Turbo Jam has a 10 day 10 pound slim down challenge I guess you can say. I've been doing turbo jam, but I haven't been giving my all...lol. So, with starting today, I'm going to push myself for the next ten days doing my own Turbo Jam challenge. I'm also going to do my own food, but I'm going to follow Sparkpeople's recommended nutrition range for myself.
Recently, I went home (to Kentucky) for family reunion and was there for almost a week and gained almost half the weight back that I've recently lost... . On top of that I feel like I need to motivate myself into working out and I thought if I give myself my own little mini challenge, then I'll jump start my way back into a healthier lifestyle. So, I'm going to measure myself Day 1, Day 5 and Day 10. Hopefully, I can keep away from the scale in between those days...lol.
Day 1 Measurements:
Weight: 274
Chest:49
Waist: 52
Hips: 53
Right Mid-Thigh: 31
Left Mid -Thigh: 30.5
Right Upper Arm: 17
Left upper Arm: 16
My 10 Day Turbo Jam Challenge:
Day 1: Cardio Party
Day 2: Cardio Party
Day 3: Turbo Sculpt and Ab Jam
Day 4: Cardio Party and 20 Minute Jam
Day 5: Cardio Party
Day 6: Turbo Sculpt and Ab Jam
Day 7: Cardio Party and 20 Minute Jam
Day 8: Cardio Party
Day 9: Turbo Sculpt and Ab Jam
Day 10: Cardio Party and 20 Minute Jam
I designed this workout based on my work and sleep schedule. I work night shift and lately I've been so tired that I crash as soon as I get home. When I wake up that's when I have the most energy so that's when I workout. Hopefully, this will change I rather workout right after work. Of course, I'll track my nutrition. I'm finally getting the hang of actually eating enough calories. I'm not worried about my carb intake verses my sodium, protein and fiber intake. Watching my sodium intake sucks...lol. Now the first thing I look at when reading labels is the sodium intake and if it's over a certain amount, I automatically put it back (even if everything else is pretty good). I'm on the edge of having high blood pressure and I refuse to be 30 and taking hypertension medication (I think that's another blog...lol). I'm trying to find ways to increase my protein intake without protein powders (only because I can not stand the taste). If it taste bad, I can not and will not do it. Someone mentioned a soy protein powders taste better than whey, so I'll look into that soon.
I know I'll have a good outcome with this, it's just keeping the motivation and seeing the light at the end of a long tunnel is the main challenge. I have a date with the girls during this challenge and going to see the incredibly funny man Kevin Hart during this challenge. Any other time, I consider those free days... but I have to keep my eyes on the prize. It's only 10 days right?????? Fingers cross!!!!!

When I started my journey on being more active about losing weight I was giving advice after advice after advice on what to do and what not to do. Some of it was taken in consideration but about a good 80% was in one ear and out the other.
What gets me is when people get offended when I don't appear interested with their suggestions. For instance:
Once upon a time a guy told me that I should go on the 4 day diet. Eat all protein on Sunday, Grains on Monday, Veggies on Tuesday, Fruits on Wednesday and continue the cycle. REALLY? YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME?
The HCG diet: take drops or a shot and eat only 500 calories....500 calories? Maybe you didn't get what I was questioning about...FIVE HUNDRED CALORIES? I'm not 2 years old. That's why you lose weight, the drops doesn't do anything but MAYBE suppress your appetite and for a girl like me who has NEVER BEEN SKINNY, nothing but my mind can suppress my appetite.
Everything that has been suggested, I've thought about. But, it's all about eating right + exercising = losing weight. Some have made comments like...
"Well it doesn't seem like that's going well for you."
"Maybe you should rethink your strategy."
"Have you thought about "the surgery""
REALLY? YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDINg ME? RIGHT?
Usually it's those that haven't had a battle like mine. I didn't gain weight a couple of years ago or after I had a child. I've been a big kid since I was born. I was born this way. Can I change it? YES, but I'm tired of those who haven't had a long term struggle like I have telling me what I should do. I get caught up in conversations where people just want to lose 5, 10, 20 pounds and fit into a size 4, 6, 8. I NEED TO LOSE 100 POUNDS! Not 5, not 10, not freaking 20....100. Yes, that is a big number. It is not in my comfort zone in telling people that I need to do that. But, I have made it my comfort zone.
I have been comfortable with myself because I am a strong woman and I know that I am beautiful (conceded...at times yes, but blame that on my 6 brothers who told me I was beautiful every day). My father told me last year,"You are the most strongest person that I know; physically, mentally and emotionally." That will forever stick with me. I need to be as physically strong as I am mentally and sometimes emotionally (...lol).
Another thing is how can I take food out of my comfort zone when it's been there for so long? I am seriously working on it. I can work out every day like a BEAST, but if I eat Burger King, Whataburger, ribs, hotdogs and cookies I know I'm not going to get anywhere. But I AM FIGURING IT OUT. That's the important thing. "Let me figure it out and you just support me," is my new saying.....
My new motto: Just because I've Never Been Skinny, doesn't mean I will never live healthy....
That felt good to get off my chest...THANK YOU!

Yesterday, after my weekly refrigerator clean up, I went grocery shopping. Lately, I've been trying to concentrate on what will I be able to cook/eat/do for the week instead of 2 weeks (keep the process stuff out of my fridge). Since I've been cooking more often and my work days has moved from the weekend this week to Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; I decided I can bring a pre-made meal to work on Wednesday. Now granted, I have been trying to stay away from the pre-made meals and soups (which I love!!!) because of the sodium intake. Also, even if they try to replace their sodium with potassium it gives the meal a "fake" taste (maybe it's just me) which I don't like. Still leaving the meal to have about 400 to 600 mg of sodium. When I do have one of these frozen dinners or soups I really have to think about what will my sodium intake will be for that day.
Now alot of people don't think about their sodium intake, especially at my age. But, I am a black woman with a history of eating alot of salt and one of the things I do not want and trying to stay clear from is hypertension. This is way I get really concern about my sodium intake and I usually allow myself about 2000 mg.
OK! Enough about me....ON TO THE BAMBOOZLING!!!!!!!!
Once upon a time I tried Lean Cuisines Chicken Parmesan and I actually like it, so I was looking for it again when I crossed paths with Stouffer's Farmers Harvest Chicken and Parmesan Pasta Bake. Hmmmm, this looks and sounds good. So I flipped it over to see what was in it....hmmm, this looks familiar.
12 oz
Calories 310
Total fat 8 grams
Cholesterol 30mg
Sodium 920mg (YIKES!)
Carbs 39g
Fiber 6g
Sugar 8g
Protein 21g.
So my usual question that I ask myself when I really want something is....CAN I WORK AROUND THIS?...SURE! But, let me see if I can find my alternative.
Lean Cuisine Chicken Parmesan:
10 1/2 oz
Calories 300
Total fat 8,
Cholesterol 30mg
Sodium 660mg
Potassium 790mg
Carbs 39g
Fiber 3g
Protein 18g.
So, with me standing in the middle of the aisle, with both boxes in my hand, I said (actually out loud) "What! I've been BAMBOOZLED!" An older lady next to me asked me what was wrong and I handed her the boxes and she said,"Wow, now look at that. They are almost the same thing. A little higher in sodium but that gives it flavor...you're right, we have been bamboozled." and we laughed like really old friends.
So, ladies and gents....what did I take home? AHHH Stouffers of course. I don't know about you, but for now on I will definitely look at what the differences are instead of taking their word for it. It might be a little higher in something, but my question will always be....CAN I WORK AROUND IT?
