9 Days until Vacation!

Sunday, December 02, 2007

I've saved up my vacation all year and I'm taking a lot of it around Christmas! I have to work 5 days next week and 4 days the week after and then I'm off work until December 26! I work December 26 and 27 and then I'm off again until January 2. I can't wait!

I enjoyed the weekend. I spent much of my time making another gift scrapbook. This one was for my older son. He was very close to his grandfather, so I put a lot of effort into making it special for him. On Saturday night, we went to my brother-in-law's home for dinner with the entire family. We celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday. My sister-in-law brought my Pampered Chef purchases. On Sunday morning, we had breakfast with my parents. My older son couldn't make it because he was late leaving work. After breakfast, we went grocery shopping at WalMart. I bought the ingredients to make two Pampered Chef recipes. They were both delicious, but in the first one, I used dijon mustard instead of honey dijon mustard and this made it a little too "mustardy". It was still good, though. I made healthy banana pudding too.

I haven't been exercising as regularly as I would like, so tomorrow I plan to go to the gym before work. I've already laid out my clothes for the gym. I am also planning to go out at lunch and pick up litter box liners at PetSmart. I discovered huge sifting litter box liners at PetSmart that last for 30 days. They rock!

I hope that all my Calorie King friends had a wonderful weekend!

Vacation!? Awesome. Thats a great time to be on vacation -- hope you enjoy it. I can only get on line at work for a while. My computers at home are all acting up. The one that shut itself off is in the shop and my laptop has acted up to the point that I really can't even use it. AND I accidentally blocked my daughter's laptop from getting on the internet/router (or whatever) b/c I didn't recognize it as her and thought it was an outside computer. Now I don't know how to unblock her. :bang: :bang: :bang:

Progress Made...

Friday, November 30, 2007

My family has a bowl of candy in the kitchen and I realized today that it is a real problem. I have been limiting myself to 3 pieces of candy each day, but the temptation is just too much. So, I moved the bowl to a different location in the kitchen where I won't see it every time I walk in there and I made alternate plans! I am making no-bake healthy chocolate oatmeal cookies that I love so that I can have a good treat that won't blow my calorie budget. I also bought Sugar Free Ice Breakers at the grocery store so that I can have one or two a day for the cool taste. I found Lip Smacker M&M lip gloss at the grocery store too! I bought a pack of 8. I took out 3 for me and I'm giving the rest to my son's girlfriend. Each of the tubes of lip gloss has an M&M candy color on the end. It is so cute and it really smells like chocolate!

We have been going out to eat every night this week and that has been tough. I tell myself to order something and eat half of it, but that is tough to do. Fortunately, last night, I got fries and ate 3 and my son wanted them, so I gave them to him. He didn't realize what a favor he was doing for me! Today is my mother-in-law's birthday, so I picked up a small cake for her to have today and took it by her house. I also picked up a larger cake to have for her family party tomorrow. I know that it is tough for her having her first birthday alone after being married for 54 years. She met my father-in-law when she was 13 and she is 71 today, so that is a lot of years together. She would kill me if she knew that I put her real age here. She is 38 again every year!

I took care of a problem during lunch. My husband had ordered Transformers for my nephew for Christmas and one of the items was a collectible figurine and not a toy. What 9 year old kid wants a $40 statue? So, I took it back and got 3 toys to replace it! I tried to get my nephew to use my computer to give me a specific list so that shopping wouldn't be so difficult, but he never got it done. I think that he will be happy with what we have for him. His parents may not be so happy with one of the gifts, though. It is a Transformer that is a speaker for an MP3 system with Transformer sound effects. His parents may kill us! LOL! =D

I raked leaves this morning for my exercise. Now, I am in slightly better shape and our driveway is acorn-free and the natural area around the pond has a few less leaves. Half of our back yard is raked. I ran out of time and had to go to work. Maybe I'll finish the rest over the weekend or on Monday.

Tomorrow night, we are going to my husband's brother's house for a family party for my mother-in-law. They are having pizza. I will eat one slice, so I will be sure that I'm not hungry before we get there. It is nice to have a break from the responsibility of cooking for the family dinners.

Last night, we got a phone call during dinner. It was my mother-in-law saying that Cable was coming to her house tomorrow afternoon (this afternoon now). She was upset because she isn't planning to get cable until January. My husband called and was trying to find out what was going on. There was an appointment scheduled and they were about to cancel it when they figured out that it is my brother-in-law (at a different address) who has the appointment! Thank goodness we didn't cancel it.

