Sun Goddess vs Troll

Saturday, May 19, 2012

I had planned to workout for a good hour this morning.

I did today's Supreme90 workout (one week until round 2 is done!!!) and then started doing some strength traing, but the lure of the warm ai outside was too much for me.

I decided that even though my goal was some high calorie burn today, I wasn't going to get there by working out in the basement feeling like a troll.

Instead, I decided to be a sun goddess and walk. My trade off was that I would do 6 miles instead of the 4 I normally do.

I ended up doing 6.7 miles, but throughly enjoyed the warm weather and sunshine.

It took longer to burn my calories than an HIIT workout, but had additional positives:
1. Less time for me to eat.
2. Good dose of Vitamin D!!

I hope everyone else is getting a chance to enjoy warm weather too!

I spent hours and HOURS out on my bike traveling the roads this weekend...loving it!

I love being outside, too! We had my youngest son's birthday party today (outside!) than I was able to lay in the sun for a while. I did come in to do yoga in the basement for a lit. By then I was too hot to be outside any longer, lol!

When I do an arm workout I'm good, but when I do any other workout my arms feel like they are going

Sunday, May 13, 2012

I am doing supreme 90 for the second time (less than two weeks left!) I know I am pushing my weight limits more this time than I did last time. In fact I have to get some heavier weights.

I have been creative with the 10, 5, 3, and 2 pound weights I have, but I can tell I should be going heavier for my swing throughs and some other exercises.  Any suggestions on where to get some less expensive weights?  I've been watching Craig's list and such, but haven't found anything.

I think it is so funny.  When I do legs, total body, cardio challenge, tabata, and some of the other workouts my arms feel like they are going to fall off at the end.  Especially with legs.  I don't feel the workout in my legs at all, but my arms are like jelly for an hour afterwards. I think I am going to try using some ankle weights to increase the resistance because I know I can't add any more weight to my upper body!

When I do chest and back, shoulders and arms, or backs and bi's (or however they are organized) I always feel like I've gotten a good workout, but my arms don't feel like jello.

Does anyone else experience this and what suggestions do you have to keep the workouts intense, but focused on the part of the body that is meant to have the focus?

Hi, you don't know me (lol), but I found your blog through the Beachbody Buddies team.

One possible explanation for why you get Jell-O arms after workouts that AREN'T for UB: Typical arm and back strength training focuses on large muscles -- the "global movers." When you target other areas, the main role of the arms and back is stability, which involves small accessory muscles more. That's not to say that those muscles aren't working when you're doing an upper body workout, but if your larger muscles are very strong, you may not be recruiting the stabilizers as much, and as a result, they aren't being strengthened to the same degree that the large ones are, thus they become easily fatigued when you do have to use them a lot. Another possibility is that there is some circulatory issue in play, and the blood flow to your upper body is compromised by increased flow to other areas. This would suck, of course, but it's much less likely than the thing about movers vs. stabilizers.

I'm also clueless about what the S90 workout has you do, but many of the cardio workouts depend somewhat on very regular and active arm movements to elevate your heartrate. The arm workouts might not do that so much knowing that they'll be pushing you to use your arms for specific exercises.

Not sure what the S90 routine puts you through, so I better not weigh in.

Try looking to see what they have on sale at Sears, Target, Play it Again Sports, & Sports Authority if they have those near you....every now and then they have some good deals.

Sometimes health clubs replace their stuff too....maybe worth asking to see if they're going to re-stock

Why do my daughter and I start really connecting just when she is ready to move out?

Friday, May 11, 2012

My daughter is graduating from high school in two weeks and will be moving out June 1. I am very excited for her.

We had a rough few years of high school, but the last year she has just bloomed. Last spring she decided what she wanted to do after high school and got her self signed up for the program which has a year waiting list so that she would be able to enter the program when she graduated.

This year she has had a better than 3.0 each quarter (this is a girl that failed band!) and is most likely going to have all a's on her final report card.

She is working as a CNA and is going into a program to be trained as a medical assistant. She has gotten an apartment near her school so will be well settled before classes start.

Last night I was thinking I needed to rearrange my kitchen cabinets because there is stuff I don't use on the 2nd shelf and stuff I do use in the top shelf. I just opened the cabinet and the stuff is already switched!

I am so excited for her and ready for her to move out. I am not having empty house worries, but I am going to miss the fact that we are just connecting. I am hoping that the distance (less than an hour) helps make our connection even stronger and doesn't stop the growth.

