If It Floats....

Wednesday, March 07, 2012

If it floats, toss it. That's how to tell if an egg is fresh. Put it in a bowl of cold water, if it floats toss it. (Great tip from my magazine article collection)

I am known to experiment in the kitchen with new recipes. I found a healthy recipe for jalapeno poppers, it looked so yummy I could have eaten it right off the paper, lol. Well last night I finally got to try out this new recipe. Took me a while to prep everything and then I put those babies in the oven. I could almost taste them as they were cooking, ahhhhh the anticipation. They looked great when they came out of the oven, oooooh couldn't wait to take a bite, but had to wait for them to cool. Don't they look absolutely delicious?

The moment of truth....the taste test. Drum roll please........

Blahhhhecckkkk, YUCKO, I wanted to spit it out, yuck, yuck, yuck.

Imagine my disappointment. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I think it was the cornmeal coating, had to have been. Some things you just can't turn into a healthy recipe, you just have to have the fattening option. But my option last night was.... TOSS IT in the trash - not fit for human consumption.

Lesson learned: just cuz you see it in a magazine doesn't mean it's delicious, lol, it was an experience.

I guess those poppers just weren't meant to be! emoticon

Oh no!!! And they look so GOOD... Sigh... I guess some things were just meant to be full fat (not me, of course!).

I wonder what would happen if I cut a light string cheese into thirds and broiled them in a halved jalapeno?? Diet people problems... emoticon

Two Words Can Drive Me into a FRENZY ?????

C L E A R A N C E.
S A L E.

I got some much needed retail therapy this past weekend, I certainly hit the jackpot. I went into Sears and every where I turned there was rack, after rack of C L E A R A N C E stuff, oh my gosh, where do I start? I didn't want to miss any good deals so I shopped for about an hour hitting all my favorite departments with a cart full of stuff to try on. I ended up leaving with $300 worth of clothes for $93.00. I think hubby was really happy about that especially since he was giving me the evil eye with all those clothes piled up in the cart, I think he was afraid I was going to buy them all, hee hee.

I got three pair of pants - brown, tan and gray - Size 6 woo hoo, 6 tops (there was even two of them that were "SMALLS", double woo hoo and two pair of totally wild shoes, and yes of course a pair is purple.

And of course it's all about the shoooooz.

I did manage to do all of my workouts this weekend so I didn't feel so bad hanging out at the mall all day. Friday a two mile walk and a round of P90X kenpo, then Saturday - a three-mile stroll. Yesterday was a rest day, but I really didn't rest.

Cooked dinner for the entire 11 of us, cheez-it chicken, mashed potatoes and I even introduced the family to my new favorite brussels sprouts and believe it or not, they were a big hit.

The week is starting off good with great eating today and I have developed my own strength training workouts since I am so bored with DVD's, so I have an arm/ab workout tonight, woo hoo. Waiting on some great weather this week to get some runs in, hoping the hip isn't cranky.

Up Close and Personal....The Buttocks

Thursday, March 01, 2012

I have had this horrible pain in my hip and down the side of my leg since my half-marathon in November and have been nursing it for a quite a while. Sometimes it's ok when exercising, sometimes I can run without it bothering me and then there's other times where it's killing me so I've been doing some web surfing to see if I can find something to relieve and prevent this pain. I found this article to be very interesting and wanted to share.

My pain runs along that same blue line in the photo, hmmmm. And the white part is the IT band, hmmmmm.

Anyone out there suffer from a pain in the butt????? Advice, please.

I had planned a lunchtime run yesterday and was so anxious to do it, but it was raining, drats. Nothing like seeing a fool running in the rain with an umbrella, had the boss take a "pic as proof", lol. When my mind is made up, nothing stands in the way.

Happy weekend to all.

My husband gets similar pain when his back is getting ready to go out so he gets on the inversion table. He swears by the chiropractor, but that gets expensive. He uses the inversion table as the step before the chiropractor and it has helped him avoid the chiropractor several times.

Ugh IT band tightness. Most common and recurrent enemy to a runner! Last year it caused soreness above my right knee. For the last two months I have had it wrapping around the "corner" my left hip and half-way down my leg. Do you have a foam roller? If not get one. It will save you a bunch of money on PT and massages! As long as I roll at least after my long runs, I stay in good shape with no IT band aches.

I feel your pain! I've had butt/hip/leg pain for over a year. The DR took x-rays to get a baseline (there is a history of arthritis in the family) and did not find anything helpful. He wrote me a script for a PT and I finally went last week. After poking and prodding me for about an hour the PT decided that it was a back problem, which made sense the way she explained it. To make a long story, I have my third appointment today. It is still bothering me but mostly now it's a pain right below my waist. I've stopped all but her exercises.....we'll see how it goes.

For about a year I had a pain in the butt - I think maybe priformis - but it never really prevented me from doing anything; it was just there. And then one day it just disappeared.

Knee pain comes & goes for me . . . why is it some thing we enjoy so much can be such a literal pain in the butt? I hope you find some answers soon.

I have this same pain and go to the chiropractor for it. My lower vertebrae keeps snapping out of place. I am working on strengthening to get it to stay. Have you seen a chiropractor? It wouldn't hurt. :) Good luck to you.

Inner Peace

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

A whirlwind of weekend, lots of stress, emotional eating and just plain ole experiencing a lazy FUNK, I decided it was time to get back to what I need to do... focus on M E !!! The week has started off less than stellar fitness wise and even worse eating wise. I was craving a cheeseburger so bad on Monday, but I overcame that only to be attacked again on Tuesday with the same overwhelming craving, so I just gave in and had the burger for lunch, I even added a side of guilt (fries) with it also. And just to make sure I was good and miserable I had an ice cream sandwich for dessert after dinner last night, ok really I had two.

So what was is problem? I believe it's just human nature, overwhelmed with the speed of life sometimes, powerless to slow it down, roadblocks even. Every now and again you have to jump off the deep end to make sure you can still swim. No hanging out in the deep end allowed because eventually you will tire and get into trouble. I jumped into the deep end and safely made it back to the shallow end. I wanted my ongoing weekend pity party to come to and end, a new beginning of sorts, release the bad and usher in the new.

Last night I locked myself up in our den, with the lights off, no disturbances and decided to P90X yoga my way into a better mood, a release so to speak. I knew yoga would certainly help relieve some stress and I was hoping to stretch out that cranky ole IT band, it's been giving me a fit lately, and by fit I mean PAIN, bad PAIN in the hip. So after a hot, sweaty 95-minute Yoga workout: power vinyasas, balance poses, deep breathing.... I'm cured, like magic...POOF !!! stress be gone !!!!! Breathe in the good, breathe out the bad with a loud OOOOHHHHMMMMMM.

Mental clarity has returned - focus back on track. Today is a new day, tomorrow is safely in the past. Only good things are going to happen today, thanks SAMI.

I like what you had to say about jumping in the deep end just to make sure you can still swim. We'll all have bad days (you just read my blog and know I'm having one right now..LOL). It's all in how we overcome them, right? Leave it to Tony to blast away a funk with P90X Yoga (swing it through to runners pose...50 million times!).
So glad you're feeling better. DO you think your body was craving that burger for a reason? I don't know, they say your body craves things when it is lacking something.