Have a wonderful weekend, friends! :heart1:

I love cable!

Wednesday, November 28, 2007

We have had DirecTV for 11 years and we all liked it. Then, my younger son bought an HDTV and all our equipment is old and wouldn't work for HDTV. We thought about upgrading, but my husband wanted to go with cable instead since we don't have to buy the equipment or replace it if anything goes wrong. The transition was rough! The installation went well and then my son complained that one of the On Demand channels wouldn't work on his TV while it worked on mine. So, I tried to fix it and I think they cut off our Digital cable. Nothing would work! After three hours and three phone calls, we got it working again. I write software for a living and I know that people don't like change and people especially don't like technical changes. So, I got a kick out of my sons complaining about every little change. I was worried that we would love features, but I have found that we haven't lost any features and we have even gained a few!

We went to Skids last night and I got the pork chop sandwich and fries. I ate part of the sandwich and left part of the bread and I ate half of the fries. Mmmmm... That was good! I stayed within my calories too. On Monday, I ate chocolate candy and couldn't stop and really messed up. But, for the last two days, I have been able to eat three Hershey's Kisses and stop. Yay!

I took my cat, Mickey, back to the vet. The skin on his ear looks better but he is really mad at me! He is tired of having pills shoved down his throat and he is tired of going to the vet. I don't blame him. I would be mad too. I love my Mickey and I have to get him well. The vet was so nice! She didn't charge me today. I take him back again in a week.

Several Christmas packages have come by UPS and USPS. Online is the way to Christmas shop!

Congrats on the new tv setup. It's always good when it works the way you want it to. We recently made a change to digital tv service and I really like that too. We have the on screen caller id that is really handy. I hope your kitty gets better soon!

Change IS hard, isn't it? I've been paying for HD channels for months now -- and my family (who control the remotes all the time) just recently discovered them -- and the major difference in picture quality. They're a bit slow - but they catch on e-v-e-n-t-u-a-l-l-y ---LOL

Back to work after a 4 day weekend

Monday, November 26, 2007

It is so hard to go back to work after a 4 day weekend. It was really difficult for me! TOM started today. The good news is that I was 5 days late, so I didn't have to deal with it over the weekend. If I stay on the same schedule, it also means that I won't have to deal with it next month until AFTER Christmas. Yay! My husband was concerned because I was late and that is kind of funny considering that he has had a vasectomy and I have had an endometrial ablation.

We are getting cable tomorrow. I am excited! We have loved having DirecTV for 11 years, but we own all of our equipment and it is getting old. To upgrade to HDTV would be expensive either way, so we are trying cable since they provide all the equipment and there is no contract. We don't have an HDTV yet, but our younger son does. It is wonderful that he is the guinea pig! He works at Circuit City, so maybe he can help us to get a good deal on an HDTV eventually. The ironic thing is that by the time we get HDTV, there will be nothing on because of the writer's strike. TNT is airing new Christmas episodes of Saving Grace and the Closer. I would love to see the cable networks provide some good, strong competition for NBC, ABC, CBS, and the WB.

I had a terrible food day. I was upset about something at work and ate candy. I tried to compensate by eating a light dinner. I was back on track on Saturday and Sunday, but today I slipped. Tomorrow will be better. TOM brings out my worst eating habits! This also explains why I tried to pick a fight with my husband on Friday about whether making hamburgers and hot dogs is easy. ;) LOL!

I can't blame my bad eating on TOM. It's been gone for 2 yrs now :). We just switched from cable to Direct TV here. We love it! Now we're going to get a Slingbox so we can watch it on our cell phones. LOL

Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with a hubby for two four day weekends in a row? Last weekend for Thanksgiving and this weekend because he's getting a vasectomy Thur? It sure would be nice if TOM could conveniently wait until after Christmas. My fingers are crossed for you! I am NOT going to be So lucky... Crazy how that little bugger can bring out our terrible eating habits and our evil, picky side. LOL! Chin up!

I think my TOM killed my weight loss aspirations for the last week and a half. I was ravenous! I was also a bit cranky with the hubby.

I agree - it's soooo hard to go back to work after 4 days off. And I guess we're in to that really hard time of year where food is concerned. Best wishes to you making it through the holidays with a weight loss.

