A goal properly set is halfway reached.

Monday, September 05, 2011

Thanks to Abe Lincoln for the quote, I've been thinking about how I can achieve my goals and i realized that maybe I should only set daily goals instead of large goals *cough10dayjuicefastcough* because then I don't feel so much pressure and failure when I don't follow through. I was proud of myself that I made it 24 hours with the Juice fast..however, I'm not too proud of my food choices since then. I'm becoming a junk food vegetarian..which does not physically feel good. So I'm setting my daily goals complete with what I am going to eat and drink and physical activity I hope to do. ALso, for you lovely readers who are bored and want to read, i will track through this blog of my successes and failures to hopefully hold myself accountable. So here are the goals that I am setting:

*30oz of Fresh Juice
*60oz Water
*30 minutes physical activity
*Less junk food :)

Tuesday's Specific Goals:

Breakfast:
Kale, apple, strawberry juice blended with banana ( or just banana separately)
small bowl of oatmeal
hot tea

Lunch:
PB & J sandwich on whole wheat bread thin
Apple
Carrots

Snack:
Trail mix

Dinner:
Boca Burger
Mean Green Juice
roasted brussel sprouts

I'm sure the calories are low but I will figure it out...

Physical Activity: 6 week 6pack Jillian michaels or Yoga Meltdown...i hope i don't die haha

60oz of water

Alright, here it is! So according to Mr. Lincoln my goal is halfway reached because it is set :)

On another note, I would like to put a shout out to my hubby (though he won't read this) he was such a support and is still all for the juicing. I love seeing him somewhat passionate about something..support is very much key to weight loss, and I couldn't imagine not having any support in my life....

Goodnight!

Thanks for this quote and reflection. I went way off yesterday and today. What was I thinking setting out to do a 30 Day Juice Fast (previously made it 21 days years ago). Now I will share my fall and revise this goal for the rest of the month.

We just have to 'keep swimming, just keep swimming...' (A Finding Nemo fan :-)

i know it is easy to reach a goal when i think about what i need to reach the goal. when i make extreme goals out of frustration, i never reach them.
1 goal is to plan suppers better. that tends to be my calorie issue.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts

Saturday, September 03, 2011

Day 1 was sort of successful. I started the fast last night around lunch and dinner...I made it to dinner time today and the thought of having any more juice made me feel physically ill..My husband felt the same way. I realize that the first day is hard, but it was horrible haha...We have decided that completely fasting isn't going to work for us..so we are going to still drink lots of juice ( we got really good stuff at the farmers market today) but eat very healthy meals...tonight was not the appropriate example; we went to olive garden..BUT, we didn't let ourselves get super full..We feel sort of like failures, because we couldn't stick it out, but we've made a goal to drink 30oz of juice and continue with lots of water and eat stuff like soups (veggie broth based), salads, we got tons of apples and nectarines so just continuing with juice but eating...I cannot believe how difficult it is to fast. I knew I needed more to feel full but could not drink anymore ..i know its all in the mind; its just hard..
ANYWHO, I am super excited for my morning juice.. I'm not a smoothie fan because I despise yogurt or milk mixed with juice..BUT, i have found that bananas take that place. My favorite drink is apple, strawberry and banana..super simple and sooo tasty; i might add kale...haha obsessed much? haha.

I guess Day 1 wasn't that great, but I'm sure tomorrow will be better..

You are just starting. Be gentle with yourself. If you have not fasted before, you may want to ease into it by having those 30 oz of juice (on an empty stomach always) and permit yourself to eat as many fruits and lightly cooked veggies as you can stomach. Your body will start craving the healthy stuff and tapering to just juice (or 'enriched' juice) will be a bit easier.

That is not failure... it is major progress. Instead of focusing on what you cannot eat, think of Juice Feasting as an 'add to' diet. You are adding that amount of juice and let your body be your guide. That also almost eliminates a lot of the withdrawals and cleansing crises.

If you were a vegetable what would you be?

Saturday, September 03, 2011

Well, my husband has completely surprised me. He is so into starting this juice fast that he started it a day early. He came home and told me that he has only had juice today.. He went to Whole Foods for lunch and got one of those bottled juices like Naked brand or Odwalla..yeah yeah I know thats not the proper juice, but it is better than the other stuff on the shelves, plus we didn't have anything here at home. I guess it was called "mean green"..he drank a whole liter of it....He said he wanted to start it today, so we went to the store and for me I did not have juice only today...my morning wasn't good haha...I had a coffee ( i needed it, ran a group for 4 & 5 year olds haha) toast..then I had a doughnut agh...BuT my lunch was a Kale, apple and orange concoction; it was pretty tasty.
We just got home from the store and made our Mean Green juice...and i have to say it is pretty good; smells worse than it tastes! So I guess our journey has begun. Tomorrow's agenda is to find this organic farm to see what they have and if the prices are better..we are on a budget and some of the produce is super expensive.

Tomorrow is a new day, so if we are irritable we will just nap, thats why we chose a long weekend to do this..I will report back tomorrow!

To answer my title: Today, I'd be Kale...because I think I am obsessed with it..I can't imagine my life without it haha and It is a superfood..I love the immediate affects it has on my skin.. :)

Here's what we bought this evening..almost have the whole rainbow :)

Carrots are in the way back. we got a HUGE bag of them :) I'm not quite there yet to try beets; someday though.

I love your shopping variety (though I didn't see any carrots -- I love carrots and beets in my juices).

You guys did great! If you did it at Whole Foods... WOW! They do occasionally have good deals on produce, but usually not the organic variety.

KUDOS on starting!

I guess I would be a beet... most folks don't quite know what to make of them... but they are just so good for you!

If I had to pick a vegetable I would be today it would most likely be broccoli since it is one of my favorites. I will probably go out and buy some today along with some other colorful fruis and veggies to make a green smoothie. Though the kale does sund excellent also right now.

MJK0430: I was afraid to try Kale..I like spinach but thats really bitter especially in juices, so i was hesitant with kale. I first tried it by making kale chips which are fantastic! then i decided to try it, and let me tell you that juice last night was FABULOUS! probably because it was sweet but YUM :) let me know if you try it what you think!!!

DS9KIE: I have a Jack Lalane Juicer, it is wonderful. The kale did get stuck so i just had to turn it off and adjust the kale with a wooden spoon and it worked great! I'm kinda hesitant with allthe veggies; i want it to taste good. I know that once I get use to them it will all taste good but i'm still hesitant haha.

I just put whatever fruit and veggies I have in my juice. I put one fruit in it to make sweeter usally an apple and sometimes grapes and strawberries then the veggies I put in kale, spinach (or whatever greens I have) broccoli stems, cucumber, celerly, well that all I can remember.
