Learning with the Plateau Busters Spark Coach Program

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

Wow I learned some new things on SparkCoach today from Fitness Coach Nicole Nichols

"Don't rely on the ''calories burned'' outputs on cardio machines too much, either. They can be inaccurate by up to 40%! These numbers are especially inaccurate for people who are 50-100 pounds overweight. "

"Your regular activities of daily living (general movement around the house, at work, etc.) are already accounted for in your program, so make sure you're not tracking calories burned for them. You should only be tracking the calories you burn through your workouts, or for activities that go above and beyond the movement in your usual routine. "

This has motivated to me invest in a heart rate monitor because the gym machines are unreliable. This also explains why my fitbit cals are different then my sparkpeople cals. The two are linked but I'm assuming the fitbit ones are alot more accurate. because its tracking my intensity level as well as my cals burned just by breathing. Both my fitbit and spark people are linked so I'm keeping track essentially in both the sparkpeople and fitbit trackers but a lot has been solved today. I love this Plateau Busters Spark Coach program. So far it's proved to be very useful. I'm learning and that's a very cool thing!

It is a great program and you learn a lot the more your learn the easier it becomes for you to stay in control and not binge also you reason with yourself before you go for the piece of cake instead of the apple.
Good luck! Stay focus and arm yourself with knowledge.

Monday Madness Carried into Terrible Tuesday

Monday Madness Carried into Terrible Tuesday

I'm exaggerating of course but it's just been a strange day. Left the house early, got to work late because of a car accident (hope they're ok), dropped my homemade egg and cheese muffin on my lap at work cheese side down ( still ate it, not proud of that BTW) ), new work instruction changes that are completely illogical.. thats my day so far. I'm just coasting till 5pm.

I started to feel my blood pressure go up today, for the first time in a while. Then I realized, you know what, none of these things that happened are under my control. It's all good. I can't control these things but I can control how I handle them. Still feeling a little stressed out but its passing. Thanks to sparkpeople and DM I'm learning how to deal with stress different then in the past. None of these small things matter. I'm cool, your cool, were all ok.

I'm OK

Monday Blahs

Monday, August 26, 2013

Oh how the weekend comes and goes so quickly. I'd rather be outside playing, or at the gym, or anywhere other then here at work. This will pass. I just have the Monday Blahs. And the Grown-up Blahs.

Every time I go out to exercise, I hope to find a parcel of money that will allow me to retire and become a 'professional' athlete.

Spark Articles Contradict each other.

Sunday, August 25, 2013

Anyone notice how the Spark Articles often contradict themselves? I love SparkPeople and I guess you just gotta experiment and see what works for you. The articles can make you a little crazy. so you take some and leave some but just try to keep moving forward.

I think weight loss and exercise are art rather than science. So everybody has an opinion and a study. The one I adhere to is expend more calories than you take in.

No, I haven't noticed, but I do have a couple of contrary opinions. One is the recommended water. I easily drink at least that amount if I count coffee, chrystal lite, and diet soda. Also, how many oz in a glass?

Other issue may be from fellow sparkers rather than Spark. The push to keep calories as high as your targets, to keep from going into starvation mode. I was horrified when one sparker said she had to force herselt to eat 1500 cal when she didn't want to.

SparkCoach Daily Community Task: What will you do with your old clothes?

Saturday, August 24, 2013

Write about what you will do with your old, too-big clothes. Will you keep them as a reminder of how far you've come with your weight loss? Or will you get rid of them for good?

I have a fat bag. I usually don't realize how big my clothes are till I'm out and about, So If I spend the day hoisting up my shirt or pants the first thing I do when I get home is take them off and throw them in the fat bag. After the fat bag gets full then I take it to goodwill. I shop at second hand stores, especially now that I'm on my journey I don't want to splurge on clothes that will be going into the fat bag in a matter of months.

When I go to the thrifts stores I wonder about my clothes journey and weather or not I'm buying someone else fat bag clothes. Circle of Clothing Life I guess. Funny the way it is.

I offer them first to friends &family who might need/want them, anything they don't want, goes to good will. I have 1 or 2 pieces that stay for sentimental values.

I have two outfits picked out to keep until I reach goal weight so I can see how far I've come. I intend to give away the rest to our church clothing room this time around so I will be aware if I start gaining weight back. I, too, shop at the thrift store so I won't be wasting money on stuff that will hopefully only fit a short time. I told my sons I want 3 new outfits when I reach goal weight!

I have cleaned out my closets, and have given all my good, used clothing to our local family center/thrift store. Some were worn very little, and some weren't worn at all.
I'm retired now, so don't need my good work clothing.

Perhaps it will give me more incentive to keep the weight off, so I can continue to fit into my smaller size.

Most of my big clothes are mumu type dresses, and tho they are obviously too big, I still wear them. The pants are in my mend pile to be shortened & for new elastic etc in waist. I'll just toss them when I get to my desired size. The dresses all have stains on them from dropping food. (An age related problem, plus I mostly eat in my lounge chair watching "the chew" on TV.
