April Showers Bring May Flowers...and Lots of Humidity!

I'm excited about the start of spring! But I have to admit, the humidity is crazy~! I know this is Florida, but I was hoping this kind of humidity wouldn't start for a long while. Usually, the worst of it hits during the late summer to early fall.

My biggest concern is with the new vegetable plants I just put in the back porch. I already have chili peppers and bell peppers growing. Now, I've got cherry, roma and beefsteak tomatoes and some zucchini. I'm really hoping these turn out great. I need to buy some new bell pepper plants since the ones I currently have managed to get hit with mold.

I'm hoping all of these plants will produce a good amount of veggies this year. I've been on a cooking streak, and I really want to have enough to even share with my friends. :)

As for my weight loss goals, it's felt rather stagnant as of late. But that's mostly because I needed a break from the low-calorie diet and heavy exercise. But now worries, I've gotten back into the swing of things.

I'm loving the Turbofire program even though it's so tough. I just keep pressing play and going for it! So far, I haven't done much for scales, but I'll probably get a new scale reading in soon. I've always been slow with my weight loss so I know not to get too hung up on my numbers.

I also managed to buy myself a swimsuit. I was hoping to wait until after I got down to 125 lbs., but I really want to exercise in the pool, and my old swimsuit is way too big. And I have to admit that I felt pretty confident in my new one which has never happened before. I feel so good about myself and how much I've accomplished. It's a great feeling. One that I hope every member on this site feels as they progress through their SP journey.

TurboFire sounds interesting but I haven't looked into much. Is it like TurboJam but with more intensity?

So hopefully, the few lovely people I have befriended on this site have not considered me another drifter that gave up too soon in her challenge.

I know I haven't been very attentive to my trackers as of late. Unfortunately, I contracted a rather nasty infection that has resulted in me taking some nasty medication. One of the biggest side effects is drowsiness. And it lasts ALL day. So I've spent much of my time sleeping or attempting to get things done at a snail's pace. I still have 6 more days of medication; however, I'm happy to announce that I have started my Turbo Fire program.

Thankfully, my program schedule has a starter week so I'll be easing into my workouts. And there are plenty of stretch videos for pre and post workout. So I'm excited about that. I think the biggest worry is not stretching enough. I feel better knowing that I can rinse and repeat these videos for all of my workouts.

As for my diet, I'm on a very restricted one for the next 5 days. This meal plan was provided by Turbo Fire. I figured I would give it a try. We'll see how it goes.

    I am glad you are doing better. I had surgery last week and have been getting lots of rest. I cannot do any strenuous exercise for five more weeks. I will try to get in some walking real soon.
I did not give up on you. Sometimes we all have things that get in the way.

Not Starting Over, But Starting the Next Phase!

Last Sunday, I completed my Les Mills Combat 60 day challenge. And with it, lost a total of 11 lbs. and lost 2 dress sizes. (Yay!)

Afterwards, I decided to take the next 2 weeks off from any high impact workouts in order to let my shins and right ankle heal up. For the most part, they are starting to feel much better. Though that right shin is still being bothersome. I hope to be pain free by next Monday! If not, I'll have to take it easy on my workouts.

I have a feeling I'll have to lose one additional pound in the continuation of my weight loss since my eating and exercising habits have been less than exemplary in the past week or so. lol Darn you, fudge cookies!

I recently left the single life behind (More yays!); However, I've allowed myself to slack in exercise and better food choices. I think part of it is also that monthly visit most women dread. My food cravings have been horrible for the past three days. But I've been trying to incorporate healthier choices and work my way back into a weight loss, dietary plan.

On the bright side, I'm excited about my next fitness program. I'll be starting it on April 1st. It's going to be the 90 day Turbofire challenge. The cardio workouts are fast moving and supposedly as hard as the P90x and Insanity programs. I've done about 3 of the HIIT workouts at my fit club, but never consecutively so it'll be interesting to see how I handle it.

