Went into the dentist today after creating a huge (well my tongue told me so!) hole in an upper tooth.
I was just going for a check up knowing that I needed this treatment as this tooth was filled with a temporary filling last year and the promise of root canal treatment a few weeks later.
Well, the temp. filling held until Sunday past (18 months!) and so for the fear of the treatment, I never went back! Until today!
The Dentist said that the hole was so big (my tongue wasn't lying!) that it may have to be extracted at a later date if the treatment that she could give today didn't hold.................................TODAY
?? I screamed (well almost screamed!)
"Yes of course I can do it" says she.
Oh my god, I just thought that this was a check up and the real pain would be at least a week later! And she also found another filling for me to savour as an added bonus of pain! GREAT!
"Well, shall I get on with it?" she asks.
Why let the worry linger for a future appointment, OK, let's do it says I (in a very jovial way as if to try to hide the fear that was clearly apparent in my voice!)
"OK" says the Dentist "we won't bother with numbing you up, we'll go ahead and see if you feel much"
WHAT? No numbing injection?
"We'll see how you go"
I pinched myself in the hope that this was just a nightmare and I might awaken to find myself tucked snugly in my bed.....................NO SUCH LUCK! I was actually there and this WAS happening.
Ahead she proceeds with my hands clasped firmly in a sweaty grip!
Drills out the big hole, drills out the minor filling................NO PAIN at all!
My word, can this be true? yes it is, NO PAIN.
Fillings in place, I rise from the chair and proclaim the young lady as the very best Dentist that I've ever had, seen or even wanted to kiss! She was sensational and whatever they pay her, it clearly isn't enough!
Was she a great Dentist she is and so how lucky am I? or am I just brave and didn't recognise the pain?............Mummy's brave little soldier rides again!
