Confession time!!!

Sunday, April 03, 2011

So I haven't made a blog post in a while. I guess it is mainly because I haven't been doing as well as I was doing last year. It is now confession time. I have gained over 10 lbs and have not changed my weight on the site due to embarrassment. I am still doing my daily exercise but my food has gotten out of control. I stopped tracking when I hit my goal weight. I have found that my quantities have gone up and I have been eating things that I had previously eliminated from my diet. I am now taking the stand that I want to recommit to my health plan.
I have signed up for my first century ride on May 1st. I am eliminating all alcohol from my diet between now and my ride. I am also going to change my actual weight on this site and start tracking my food again. Any support is welcomed.

There is no way you are almost 60. You look like you're in your 30s. Seriously. Just shows how taking care of yourself can really pay off. Thank you for being such an inspiration.

You are an inspiration for me. I have about the same amount of total wt to lose that you did and if I can look as GREAT as you that will be awesome! I live in Iowa where the weather is limited from Apil to Sept. My goal is 500 miles this summer. I have added you as a friend for inspiration!!

I finished my first century on May 1st. My husband and I rode the Wildflower Century in Chico, CA in 7 hours 35 minutes. 2 major climbs (by my standard). I am now on my way to completing my goal of riding 6000 miles by my 60th birthday. I have about 520 miles left and my birthday is on August 27th.

Drink lots of water in the days leading up to it.

Glad you came back. Don't feel guilty or be embarrassed. I think 99% of Sparkers have been yo-yo-ing for years. I know that if I quit tracking and being honest with my portions, I would also have gained back at least part of what I lost - some of us need that, and some don't. You have taken the steps to get back on track - persistence is what leads to success! Hang in there!

Overwhelmed-but still on track

Monday, January 24, 2011

In November, I went from being unemployed to working 8-10 hours a day - 7 days a week. This is only a "temporary" project that I am doing but my life as a fitness trainer has been totally put on hold. I've noticed that the harder I work, the more I eat and less I have time to exercise. Luckily, I have an agreement with my employer that my exercise has priority in my life. I still go the the gym and work out daily, take 3 spin classes a week and even get in an occasional bike ride or ski trip.
I think I have gained between 5-10 pounds in the last 3 months - probably from sitting at the computer so much. Also, the holidays were somewhat stressful (but fun). Lots of eating and drinking.
Now, it is time to starting planning 2011. I have several goals this year. 1. I will complete my goal to ride 6000 miles by my 60th birthday (coming up in August). I have 2727 miles to go. I will also ride my first century ride on May 1st. Plus, no matter what - I will do some sort of exercise every day for at least 60 minutes a day. Today makes 24 days out of 24 days that I have met my 3rd goal.

Know what ya mean about the work. When college is out or on break. I can exercise like a champion. Then the seesions start, teaqching kicks in, I am busier than ever in class and keeping up outside of class.

It takes extra effort for sure to keep up with the needed exercise!

Goal

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

I can't believe that I did not blog about hitting my goal. I guess I must have just posted on Facebook. Anyway, not only did I hit 3000 miles for the year on October 27th, I added almost another 200 miles since then. I am on my way to my next goal of 6000 by my 60th birthday which will be next August.

I am currently "on vacation" visiting my daughter in So. California. I took off a day of exercise to travel from Reno to LA but immediately signed up at a studio to do spin classes while I'm here in LA. If I am not doing some sort of exercise every day, I find myself falling back into old habits, like eating too much.

I've noticed that I have to keep my attention on my life goal, which is to stay healthy and fit. I can't let distractions like unhealthy food, alcohol and other vices get in my way. I will indulge in these vices occasionally but just have to remember to take each day at a time and keep my eye on the ultimate goal.

emoticon emoticonKeep it up! I joined a gym last week-hoping to lose weight and to feel good. So, far so good. I am doing a weight loss study there. I hope in about 5 weeks to report great things. They weigh and measure every 6 weeks. Woohoo! Feeling good!

Going for the goal!

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

So it looks like I will hit my 3000 mile goal for 2010 after all. I really thought I wouldn't make it because of the broken arm. I'm feeling so much better and really wanted to get back on the bike. Anyway, against all odds (and doctor's orders), it looks like I will hit 3000 miles by the end of October. I let my Physical Therapist know that I was getting back on the bike and he told me that it was OK with him as long as I didn't fall. The arm is healing really well and I have about 80% of total usage.

Sounds like you're pulling through this safely...whew! I sure didn't want to see you sidelined by any more troubles...!

I've never bothered to track the number of miles I've biked over time. Just per each ride. Don't know if I could get that detailed to keep up such record-keeping...lol!

I just know that this past cycling season was an awesome one for me...nailing a century ride and just pouring it on all around...stronger on my hill climbing, faster when I want to be. It's been great to have positive feedback from my fellow bike club members!

Keep those wheels SPARKIN'! :-)

Back on the bike - again.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

OK so I got back on the bike this week and have gone another 88 miles in 3 days. I haven't got an official doctor release yet but I am feeling so much better and the cycling does not hurt my arm at all. I'm being very careful and have limited my rides to under 3 hours each. I'm not sure if I will hit my 3000 mile goal this year - it all depends on the weather. I am not going to push myself to hard because of the possibility of re-injuring the arm in another fall.

I was in Idaho just over a week ago at the memorial service for my mother. It was a great time visiting with all the family. However, there was so much food that I don't normally eat any more and I overindulged. I gained about 5 lbs. in only 4 days. Now I am working extra hard to get the weight back off. Cycling seems to be the only thing that really burns the calories for me - along with going back to eating healthy.
