A little life update...

Friday, January 04, 2013

I realized today that I've been neglecting my blog! Can't have that. After my last post, things got extraordinarily busy at work. I got everyone Pre-k through grade 6, the grammar school chorus, and the middle school chorus ready for their Christmas concerts. It was split into 2 nights. Grammar school went on Monday, December 17. I was so proud of all the kids involved in it! It went very well despite how nervous (ok so terrified might be a better word) I was. The next day I had a rehearsal with the middle school chorus. I have honestly never met a less co-operative group of people in my life. Working with that particular group was NOT a good experience. However, they did pretty well in their concert. But I am quite glad it's over.

After Christmas, the regular music teacher was scheduled to come back from maternity leave. So I have moved on to teaching ESL for adults at a language school in Boston. I've been on staff there since the beginning of November. Until now I've just been called in to substitute on my days off. Starting Monday I'll be teaching my own class and proctoring placement exams. Not a lot of hours yet, but the pay is still good and as soon as more classes open up I'll get first dibs! The other teachers have been really welcoming and genuinely seem excited that I'm coming on board regularly from now on. I'm looking forward to the new chapter in my professional life!

Sounds like you've got through the stress and are moving in the right direction. I'm happy for you, and glad you're liking the new full time placement. emoticon

SparkCoach challenge

Monday, December 03, 2012

So, to help me shed some of this extra weight I decided to try SparkCoach. Today's challenge is to not eat anything after dinner. I've been managing to do that pretty consistently, but it's a good reminder. I've been distracting myself with jewelry making or knitting or even playing a computer game until bed time. Might be a little more challenging since I'm on an antibiotic and I'm supposed to eat something with it, but I can make it something healthy like yogurt.

Other than that, let my busy season commence! I have 2 full weeks left in this job, then the 2 Christmas concerts, then I believe a half day of school. Time to brush off the conducting skills for the concert, it's good arm exercise anyway!

WOW! That's almost my typical day. I sub the honey with sugar and the spinach with onions. Always have salad with lunch and dinner. Looks like you are fueled for a good day. Best wishes! emoticon emoticon

The Wonderful World of Stress

Thursday, November 29, 2012

Good morning! So I haven't posted for a couple weeks now. Work has been stressful with the children's concert coming up. I didn't realize it til recently, but I've been eating my way through it. I wouldn't mind if what I've been eating had any nutritional value at all, but it doesn't. Just ask the empty package of Oreos....

Can't do it anymore. My body is upset with me. My clothes are starting to feel too snug. I'm starting over today!

my husband is a music teacher too and things get very intense right before a concert! Good for you for putting your foot down and deciding to put yourself first! You can do it!

Isn't it amazing how easy it is for those moments to sneak up on us? I was tempted to let things go today too because I have a lot to do. Yesterday I had to really push to find those ten minutes to do something. Thank you for posting this and getting me off my tempted-to-blow-it-off butt. :)

Saturday, November 17, 2012

I did my first walk/run at the gym yesterday. I expected it to exhaust me, but it felt really good! Doing it again today.

    you go, girl!

on those running days when I'm just not feeling it for a distance run, I change to a sprint run (run as fast as I can, then walk, run fast, walk, etc.)
