Acceptance - Day 7

Monday, March 22, 2010

When I was younger, I was soooo obsessed with what others thought of how I looked and what I did, that I drove myself into yo-yo dieting all over the place. I was far more willing to hear the negatives, that when an actual compliment came my way, I thought I was being patronized. So when it comes to acceptance, I have a great appreciation for people who care about me, even knowing all my 'flaws'.

Which brings me to a smile for the day: Mark Gungor -- Song of Solomon Girl.
enjoy !

That is definitely one advantage I have found re: aging. I don't care even half as much what others think. It is so liberating!!!!!
Thanks for the YouTube. It was hysterical!!!
You are doing so well with your exercising. I am proud of you!!! emoticon

Food and Friends -- Day 6

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Almost every time I get together with friends, it always comes back to food. And it is hard to resist when the person you are with, thinks they have to shove food at you, to show you how much they care. I think I am going to make myself a button that reads: ‘Do Not Feed Me’,
so when they go into their ‘Would you like some …’ mode,
I can whip it out and put it on my shoulder.
I guess changing roles is hard on everyone, including the people who are used to seeing you a certain way.

To that, here is something to make you smile ….

I could use one of those buttons too. I find myself suggesting alternative activities when one of my friends suggests going out for lunch. She is always pushing MORE and MORE to eat. I like her alot, but do have to avoid food situations. emoticon

I need a "Do Not Give Me Alcohol" button. I've gotten pretty good at resisting food (even when it's thrust upon me), but alcohol is another matter. Especially in a culture where buying random people drinks is quite normal and drinking alcohol when out is pretty much expected. People have problems when you want to stop at one or two. I'm not sure why. Do they feel guilty because they are drinking more? No idea.

Bizarrely, it's the ones pointing out my weight gain and telling me I need to lose weight that are the worst culprits.

Attitude -- Day 5

Saturday, March 20, 2010

They say: In life, ATTITUDE is everything….Ain’t that the truth.
You are always going to find something you can’t be, or do, or have.
Maybe that ship has sailed, or it isn't meant to happen.
You should always have a Plan B.

So I give you … 3rd Rock from the Sun – Dick Returns to the Art Class

Mister Softee -- 4 of 100 challenge

Friday, March 19, 2010

I grew up in a housing project in the Bronx.
From 5 stories up, I would hear the Mister Softee Ice Cream Truck, beg my mother for money, and fly down those stairs...along with every other kid in the 15 story buildings within hearing of that music. You could have held the Mister Softee Olympics and broken world records in my neighborhood.

So I can thoroughly appreciate this clip from
3rd Rock from the Sun – Mr. Frosty Smooth

Today I plan to:
walk 2 miles -- done
30 minutes Zumba Salsa Dancercize -- done

When I was 4, my Mom, brother and I followed my Dad to Boston to be with him for the summer (he was in the Navy and stationed there). We lived in an upstairs apartment in an Italian neighborhood. Every afternoon at 1, I had to take a nap. I didn't necessarily have to sleep, but I had to rest (after having kids, I now know that it was my Mom who needed the rest). At exactly 2, a little ice-cream truck would drive through the neighborhood and park on the corner by our apartment. Music would play and he also had a little merry-go-round that seated 2 kids. That music signaled the end of my nap and meant that I could have a single-scoop chocolate cone. A similar tune can still trigger this response!!!

I grew up in a little town that had an ice cream store where everything was homemade. It was about 5 miles from our house. The park was about 6 miles away. My sisters and I had swimming lessons at the park and had to ride our bikes or walk there. We'd save our money from babysitting, or paper routes or berry picking and stop in on our way home from the park. It was so good on a hot day. Now I'm an ice cream addict. I think I eat it every day. Did you do your walk and dancercize? I am planning on a walk and some strength training and working my butt off around the house (it will take a lot of cleaning) since I have to work all weekend. Thanks for sharing.
