Hmm - a single trouble goal

Saturday, October 17, 2009

I'm supposed to post about a single trouble goal that's setting me back. I know I've started slacking off on my nutrition tracking so maybe I'll start there.

We have a lot of snacks at work. I usually indulge even though my co-workers try to be good about bringing in fruit and veggie trays as well as chips and dip. The other day a co-worker brought in a dessert and I had a piece about 1/4 the size I normally would have. Even then I could feel the sugar hitting me. So I guess I've improved but there will have to be more improvement.

The other problem with work treats is I don't have a scale or measuring cups there, and often the things don't have nutritional information. I then get discouraged about tracking because I feel like it won't be accurate anyways.

Also, yesterday I didn't eat a single piece of fruit. I'm mostly vegetarian so I usually assume I'm getting enough fruits and vegetables but now I realize that's not true.

So, I think my plan is going to be to bring tinned fruit into the office. It's not as healthy as fresh fruit, but it's more of a treat and it will get me started in the right direction. Then I'm going to have whole grain tortilla chips and salsa for an afternoon snack. It's only a tiny bit healthier than other chips, but I think I'll be able to stick to it whereas my previous, healthier snacks just caused me to cheat. Hopefully then it will also make tracking easier, so I'll stick to that more.

In other news, I've started exercising again. I moved to the treadmill from outdoor runs, and I don't miss the outside runs too much. I also added 10 more lbs to my bench press and I love feeling my muscles work.

That's a great plan! You take in items that will help you stick with what you can track accurately, and that won't make you want to eat the other things. Even if what you have isn't THE MOST healthy choice, it's a BETTER choice than the untrackables! It puts you back in control, and you can always find new and better things to take in with you as you learn what works for you.

Well truthfully,

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

This blog entry is just to get me some more spark points. But, I guess if it gets me posting, that's something.

I am at the point where I realize I really miss exercising, but I'm not sure I'm at the point where I'm going to start up again. We have a bit of snow now, so I'm thinking of trading the outdoor runs for the treadmill. But I love running outside so much and snow shouldn't be here yet.

Anyways, I guess I'll try the treadmill tomorrow. I still have to walk the dog on off days, so I'll still get out a bit.

Tight jeans with muffin top

Sunday, October 11, 2009

Well, I ran out of clean laundry, and came across a pair of too-tight jeans I thought I had given away. Just to see, I tried them on and was able to do them up easily, with a muffin top over top. When I bought them, I was able to do them up using all my strength and then in addition to the fat, I think some organs were hanging over the top too. It was a great feeling, because the rest of my clothes I can't really remember how tight they were.

Yesterday I dropped a log on my toe. It is keeping me on the couch. It's a little depressing but when I read the article on exercising with a cold or flu the author said remember this is a life long change for a healthier lifestyle so a few days off won't hurt you and it made me feel a lot better. Yes - healthier habits for life.

I hope your foot feels better. I never dropped a log on my foot but had a terrible ankle incident. Don't fret...think of other things that you can do that doesn't require you to walk or stand. Cardio may be out of the question but for example...sit ups, leg lifts, biceps and shoulders are all 'do-able'. And I definitely know about the muffin top. I too still have it in some pants. One day we'll be free of the 'busted biscuit' syndrome and look awesome! At least that is what I keep telling myself. I'm glad to hear you are well on your way. emoticon

I love it! I, too, seem to have a muffin top that lops over everything. I don't know if I will ever get rid of it, no matter how much weight I lose. As long as I wear a big top to cover the muffin, I look pretty good, but let me put on a tight top and I look like I am wearing a life-preserver under my clothes. I feel better knowing that I am in good company! Thanks for making me smile.

I hope your foot is better. It is really hard to exercise when you can hardly walk. (It's hard enough when you CAN walk. LOL!)

It's great when you see results. Congrats.
I read that you drop a log on you foot , and I thought that was an odd statement because I did the same last summer and never really heard of anyone doing the same. Not sure what you "log" was, but mine was several hundred pound log for the log house we are building. I hope you foot will be better soon.

Rewards

Sunday, October 04, 2009

After a few days of overeating but not thinking too much of it because I'm not over eating by that much I realized I have to get serious about staying in my calorie range. SP had yet another article about rewards, and I happened to have a gardening catalogue that I was waiting to browse. I decided that I can have $25 for each day that I stay in my calorie range to spend on gardening supplies.

Well, yesterday was the first day. I ate my healthy food, then we were going next door to play games. I budgeted for vodka and soda, and then I knew I had hardly any room left. After drinking and playing games for a couple hours, I was feeling tired and hungry, and that's when our hosts put out snacks. It was soooo hard, but I managed to stay away from all but the veggies and I stayed in my range. I was very proud of myself and I think this reward system just might work. My supersweet husband is going to add $5 every day to support me.

Today was easier because we slept in so sort of missed a meal, and I am really looking forward to ordering some expensive plants!

That sounds awesome. Good reward system. I should get my partner to say I can spend $25 on books everyday I stay within the limits :D

By Jove I think I've got it

Friday, October 02, 2009

I had a super busy week this week, after a pretty busy month. I would have been completely justified in laying off the exercise but I didn't want to! On Wednesday I had to go into work early to catch up, but instead of skipping, I got up at 4:30 so that I could jog before going in! Because I felt like it! I actually enjoy my morning run now! I only got about 5 hours of sleep last night so I was feeling pretty crappy this morning and it was raining, but I went on a shorter route and just did more walking than I normally do. I absolutely loved being out in the rain!

In other news, I'm not going down down in the pounds but I look like I lost a lot more than six pounds and although I have many "cheating" days, I generally get back on track. I sort of can't believe it, but it feels awesome!