A Great Four Days Off!

Sunday, November 25, 2007

had a wonderful four days off! They were busy days, too, so I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to blog and visit other blogs. :( I think that I am getting a laptop for Christmas and that will help so much with my time here in the future!

On Thursday, we had Thanksgiving lunch with my parents at Cracker Barrel. They gave us the round table in the corner that my parents love. I couldn't believe it! We had a nice lunch and I ate too much of course. When we were leaving, the place was mobbed and I felt like I was escaping with my life. My father was almost knocked down by a child as he was trying to sit in a rocker on the front porch. I came home and made butternut squash casserole and pecan bars for our dinner with my husband's family. My husband and I had bought 2 turkeys and a ham from Hickory Farms for our dinner. We didn't have room for them all in our oven and my mother-in-law was wonderful to help. It was very annoying when she "took over" and wanted to cook the meat her way, but I stepped aside and just let her do everything as she wished. She was widowed in August and I imagine that this first holiday without her husband must have been really tough. It was sad for all of us. Since the turkeys and ham were precooked, I knew that nobody would die even if they weren't cooked at all. Everything turned out very well for dinner and we had a nice time although my father-in-law's absence was felt. He was such a wonderful cook and such a warm person; I am thankful that we have all the good memories of him.

On Friday, we visited my parents and my aunt. My father gave crepe myrtle plants to us. They are very special because my grandmother planted them and I have loved seeing them in my parents' yard for so many years. My husband planted the sprouts in our yard. I hope that they will live. My aunt, who has recently become totally blind, has someone staying with her now. I am so thankful for that! I feel that she will be able to live in her own home comfortably now for a long time. When she was rebelling against having help, I was worried that she would get hurt and end up in a nursing home.

On Saturday, I went to a scrapbooking crop at a neighbor's house. Since my neighbor provides the room, I brought the food. I made turkey subs, chocolate chip cookies, and white chocolate oreo cookie fudge. I also took candy and potato chips. I made a diet sandwich just for me and I ate that and 4 cookies. I managed to stay on track on Saturday! I left the crop early for my husband's family's Saturday night dinner. My husband made hamburgers and hotdogs which he says are easy and I say are not. He had a really tough time. His mother provided the meat and it was still frozen. When he put the burgers on the grill, there was so much grease that they burst into flames. We thought that the carport was burning down! Also, the light wouldn't work, so my husband was cooking in the dark. You would think that all that flame would provide light, but it didn't. I ran back to our house and got a light bulb and changed the bulb and that didn't help. The only way that I could keep the light on was to stand in a chair and keep the chain on the light fixture pulled taught. There was no healthy food for dinner, so I had a plain hot dog and a taste of pie.

On Sunday, we had breakfast with my parents and then went shopping for supplies at WalMart. We came home and watched Beauty and the Geek in our bedroom upstairs because there was a kid (I mean a 21 year old young man) asleep on the couch in the living room. Then, during the afternoon, we did a lot of online Christmas shopping. That is the way to do it! :) I have gotten two of the six memorial scrapbooks that I am giving for Christmas done! Yay!

Tomorrow, I am going to get our cable turned on. We had cable 11 years ago in the days before digital cable. We have had DirecTV for 11 years now. Our son bought a 40" HDTV and can't get HD programming with our current system. Upgrading DirecTV would be a major pain for us because changing our wiring around would be difficult. With cable, we should be able to use the wiring we have and get HDTV for our son. I hope that this works out! The wonderful thing, though, is that if it doesn't, we don't have to keep cable. Our bill will go up some, but with all our old DirecTV equipment, we are facing quite a bit of expense replacing it. We have been worried about the trees in our neighbor's yard across the street too. They are growing taller and our satellite dish is not! The trees are so tall that messing with the trees is out of the question. I've been teasing my son saying that we are going to move his bedroom to the living room so that his HDTV will be in the living room. Also, I've kidded that when he goes to work, we are going to go into his room and watch TV. Just kidding! I'm happy for him getting the TV and we will get one of our own one day...

It sounds like you had a wonderful holiday. It was good of you to let your mother-in-law take over. I would have had a tough time with it too, but it was good of you. The burger story is kinda funny. :) Grilling flaming hockey pucks in the dark sounds like it's a lot easier than anything else. :)
