Make Someone's Day

Thursday, January 12, 2012

My status today is....Make someone's day, perform a random act of kindness.

This all stemmed from something I read yesterday. It applies to everyone, most importantly I feel that it fits in with SPARK in so many ways.

"Once in a while, no matter what age you are, a person needs to hear someone is proud of them."

A word of encouragement doesn't cost a thing to give, but can be priceless to the recipient.

So, so true. Let your family, friends and fellow SPARKERS know you are proud of them, don't delay, do it today, you never know who needs to hear it, yourself included. I promise, you won't regret it.

Great thoughts! I try to walk this talk now & then...could probably do better than I do, but hey it's a win-win: you feel better and so does the other person! :-)

...and thank YOU for the SparkGoodie and kind thoughts!

Off to the Fitness Center on this drippy, sleety yucky night! I *HAVE* enjoyed resuming Spinning Classes on Saturdays, too!

    So Oprah and so true:)

In Sydney a few years ago we used to have to hand over $1 as a toll to one of those lovely souls in the booths who somehow keep a smile on their face all day.

People started to pay for the person behind them as well and it became so popular it was making the news. It really was such a feel good story because people we doing random acts of kindness for complete strangers which gave the city such a nice buzz for awhile.

Your right and I sometimes forget how important it is:)

Stress Less

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

I'm dishing out the good info... again. Small doses, a spoonful at a time. It's easier to digest and remember. Whatever makes it stick.

Tip: When you are stressed out, put down the doughnut and pick up your pet. Stroking is repetitive and relaxing.

emoticonTip: Get up 15 minutes early. Morning mishaps are LESS likely when you have time to spare (looking for lost keys, etc.)

emoticonThis one is definitely a pet peeve of mine...waiting at the doctor's office, SHEESH emoticon, how many times do we sit there stewing while our time is being wasted sitting there. Tip: Try for the first appointment of the day and you'll spend less time waiting.

It's the little things that count.

Awe look at Harley - he is getting so big.
I am going to try that tonight with Solomon - when I am stressed and wanted to pick up food I will pet him. I am certain he will appreciate it.

My pet was hit by a car on Thanksgiving. It is a treeing walker hound. He suffered two broken legs and had to have surgery. They installed plates and pins. His road to recovery is not an easy one. Yet, here he is, one leg on the front side and a rear leg on the opposite side of his body... Is he giving up? No. I see him struggle forward on a daily basis. It is a visual that tells you-hey..if he can do this, then, you can truly accomplish what you want if you just give it the effort. So when I get stressed, I look at him and see that I can.. Don't worry and stress.. I just do what is needed for me to move forward. emoticon

A few short weight loss tips I saw in a magazine for your reading/sharing pleasure - So short, simple and easy to remember.

emoticonCut 100 calories at lunch - trade in a sub roll for whole-wheat tortilla or macaroni salad for coleslaw.

Skip using food as entertainment. Treat yourself to a round of mini-golf instead of going to the ice cream shop.
emoticon vs. emoticon

emoticonMove your workout outdoors in cooler weather. You burn MORE calories walking outside when it's below 50 degrees. Chilly but true, so bundle up.

Love to all. Keep on SPARKING. emoticon

I did not know that about the cooler weather. I don't like the cooler weather cause I don't feel like I sweat as much. I'm the type that feels like the more I sweat, the better the workout.

Love the tips...another one is lower your heat in the house...you get the same results and save on the heating bill too. Of course its just me and my furry kids so I dont hear complaints from anyone about the temp and get the benefits during my exercise too. Only lost a lb this week, but imagine if I hadnt done all that biking. I will need to be more mindful of my calories...starting today! Thanks for your continued support and inspiration!

The Great Babysitting Adventure

Monday, January 09, 2012

It was a great weekend, my grandson got to spend his very first overnight with the DH and I. WOW, I had forgotten how labor intensive babies are, lol. No really, I enjoyed being able to spend quality time with my boy, he's so precious. He's just a little over three months old and at the smiling and cooing stages, all I wanted to do was make him laugh and smile.

He had so much fun, he fell asleep, hee hee.

Spent all day yesterday watching football at our friends house. I know I've mentioned before that our friend Maria is an excellent cook and is Filipino. We just love all the filipino favorites she cooks up, but I asked her to please don't cook a lot this weekend. Well she was so sweet to make this wonderful plate of snacks for us, with me in mind. She made the chicken salad with fat-free sour cream and skim ricotta cheese in place of mayonnaise; cheese and crackers; and included two types of delicious grapes. I thought that was the sweetest thing, to amend her recipes and cooking style just for me. She knows I'm watching my calories. YEAH, the SPARK has been spread once again.

Too bad our Steelers lost yesterday, but as a great spirited football fan I have to admit they surely didn't play like they wanted to win, thus my congrats go out to the Broncos. There's always next season. I just love football period, gonna go thru a depression here real shortly after the super bowl, I think football should be a year round sport to keep the football fanatics like me happy.

Gonna be a great week, a new workout planned. I will share with you once I complete it, but for now it's top secret. Hope everyone has a great week.

OH MY you got Maria in a Steelers Jersey..Hee Hee Hee - But I do see she was sporting the Giants Hat. I bet she's real happy about coming up to Green Bay to play us. Looks like you guys had fun. All the pictures are great.
He is so cute with his little cleft. Gonna be a lady killer.
That was really nice that Maria made a plate for you. I am going to have to remember the whole sour cream and ricotta thing in place of the mayo. Been looking for something other than plain yogurt because I don't like the yogurt as a replacement. Thanks for sharing.

Grand parenting is the bomb. That should surely balance the Steeler loss. I don't like the way the NFL handles the O.T. It seems to me a win should not be based on winning the coin toss!

Thanks for your well wishes on my blog. I am inspired by reading your page. My, my, my that grandson is getting a fit, healthy, and trim grandma. Awesome.
