New Year Resolutions

Saturday, January 01, 2011

This is going to be my best year ever! First, I will work on the Gift of the Spirit, JOY. I have found joy at Genesis Club with many new friends and meaningful work. I will endeavor to spread that JOY throughout my life bringing it to everyone I meet. Second, I will become more confident, promising not to sabotage myself with negative self-talk. Finally, my Spark Goal is to run in the Falmouth Road Race this August, an eight mile run along the Cape Cod shoreline! emoticon

Joining the YMCA

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

I am excited about joining the YMCA because it is so hard for me to exercise in the cold! I am hoping that the atmosphere and camaraderie of the gym will spur me on to lose the last 20 pounds of my goal. I haven't gained weight this fall but I haven't lost much either. I really need to get back on my exercise routine to push through this barrier. Wish me luck!!

Good luck with your new adventure. I have thought about joining the new one here, but the fees are to high for me - so I will just keep using my Stepper! Happy Holidays...

Spreading the Spark

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Last night I had a public presentation for work with a captive audience of 40 people. I was able to spread the Spark and give out cards about Sparkpeople.com.
I love this community and the great support I have found here and I wanted to share it with others to encourage them on their weight loss journey.

    Hi there, Awesome Lady!

I just now read your April blog about your friend, and decided to read some of your other blogs. I am so sorry for your loss, and how blessed you are to have had her in your life. May the many memories of your dear friend keep her in your heart always.

It looks like you are continuing to strive for your goals, and you have "Sparked" my own progress to meeting my goals. It makes a difference for me in my own attitude when I read inspiring blogs or comments from you and other Spark members. Thank you for renewing my Spark, and now I am off to make a healthy breakfast and get in some strength training (something I have neglected).

All the best to you, and I look forward to your future blogs.

Hugs,
Janet
>P.S. I am 57, and each day is a precious opportunity for me to make changes in my life. Thank you again for the reminders! emoticon

3 Months Later, Under 200 pounds

Monday, June 21, 2010

3 months following my dear friend's death due to a heart attack, I have slipped under the 200 pound mark!!! I started at 237lbs in January and it was very slow progress for the past two weeks where each day the scale balanced at 201 lbs. This morning the scale read a firm 199 lbs and I am ecstatic! My Great Dane and I have been putting on the miles enjoying our time together on the beaten path. I attribute my recent loss to a discovery that I am allergic to gluten! The wheat allergy had actually held my body hostage to belly fat. Thanks to the books "The Spark" and "The UltraMind Solution" for showing me how to break through the plateau. And thanks to all of my Spark Friends who have helped me so much on this journey!

Good for you in breaking the 200 lbs barrier!! I know it is a struggle a a lot of hard work but it is rewarding. I to have lost weight since January, 51 lbs. I have been on a plateau for the past 3 weeks and have to put in the extra effort to get off by changing my exercise program.
My wife buys a lot of Gluten free products but has to be careful since most of them are higher in calories especially the bread replacements. I suggest for tax purposes if you by special foods for Gluten save your receipts, the difference is deductible.

My wife had to eat gluten free. Since I do all the cooking I use a lot of rice flour to replace regular flour. I read labels and it is suprising some foods you would not connect with wheat has wheat. Even some chocolates.