I don't have kids at all, but I have seen many of my friends experience what you are. One--sounds like you were a great mom, and sometimes it takes time for all that good raising to show. And two--I think there's something about times of transition like yours that sparks changes.

Sounds like you have much to be proud of, and I'm impressed by your positive expectations for the changes ahead.

Glad ur DD had brains enough to get on the "waiting list" and go right into the program from high school. We have a waiting list for the medical programs here for over 2 years and I tried to tell my children to get on the list when they were in 10th grade so they could go right into one and do it for 2 years and have a "job skill." Well, they didn't listen to me.
My oldest son went to a real college program as he was a National Merit Finalist, ranking 19 in a class of 327, and he has an MBA now. My second son has a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia and still plans to go to medical school. My third got a degree and works at the ABC-TV station here. My 4th didn't go to college & HE is now looking for some job. NOT SMART. But he didn't listen to me. My DD will be a Jr. this fall, but even she could have gone to Dental Hygiene for 2 yrs and had a "skill" but she didn't listen to me. Glad ur DD is doing well.

I would think that happens because she feels like an adult now and is on a level similar to yours. She will soon be independent and can relate to you.
Enjoy your time together!

I can relate: just as my daughter emerged from spending nearly all of high school in her bedroom, we had a great summer before she left for college. It hit me hard. She visited only three times her freshman year and I ached for her (and kept thinking I did something wrong since she didn't want to visit and even told me my weekly "care packages" were just cluttering up her room so stop sending them). My son and her father told me to relax, give her space, and I tried not to hang on her leg -- and in her second year she visited often and even calls (something she never did before). Turns out though, she missed me that first year and wished we'd emailed more often. Email lets her respond on her own clock, whereas phone calls just went south immediately because it never seemed a convenient time. These days she pops in for a bit, gives me a hug and is on her way. Good luck!

I don't have a daughter, but I do remember that when I was growing up my mother and I would argue like cats and dogs. I got along better with her when I started going to college and eventually moved out and got married. I think that with us it was that when I grew up I understood her more and appreciated the things she was trying to teach me. Over the past 15 years or so, my mother and I get along great. We are practically best friends. I suppose that now she can play more of a friend role than a parent role. I do still learn a lot from her and I appreciate her advice much more now than I did when I was a kid.

Same thing happened with our daughter when she was a senior except her and her father did not stop wanting to kill each other until she was down there at school (she went to LaCrosse for a year).

They are growing up and as much as we think they do not listen to us as we contantly try to teach them, they do. She will call you once in a while but just give some space in the beginning. She needs to find herself but still will need her mommy once in a while. They (we) all do.

My first official 5k

Saturday, April 28, 2012

I did my first  official 5 k today!  36.12 minutes.  I have run faster, but considering it was cold and sleeting, I was happy with that time.

Again, I have confirmed that racing doesn't get me excited.  I completed the race, but I wasn't excited about it either during or after it.

After the race I went to the state AAU gymnastics meet to watch Cocoa-Jumbo's daughter compete.  Make sure to send her your congrats as her daughter is state floor champion and placed 2 nd for vault and all around and 3rd on bean and bars.  So exciting!

Now I am on my way to Illinois for my niece's 1st Communion.  I am nearly done with the 18 knotted rosarys that I needed for gifts for this year.  I was worried that I wasn't going to be done on time.  This is theist I have had to make and I didn't start until the beginning of April.

I've gotten lax on Supreme90.  I didn't do yesterday's workout since I had a 6:30 meeting and didn't do legs today because of the 5k (but I kind of feel I accomplished that anyway).  No workout tomorrow as I will be at my sisters. I shopping that I can at least take the girls for a walk in the morning to get some fitness minutes in.

Have a great rest of the weekend everyone!

    Good job on your 5K!

I'm coming up on my 2nd one this Sunday and have been practicing with a 5K a day each day this week. Saturday I take a break and hit the road for 40-50 miles on my bike. I am NOT a runner, but figure mixing it up is good for me.

How many months did it take to train to be ready for the 5K race? I just got interested in doing a 5K Bike race. I plan on training in the gym on the stationary bike first. Then go out & buy a bike if I can do it (i'm sure I can) & sign up for a 5K race for Heart Disease or Breast Cancer! Is this too lofty a goal? I've only been on SP for 5 months now & haven't lost any weight yet so I gottta do something drastic. emoticon
