. I whipped up a cake, which I have averaged out to be less than 140 calories per slice, woo hoo. Angel food cake, with pineapple, lite cool whip and vanilla pudding mix (saw this in a magazine) topped with strawberries - this one is definitely getting adding to the recipe favorites.

Smart move riding instead of pushing it to run and I love that you and your sister are in this together! That is so awesome. I have been encouraging my sister to join me, with little result. She keeps telling me how great I am doing, and I know she wishes she was working out too. She ran my first 5k ever with me last May and nothing since. I hope she will join me more this summer.
Thank you for the inspiration!

Chunky pie is adorable and made me giggle. Maybe you didn't run but still, 7 miles on a bike, emoticon and just think about the benefits of cross training... good thinking! I had a tough 5.5 mile run Sunday but I did it, man o man those hills about croaked me but I made it through. I ran Saturday and had a pretty intense squat and lunge workout right after so I think by Sunday's run my legs were pretty tired. This week I plan to spread my runs out more too. Cheers to a great workout week!

My Bottom Jaw Just Hit the Floor

Thursday, March 29, 2012

I'm picking my jaw up off the floor right now. emoticon

I had one of these last night to dip my homemade grilled chicken breast in, no harm right?

Guess again. I'm in awe at the number of calories in this tiny container - 110, holy ham. My chicken turned out a little dry, guess I over cooked it [no surprise there] and besides... I don't hold the GRILL MASTER title in my house, the DH does.

I could not believe it, I still can't believe it. I will never DIP again, YEP I'm a reformed dunker - NO more dipping/dunking for me. I've been cured of that by reading the nutrition label. Hidden calories are everywhere. I am so surprised that I have never checked this before, I just assumed it was a max. of 40-45 calories, I mean really...in that tiny container is packed 110 calories with a sodium level that is off-the-chain too. OK, RANT OVER.

emoticonAfter dinner I indulged in an extra long stretching session, the hip was a little cranky after running three days in a row, so I spent extra time on the foam roller and doing some exercises I learned in physical therapy, followed up with an ice pack while I watched American Idol.

emoticonI DID NOT get up for my workout this morning, but for a good reason. My workout buddy [sister] was up until 2:00 a.m. studying for a final exam for her nursing class. I know she was so stressed about it and spent all night locked in her room studying. I didn't have the heart to bang on her door at 0430 this morning and blast Reveille from my IPod to wake her up. I know she will ACE the test, she's such a dedicated student and I know she going to make one fine nurse. AND...I will do my round of Kenpo emoticonwhen I get home this evening, since I don't have to cook [plenty of leftover DRY chicken, lol].

emoticonLong run planned for tomorrow, shooting for a 7-miler, hoping the cranky hip holds out and that will mean..... I'm back in the game for sure. Hoping to run that second half-marathon soon. So tomorrows run is a test on my ability per say, so cross your fingers. The mind and spirit are gung-ho, just hope the body keeps up.

Today is my Friday, so excited for a 3-day weekend. Big family dinner on Sunday to celebrate my son's 24 birthday and my SIL's birthday, and I get to have the grandson for a sleepover on Saturday night, yeah.

I read on someone's blog about making your treats look appetizing and make then fun, especially since I'm not treating myself to [no-no's] very often. Yes, I was playing with my food....One oreo with a half-cup strawberries, I agree...presentation is everything. [too bad I didn't have a dollop of cool whip].

Happy weekend everyone.

Funny - you just made me stop in my tracks as I love the Polynesian sauce from Chik-Fil-A when I get my random pack of nuggets. Thankfully, I am trying not to eat fast food anymore but I am very careful now. When I eat things like sandwiches - only mustard because of its calorie level. Funny thing is, with my diet, I usually have the calorie space for one or two little fattening things, but I avoid anyways.

Great job running three days in a row,but be careful. I know you had IT band issues so don't overdo it. I know I did a Half Marathon this weekend, which you know I could not finish - mostly due to IT Band soreness. But, I still went and did a 30 minute, 2.5 mile run yesterday evening on the treadmill. Probably should have waited. :-)

Hidden calories aren't the only thing you have to beware of. I have found that most of these sauces are loaded in sodium. On a high sodium day, I can put on 2 pounds of water weight, and for some reason, it can take me up to a week to lose it again.
I love the pic with the berries and cookies. I have to admit that I have started "playing" with my food that way as well. It makes it taste a whole lot better!!

Smacking the Snooze Button

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Did I get up and get in a good run at 0430 this morning or did I smack the snooze button emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

YEP, you guessed it.... I GOT UP, finally. I got up, got a 4-mile run in this morning. Feeling grooooooooovy. emoticon.

Getting up an hour early is really hard, and I am hoping to be able to make this a habit. Ok no hoping, I'm GONNA. I love getting in a workout first thing in the morning, it gives me soooo much energy to face the day and I feel great. I even had time to work out the kinks with the foam roller for about 15 minutes after my run, which is a MUST since I have the IT band issue and sore hip. I'm even icing it as I type this blog. I'm erring on the side of caution.

Had a great dinner last night....roasted the left over butternut squash, fresh steamed broccoli and 3 oz of pork loin with a honey/garlic glaze. I love it when my kitchen experiments are a hit, DH was happy because I cooked MEAT, lol.

After dinner I did the SPARK 10 minute ball workout, that was a nice change of pace from running, it was a strength training/core workout. Think I will add that in the mix a couple of times a week. 10-minutes burned 70 calories, not to bad for not having to work up much of a sweat, but my ABS are letting me know that they got a work-over last night.

Started the day with a protein shake for breakfast, eating leftover vegetarian chili for lunch today - packed full of protein so it keeps me full for most of the afternoon - YEAH !!!! Lots of fruits and veggies for snacks. GOSH I love having my meals planned and prepared.

No workout on schedule for tonight since I already got it done, I think I will work outside in the yard, a little cardio lawn mowing - a BONUS !!!! or maybe a little yoga stretching this evening. No running until Friday - got a long run planned so taking tomorrow off, but I'm getting up early for a workout of some kind - maybe a 30-minute Tony or a spin on the bike.

Feeling so great and energized right now, wish I could just exercise all day long.... Did I just say that ????
