a belated Merry Christmas!

Wednesday, December 26, 2007

Merry Christmas! I hope that you all had a wonderful and very special holiday. I was so busy with my family that I had no online time! I cooked dinner on Christmas Eve, breakfast on Christmas morning, and contributed to Christmas dinner as well. I look forward to having more online time with everyone now because I got a laptop for Christmas!

Our Christmas celebration was wonderful except that my father wasn't feeling well and we didn't get to spend time with him. I hope that he will be feeling better this weekend so that I can visit. He didn't feel like company yesterday. However, my mother and my husband's mother were both there for Christmas breakfast and they got to see our kids open their presents (LOL! - the "kids" are 18, 19, and 21) including my son's girlfriend. The holiday wasn't as sad as I had feared with my husband's family. We remembered and talked about my father-in-law and I gave everyone their scrapbooks of him. We started helping my mother-in-law to set up her new bedroom downstairs. She is excited about it and this will really help her to adjust to being single. She has been sleeping in a recliner since August even through she has 3 nice bedrooms upstairs.

We gave my sons laptops and items on their Christmas lists. My older son got a laptop and everything needed to complete his trailer hitch. He also got a nice rechargeable Mag light and money. My younger son got a Mini Mac and a Dell laptop. My husband and I got laptops and of course, we enjoyed our trip to Pigeon Forge last week. My sons surprised me with a digital picture frame. It is awesome!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Glad to hear you had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was nice too. ...... LOL, I gotta say, I sure wish I was one of your sons right now - I could use one of those laptops. haha .... Still struggling with the computer situations at home -- so still going through withdraws from my online time at home. ;)

Missed you all!

Sunday, December 23, 2007

I am back from vacation! I missed you all.

My husband and I went to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for a few days alone. It was wonderful to be away from all the kids and pets. The cabin we rented was called Animal House, but home is Animal House. We have our sons and their friends and girlfriends in and out all the time. The pets demand attention. There is always something going on. My husband and I had a great time despite his having a bad cold. We ate out, watched movies, and I made two scrapbooks for Christmas gifts.

On Sunday when we were on our way to Tennessee, our older son called to say that two trees had fallen in our dog's pen and broken the side all the way down. Luckily, our dog was ok. After a few stressful phone calls, our son nailed a tarp over the hole and put one of the trees on the bottom. That is enough to secure the pen since our dog can't walk very well and wouldn't be able to climb out.

On Tuesday, our younger son sent a series of text messages to say that he was sick and throwing up. We texted back and forth about treating his illness and his calling in to work. That was stressful too, but fortunately, he was fine.

We are almost ready for Christmas! I am preparing a recipe gift bag for my mother with my pancake recipe and ingredients. I need to spruce up my older son's girlfriend's gift. I want her gift to be pretty. I need to walk our dog. Tomorrow, I will do the Christmas baking and clean the floor and vacuum. We had breakfast with my parents this morning and after a long discussion, they agreed to come to our house for Christmas Breakfast. They don't really want us coming to their house and that is fine. They didn't decorate for Christmas. They often don't. We picked up the Honey Baked turkey this morning for our Christmas dinner. I sampled some of it on my salad and it was delicious!

I missed you all and I'm looking forward to catching up on your blogs...

Welcome back! I think everyone has beed missing lately, myself included. I can't believe how crazy busy this holiday season can get! It sounds like you got some great time alone with the hubby. That's always so much fun. Your gifts sound so personal. I strive for that. That's my favorite part about Christmas, giving people the things I think that will make them really happy. My dream xmas would be where everyone just made everyone xmas presents. Some of my extended family wouldn't appreciate that as much as I would. Anyways, hope you have a wonderful holiday!

Christmas Vacation - Day 1

Friday, December 14, 2007

Day 1 was wonderful. I tried to sleep a little later than my usual 6:30am. But, my husband woke me up a little after 7:00am to ask me if our younger son should be awake for school. I went to my son's door and asked him and he said that he was getting up in 10 minutes. My younger son had exams today and turned in a paper. I think that he only has one exam left on Monday!

One of our sons' friends was asleep on the couch in the living room, so I tried to be quiet as I prepared my daily Vitatop Oatmeal Pancake. Then, I walked our dog and took a shower. I went to get my hair cut first. I went to Great Clips and only had to wait about 15 minutes. I was happy with that and also with my haircut. Next, I went to Michael's Crafts. Adhesive was on sale at 40% off, so I stocked up. Then, I went to Barnes and Noble. It is a brand new store and very nice. I don't know my way around yet, so all I bought was a nonfat Ginger Latte. Later in the day, I found the Cedar Cove series of paperbacks by Debbie Macomber and bought them. I read the last book in the series and was very interested, so I look forward to getting the other books and reading them in order. My final stop was WalMart. I bought dog food, cat food, a couple of Christmas paperback books, groceries, and a 12" Lodge cast iron frying pan for preparing dinner.

