Ahhhhh, Feel the Energy

Spent 1/2 hour last night doing some arm exercises with weights and did a lot of crunches on the exercise ball.

I had decided yesterday that it is time for me to start doing my workouts in the morning, I always feel fantastic afterwards and I know I need to use that time in the mornings for some "ME" time, but I have just been too lazy. I set my alarm and off to bed.

This morning my alarm goes off 0430 with "Reveille", time for this cadet to rise and shine, nothing like a loud bugle call to wake you up. I layed there for a minute, contemplating "should I get up" or "should I go back to sleep". DH heard the alarm and asked why I was getting up so early. I said to go for a run. He chuckled and said "sure you are", which I know he doubted me since I've been sayinhg I was going to do this for a while now, and had failed miserably at it. I didn't want him to be "RIGHT" again, so I knew I had to go.

After wrestling with the voices in my head, I jumped outta bed and said to myself.... get your butt out the door.

Hopped into my running clothes and out the door I went. Morning jogs are kinda creepy, it's dark, no sign of life, everyone still sleeping. I have to put the headphones on low so I hear any creepy noises and keep looking over my shoulder for weirdos. But I DID IT !!! YEAH !!!! I ran 4 miles this morning, with about one mile of it being speed work and I feel great. I allowed plenty of time for stretching and a 10-minute roll on the foam roller to work out the kinks. Made myself a protein shake, hopped in the shower and now I'm at the office.

OOOOOHHHH I can feel the energy, getting in a great workout first thing in the morning. I've been energized with a 500-calorie burn to start the day, way more powerful and better than any cup of coffee. Hoping today will fly by, I'm off tomorrow for a three-day weekend, woo hoo.

    I love morning runs! Every morning I look at my window and convince myself it is too cold and dark and I cave to my warm comfy pillow for some more sweet dreams! I'm not too keen on heading out in the dark BUT I need to gear up to head out as soon as it starts to lighten up a smidge; you're my idol! emoticon Many afternoons are taken up with my classes so I better get my rear in gear to get more runs in. The fitness studio I go to is starting a running team for every Sunday at 7:30am, totally doable! emoticon I admire your spunk! Spark on!

    Yep, morning workouts are great for waking up the body, and keeping in a good mood all day. You can always go light if pressed for time and do another workout later in the day. But yes, try to do morning workouts as often as you can. They always make you feel good afterward! emoticon

    Way to go!! I just love working out in the morning. Hope you live in a safe neighborhood and carry some sort of an "equalizer", just in case. Anyway, hope that you can repeat that energized experience again and again and again. Hang very tough!!

    I just don't know if I could get up that early and make it through the day...but I have been sticking to my goal of getting up earlier on the weekends and do you know what? Now my weekends seem to last a heck of alot longer....I wish I didn't enjoy sleeping or maybe laying up the warm covers so much...I just might have to make myself a Spark streak of getting up and running before work 2 or 3x one week and see how I fare...thanks for the inspiration!

    Aren't morning workouts incredible?!?!?!
I just finished breakfast after a 50 minute walk with Otto, 20 minutes on the recumbent bike, and my daily weight workout - and I feel great!!!
I have been doing this for so long now that I don't even use an alarm. I just wake up and get at it!!! Otto even knows when it is time for us to get outside. I guess dogs really are smart!!!

I have been setting my alarm all week to get up early and work out, but keep going back to sleep. Of course, my NORMAL wake up time is 4:30, so for me, that means the alarm goes off at 3:30. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get out of bed at 3:30?? LOL

You have motivated me though!! Tonight, I am going to bed early... and getting it done tomorrow morning. I got some good rest last night and a nap yesterday afternoon, so I'm not feeling as wiped out today as I have been for the last couple of weeks

Road Treasures and Starting at Square One

I was so lucky to be able to get outside on such a beautiful day to go for a run on my lunch hour. Sunny and 80 degrees, woo hoo. Great workout, you know you've done it right when you have shin sweat. emoticon

I have to say it is very frustrating having to start my running over from Square One. Since I injured myself back in November, it's been pretty sporadic - meaning the running. I've just started back with a regular routine of twice a week 2-3 miles at a time, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, but at least the pain is manageable and not as often and I've been doing a lot of stretching and icing to keep it healthy. Today was a good day, it was a Forest Gump day - one where I just wanted to keep on running, and running, and running. But, I was on a time clock so had to make it a short one. I am going for a run in the morning before work, just another test of the hip muscles. I'm hoping to run a 5K in May and then hopefully start training for a second half-marathon. That's my goal, so I'm hoping the hip will cooperate. Doctor says I have to increase my mileage slow, and boy do I hate slow, but I am following orders.

I usually find something on the road when I'm running, sometimes a penny, sometimes a quarter, sometimes stranger things like a barbie leg, lol. Today musta been my lucky day. Three of these babies, hahaha. It pays to run.

    Slow and steady wins the race? I'm not so fast, but I can go the distance -- like Forest Gump. I once thought about running across the USA (virtually of course). I may just have to put that on my bucket list.

Hope your run in the morning turns out great. I love getting out before all the cars stink up the air and listen to the birdies chirp and sing. So refreshing! Plus, you just feel dang good the rest of the day! emoticon

Great Fun/Food

Boy am I one lucky lady..I haven't had to cook dinner in four days, woo hoo.

Thursday: Went to Applebees to check out their newest DD. It was her first night being a server, she has worked as a hostess for about 5 months and moved up to server so we had to check her out (or harass/embarass her, lol - we did neither, she was actually glad we came in). Her boss came over to our table and told us what a lovely daughter we have, so nice to hear that others think she is as special as we do. Love ya KP.

Friday: My DD cooked cheese ravioli on Friday night, what a special treat to have her make her parents dinner - thanks.

Saturday: Congrats to our granddaughter for winning her basketball championship game, they played awesome and walked away with a huge trophy, enjoyed a quick lunch with the family. Got to watch my SIL play in the coaches bball game after lunch - way to go Danny - so glad you are great influence in the lives of so many kids, you're a great coach.

Sis and her BF (mostly her BF) cooked a yummy dinner, steamed shrimp with a grilled vegetable medley of red potatos, butternut squash, onions and brussels sprouts - oooh to die for, my new favorite is butternut squash. I have always liked yellow squash and spaghetti squash but was too afraid to experiment with acorn or butternut, but WOW oh WOW was the butternut delicious - lots of recipes in the SPARK Cookbook for butternut so I'm gonna give those a whirl.

Sunday: Mowed the lawn and stayed outside all day. Painted my old birdbath for fun, a great way to relax and enjoy the sunshine.

Sis's BF cheffed up another wonderful meal: crabmeat stuffed mushrooms (I tried one, but not a fan of mushrooms) and eggplant parmesan, and asparagus. I could easily just eat nothing but veggies when it's cooked to perfection. Thanks TD for some great kitchen creations.

Lots of leftover eggplant which means another yummy dinner this evening. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Missing that one hour of sleep we lost yesterday with the time change, uggghhh. Wishing you all a great week.

    Love the food porn! I slice the butternut squash thin, coat it in coconut oil, lay it in a single layer and cook it for about 30-40 minutes at 425. Sprinkle with sea salt, too. Yummy! Your bird bath is emoticon!!!

    So many delicious recipes! I love squash and like to pic a different one up every other week, my favorites of late are delicate, acorn and spaghetti. Butternut is great, it's the squash I grew up on. Wishing you a bountiful week of yummy meals!