I might even get my boyfriend to partake in some of the workouts, but part of me is thinking about letting him borrow my Les Mills Combat program so he can do that at his house.

Anyways, life is good. And I've got about 14 lbs. to go before I reach my first SP goal. Afterwards, I might lose another 5-10 depending on how my body looks and feels. I definitely don't want to go too small, but I want to reach a level of fitness that will help me maximize my success at a spartan/tough mudder race.

So best of luck to myself and everybody else in their fitness/weight loss journeys. We can do it!

    Great job!!
As for the sore shins and ankles, make sure you're getting plenty of water. This helps cushion the joints and it helps with so many other aspects of fitness too.

When you begin TurboFire maybe ease into it the 1st week so that you don't overdo it for your shins - just a suggestion.

From Laying Down All Day to Craving Workouts

First off, shin splints are the devil! I have some leg compression sleeves that have been a God send, but the aching in the bone is still a nuisance. Tell it to go away. :/

Anywho, I woke up today feeling refreshed. Finally! Last week felt like a real struggle. I don't know if it was the weather or what, but I had to really push myself just to get off my butt and exercise. Most of my workouts end up being done late at night around 10 p.m. - 1 a.m.

But Sunday is the start of a new week, and I am absolutely proud of myself for getting up and finishing a workout in the afternoon. I actually wanted to go and press that play button--and today was a rest day on my 60 day workout program! I feel refreshed, energized and ready to take on so much!

And to top it all off, my weight is starting to drop again! Yay!

I started with a strong 6 lb. loss during my first month on SP, but my body fell into starvation mode around month two, and I ended up regaining 3 lbs. in order to reverse the effects. Fortunately, I'm about 1.2 lbs away from getting back to a 6 lb. loss!

And even though I had that weight gain, I feel half of it was actual muscle gain. My body has transformed quite a bit since I started my Les Mills Combat program. With some Insanity, P90X, and Turbofire on the side, I've managed to sculpt every muscle in my body. It feels great to know that I'm actually addressing all of the muscles and not just a select few. I hope that in about 2-3 months, I'll be able to complete a full body push up without straining my arms and back.

So month three, here I come. If I keep this up, I think I'll be down about 4-5 lbs. by the next 30 days.

Told myself to check out those programs that you're talking about. I'm thinking that I should start some kind of strength training, but I'm sort of sick of those classic ones (lift weight for biceps, triceps, squats...), so I'm looking for alternative. That can be done at home, 'cause unfortunately I'm on a tight budget.

Thanks for sharing about your shins-I'm going to get the compression socks, until I can get to the doctor & see about what's going on with my legs. Today I know I over did it yesterday keeping up with my sister shopping, etc...

    Well done for what you have do.

Now I don't know if this will help but when I got Shin splits I found that if I walked with my toes pointing at 10 to 2 it didn't hurt so much. It has to be worth a try even it it doesn't work for you.

Well Crap in a Hat!

I have shin splints. Awesome. T.T

I swear I have the worst luck. lol!

Earlier today, I decided to go for a walk/run around the beach park down the road from where I live. Unfortunately, I got not more than 15 seconds in the running portion and my shin bones were screaming. By the time I got to the pavilions to rest up, I was practically in tears. I think all of this really started up after that 25 minute run I did on the treadmill at my gym. I felt so awesome managing to run that long, but I busted my ankle afterwards and possibly my legs.

I have this cruddy tendency to over do things without realizing it until after the fact. ._. So I'm taking an active step to tone it down and just stick to cardio that's light on my legs and harder on my upper body.

Let's just pray that everything heals up before March 9th. I signed up for the McGuire's 5k run, and there's no way I'm going to miss that. O.O

    OMG! I don't know what to say! I didn't know you could do that to your shins, I over did my walking & standing yesterday & today my knees & shins are killing me!

I'm really sorry you got injured. Just take it slowly now, let everything heal, and really don't overdo with the workouts then. emoticon