When I got home, my older son and the friend who slept on the couch were just leaving. Yes! I could clean the carpet. So, I changed into my workout clothing and got started. I used the Resolve Heavy Traffic cleaner. I vacuumed each room, applied the cleaner, scrubbed the carpet with a mop and then waited for it to dry so that I could vaccum again. I did the living room, upstairs hallway, stairs, and bedroom. The carpet looks much better! I had quite a workout moving the furniture around.

I made Almond Breeze egg nog this afternoon. It was great! I used 5 cups of Almond Breeze, a 4 serving pack of sugar free fat free pudding mix, 1 teaspoon rum flavoring, and 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg. I really liked it, so I am going to buy more rum flavoring so that I can make more. For some reason, Almond Breeze really fills me up. At 40 calories per cup, it is awesome and satisfies my milk cravings. There is just one rule: don't drink it plain; use it in a recipe!

For dinner, I made a Pampered Chef recipe, Cornbread Chili Skillet. I learned my lesson about using spices, though. I have ruined several Pampered Chef recipes with the wrong spices or too much of a spice, so I skipped the Cajun seasoning called for in the recipe and used chili seasoning instead. My husband, mother-in-law, older son, and girlfriend ate dinner with us. It was nice and everyone seemed to like the recipe. They must have liked it. They certainly ate a lot of it!

Last day of work before Christmas!

Thursday, December 13, 2007

I raked leaves and swept acorns off the driveway for my exercise this morning. I loved being outside. It is a cloudy day, but beautiful. My vacation from work starts tomorrow. Even though I won't be gone the whole time, just having extra time will be so nice. I may clean the carpet tomorrow.

I have really been enjoying Christmas movies and decorations. Our house is decorated extensively outdoors and several neighbors have commented on how much they enjoy it. One of our neighbors was even taking pictures last night!

My father hasn't been feeling well lately and he is going to the doctor today. I hope that this is something that will heal itself. He has had problems with his heart that have been controlled by medication. I will call them later today and find out how the visit with the doctor went.

I had asked my mother if she wanted to go shopping tomorrow or next week on Friday or Saturday. She hasn't answered me. Evidently, she isn't a planner. If she picks a date and wants to go shopping, that will be first priority. She hasn't gotten to see all the nice stores near my house and I think that she would enjoy it. I know what to get my father for Christmas - money for plants and a Lowe's Building Supply gift card. I would love for my mother to pick out some gifts that she would really like too. For the past few years, I have given my parents the same gifts and I doubt that they need any more of those items! I would like to give them something that they would really like and enjoy.

My younger son is working every day until Christmas except next Monday and Wednesday. He is good at his job and Circuit City needs him. He has a paper due tomorrow and exams and he will be done with school. He is talking about working all night tonight and not sleeping to study and get the paper done. Poor guy.

My older son just finished a 5 day shift and has 4 days off. We will probably see more of him now. He will be working a lot until Christmas too. I am happy that we will all get to have Christmas day together! We had more time in the past when they were both in school and just working part time. But, we are so blessed to have them living here and get to see them all the time. We will just work with their schedules whatever they are. I really try not to monopolize or take up their time. They want to spend time with their friends and they are adults. :heart1:

Oops!

Wednesday, December 12, 2007

I have done so well this week. I have eaten mostly vegetables. Then, today I went to the grocery store. I bought a lot of Christmas goodies to have during vacation. When I got home, I tried the Silk Soy eggnog that I had bought. It was great! I should have stopped there, but I ate 100 calorie gingerbread cookies. They are delicious! I should have stopped there, but then a box came from my company from the Popcorn Factory! I was afraid that someone else would eat my chocolate covered pretzels, so I ate them. I've had all my calories for today. I made healthy soup for dinner, so I will have that tonight and be good tomorrow.

Each of my sons have girlfriends over tonight. I like them both. They are very nice girls. My older son and his girlfriend have been dating for 4 years. We pick on her saying, "When are you going to get a nice boyfriend?" She is like a member of the family. My other son picked on her telling her that she has to knock, but my husband and I told her that she can just walk into the house anytime - well when it's unlocked. She doesn't have a key.
