They're here!

Saturday, August 15, 2009

The students are here. Today is the beginning of orientation. I've been way too busy. I worked some this morning and I'll have to go in for a while tonight too. I'll be glad when this is over. So far, things are going well at work and that is encouraging.

We didn't have to mow my mother's yard this morning. It hasn't rained as much, so we can mow every two weeks. The geranium that my father gave me that almost died last spring is blooming now. That made me really happy! The geranium was really special because my father rooted it for me and brought it to me.

I'm looking forward to the new TV season. TV helps to relax me.

I haven't been getting much "official" exercise, but I've been walking around campus quite a bit and going up and down stairs too.

I have an African Violet that my mom potted for me when we got married 37 years ago. My son knocked it off the buffet eight or nine years ago, and I was only able to save a little piece of it. It's hale and hardy and blooming on my kitchen cabinet. I also have a Accacia Palm that came out of a planter that was sent to Arn when he was in the hospital in '77. It was about 3" tall. It's now about 4 ' tall and 32 years old! But by far my oldest plant is one my mom brought back with her from my aunt in Ohio probably 45 years ago. I couldn't bare to get rid of it when she died. I'm not even sure what it is. I thought it was a Wandering Jew, but a couple people have said it's not, so I have no clue. So I'm sentimental about plants, too!

Getting ready for the students to come back...

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

It is a little exciting at work getting ready for the students to come back. I have been so overwhelmed. I'm happy to be catching up a little. So far, we haven't needed to call the programmer who used to handle my school. I have been able to take care of the school's needs by myself. Next week will be exciting with registration starting. I have to go to work on Saturday evening. Bummer! My boss is speaking to the freshwomen and their parents and he wants his staff there...

We had chinese for dinner. I had pea pods and chicken and egg drop soup. Mmmmm....

awesome that they haven't had to call your predecessor! That means you're the Woman in Charge! Woohoo!

I think you'll find Sat evening interesting to offset the fact that it's Sat evening... :-)
Once in a while is no biggie, eh!

Mmmm, chinese food -- love it! I am sorry you have to work Saturday night but it is exciting to see the beginning of a new school year. I guess the peace and quiet of summer is ok for a while, but I too like it when things are busier. It is much the same in the "church business" -- everyone travels during the summer, including staff, and the office can be awfully quiet at times. I will be glad when we are into the fall/school season and things pick up a bit. I'll be thinking of you exercising tonight---you go!

Congested

Monday, August 10, 2009

I don't know if I have allergies or a cold yet, but I am CONGESTED! My son's girlfriend was feeling bad on Saturday night and I was around her. Oh well. I have been eating the healthy foods that I prepared on Saturday and now I'm on fiber overload. I stayed within my calories for the last few days, though. Yay! For a few days, I was eating too much and that always worries me.

I put on the Kiss glue-on toenails again yesterday and they look so pretty! I noticed that one toe was missing a nail tonight, so I glued on another one. My husband wondered why there were extra nails in the package. Maybe that's part of the reason!

I accomplished a lot at work today. Things are starting to be a little under control. After the start of school next week, maybe things will calm down a little.

It was a wonderful weekend!

Sunday, August 09, 2009

I had such a wonderful weekend. On Friday night, we visited a cousin in the hospital. She was recovering very well. On Saturday, we mowed my mother's yard. On Saturday evening, we had family dinner at my mother-in-law's and all of the family came. The feud between the brothers is over! I am so relieved.

Today, my husband and I played computer games and relaxed. I have cooked a lot today, too. For breakfast I made breakfast "bowls" with grits, healthy hash browns, egg whites, 2% shredded cheese, and bacon. For lunch, I made spaghetti sauce with Jennie-O turkey meatballs. I had my sauce with Fiber Gourmet fettuccine and my husband had his with tortellini. For dinner, I made Southwestern Surprise soup from the first Hungry Girl cookbook. I will pack the soup to take this week for lunch. We will eat well for a few days...

Tired

Saturday, August 08, 2009

I had an exhausting week. I would really like my job if I wasn't so overwhelmed and pressured. Maybe after school starts, things will settle down.

Last night, we visited my husband's cousin in the hospital. She is only 51 and had 1/3 of her kidney removed. It was cancerous. She had colon cancer when she was 42. I am praying for her to recover fully.

We stayed up really late last night and then got up early to mow my mother's yard. I am so tired. I might take a nap!

There sure have been a lot of folks this year battling cancer. I pray that removing part of her kidney will help. I didn't know they could do that! Hugs, Calen~

I have been tired the last month or so too. We had our son home from Kuwait. He is working over there as a civilian and of course all of the relatives wanted to see him too. We also celebrated out 50 anniversary early as long as he was home too. So alot of celebrating going on in one month...tired Merri
