So yesterday after I got back from riding Shooter, hubby tells me the neighbor called. Her daughter had rescued a feral kitten from her work, and they were looking for a home. They had said it was maybe 2-3 weeks old (!). I was kind of hesitant, but then later, we went over and let her know we were interested. At that point, it actually sounded like the daughter was going to keep him, but then today, she said her other cats weren't happy about it. So now we have a new baby. :-)
He's probably more like about 4-5 weeks old--very active, but his eyes are still bluish-grey. He ate like a horse--almost an entire can of wet food! He's very opinionated and vocal, and a real sweetie who loves to be petted. Meet Oscar!
We have him in a large crate with litter box, food, water and bed. It's the best way to keep him safe, and let the other kitties adjust and get used to him. He'll be in there for the next few days while we are at work, but he'll have lots of Mom and Dad playtime after we get home. I'll call the vet tomorrow to make an appointment to get him checked and started on his vacs. He seems really happy and healthy, and I'm so glad he's part of our family now. :-)

Presenting the saga of Shooter.
As some may know, I lost my sweet old Tennessee Walker, Spike a couple of weeks ago. He was retired and had been having lameness issues for a while. I found him dead in his stall--he went down and wasn't able to get back up. I was devastated. :*(
So like a week later, on a whim, I was browsing some online horse classifieds. saw quite a few that were OK, could work, might be worth checking out. Then I saw him. A beautiful dappled palomino quarter horse. Amazing trail horse. Right age, right price. And flashy. I had even commented to my husband that after so many dark brown/black horses, I wouldn't mind getting an appy or paint or something flashy. So I sent an email through the site.
By the next day, I was obsessed. Since I hadn't heard back, I called the number listed to arrange an appointment. I got a call back like 30 minutes later, but lost it. Called again and left a message. Then I got an email from the classified site--"sale pending".
I was crushed. I figured that was it, he was sold.
Then, 20 minutes later, I got a call. Shooter was available as the pending sale was way below the asking price. So I went to see him.
What an incredibly sweet, laid back horse! I had been having amazing vibes from the start--like I'd only felt when I found my most awesome horse ever, and it just continued. He only wants to be on the trail--doesn't care for arena work. That's what I was looking for--and I don't have an arena, so we'll be on the trail all the time. ;-)
I met the owner today to place a deposit, and it turned out that we work in the same industry, and have many business contacts in common---amazing!
The vibes on this have been so powerful from the start--I am so looking forward to many happy years with Shooter. He comes home for good on Tuesday. :-)
These are pics from his ad--you can see why I was smitten.
EDIT: Just wanted to add that he's 7 years old and 15.2 hands (though he seems bigger because he's built like a tank!).

Well, on this beautiful fall day, I had an urge to plant stuff, and so I did. :-)
First I planted an awesome herb garden in a new stacked-pot thing I got recently. I'm quite pleased with the results:
Planted a good variety--rosemary, sage, parsley, two kinds of chives, oregano, two kinds of thyme, and basil in a separate pot. Also planted some hot peppers, tomatoes, a gardenia shrub and a sunflower plant.
Hope they all do well! It's late in the season, but with our generally mild weather, they should do OK for the most part. :-)

Here's a pic of the fun little necklace my friend sent me--for those days when I'm feeling 'piratey', she said, LOL. It's more sort of Hindu-y, but I just love all the little charms and things. It looks like something Captain Jack would wear. :-)
