C L E A R A N C E.
S A L E.
I got some much needed retail therapy this past weekend, I certainly hit the jackpot. I went into Sears and every where I turned there was rack, after rack of C L E A R A N C E stuff, oh my gosh, where do I start? I didn't want to miss any good deals so I shopped for about an hour hitting all my favorite departments with a cart full of stuff to try on. I ended up leaving with $300 worth of clothes for $93.00. I think hubby was really happy about that especially since he was giving me the evil eye with all those clothes piled up in the cart, I think he was afraid I was going to buy them all, hee hee.
I got three pair of pants - brown, tan and gray - Size 6 woo hoo, 6 tops (there was even two of them that were "SMALLS", double woo hoo and two pair of totally wild shoes, and yes of course a pair is purple.
And of course it's all about the shoooooz.
I did manage to do all of my workouts this weekend so I didn't feel so bad hanging out at the mall all day. Friday a two mile walk and a round of P90X kenpo, then Saturday - a three-mile stroll. Yesterday was a rest day, but I really didn't rest.
Cooked dinner for the entire 11 of us, cheez-it chicken, mashed potatoes and I even introduced the family to my new favorite brussels sprouts and believe it or not, they were a big hit.
The week is starting off good with great eating today and I have developed my own strength training workouts since I am so bored with DVD's, so I have an arm/ab workout tonight, woo hoo. Waiting on some great weather this week to get some runs in, hoping the hip isn't cranky.

I have had this horrible pain in my hip and down the side of my leg since my half-marathon in November and have been nursing it for a quite a while. Sometimes it's ok when exercising, sometimes I can run without it bothering me and then there's other times where it's killing me so I've been doing some web surfing to see if I can find something to relieve and prevent this pain. I found this article to be very interesting and wanted to share.
My pain runs along that same blue line in the photo, hmmmm. And the white part is the IT band, hmmmmm.
Anyone out there suffer from a pain in the butt????? Advice, please.
I had planned a lunchtime run yesterday and was so anxious to do it, but it was raining, drats. Nothing like seeing a fool running in the rain with an umbrella, had the boss take a "pic as proof", lol. When my mind is made up, nothing stands in the way.
Happy weekend to all.

A whirlwind of weekend, lots of stress, emotional eating and just plain ole experiencing a lazy FUNK, I decided it was time to get back to what I need to do... focus on M E !!! The week has started off less than stellar fitness wise and even worse eating wise. I was craving a cheeseburger so bad on Monday, but I overcame that only to be attacked again on Tuesday with the same overwhelming craving, so I just gave in and had the burger for lunch, I even added a side of guilt (fries) with it also. And just to make sure I was good and miserable I had an ice cream sandwich for dessert after dinner last night, ok really I had two.
So what was is problem? I believe it's just human nature, overwhelmed with the speed of life sometimes, powerless to slow it down, roadblocks even. Every now and again you have to jump off the deep end to make sure you can still swim. No hanging out in the deep end allowed because eventually you will tire and get into trouble. I jumped into the deep end and safely made it back to the shallow end. I wanted my ongoing weekend pity party to come to and end, a new beginning of sorts, release the bad and usher in the new.
Last night I locked myself up in our den, with the lights off, no disturbances and decided to P90X yoga my way into a better mood, a release so to speak. I knew yoga would certainly help relieve some stress and I was hoping to stretch out that cranky ole IT band, it's been giving me a fit lately, and by fit I mean PAIN, bad PAIN in the hip. So after a hot, sweaty 95-minute Yoga workout: power vinyasas, balance poses, deep breathing.... I'm cured, like magic...POOF !!! stress be gone !!!!! Breathe in the good, breathe out the bad with a loud OOOOHHHHMMMMMM.
Mental clarity has returned - focus back on track. Today is a new day, tomorrow is safely in the past. Only good things are going to happen today, thanks SAMI.

I have spent the last three years focusing on dropping the weight, I still have 4 pounds I would like to lose, but I'm really more in the maintenance phase, trying to stay slim as not to undo all the hard work I've put into this journey. After reading a magazine article in Health Magazine (from my hoarder's collection of magazine articles, lol) I read this and decided it's now time to really focus on my mantra:
Getting buff NO E X C U S E S.
I've always done a little strength training here and there, I knew it was important, but did not fully realize why it's so important until I read this...
Cardio is not enough after you hit 35 and beyond, as we age our muscles naturally become weaker and if we don't actively strengthen them we lose both mass and force. When we work to build muscle, we will:
Improve balance, agility, flexibility and endurance
Prevent pain by reducing the amount of force on our joints [this will certainly come in handy for my running as my legs have felt like Jello jigglers lately and hoping to strengthen that darn cranky hip of mine]
Increase our metabolism, thus upping our daily calorie burn. [I know this one really excited me, anything I can do to torch more calories - count me in]
Super, fantastic, great reasons to strength train - now I need to get busy.
Feast your eyes on this:
Experimented in the kitchen last night with a homemade chicken pot pie, my first attempt - it got two thumbs up from the family. I love it when a plan works out. Only 300 calories per serving (serves 8) - I was thinking that maybe one serving wouldn't fill me up but it was all I could do to finish the one serving so it's definitely deliciously filling. This recipe is a KEEPER - I put my SPARK twist on it by using some healthier substitutions - used Neufchatel in place of cream cheese, fat-free chicken broth, skim milk in place of whole milk and skipped the cheese.
Happy Weekend !!!!!
