  VERY FUNNY.......
The scooter reminds me of my grand-father. When he was 93, he bought a scooter, and every day he would ride down to one of the local bars (for coffee) and park his scooter at the curb. The funny part was that the bar was one frequented by several guys and girls who rode Harleys and his little scooter was parked in among them. A picture of the group of "Bikes" actually made the paper.
I have been thinking of you when I hear how HOT the East coast is. Try to stay cool. It is hot and humid here too, but we are supposed to get some relief by Thursday. emoticon

Fun blog! Seems like a great way to do a 5K, however not as much exercise as most of us need. Love your fuel reference. Will just be putting one foot in front of the other I guess....

Stress Management for the Birds

Monday, July 05, 2010

I was watching a show Dr Oz had where he discussed the affect that stress had on belly fat, (a problem with which I am INTIMATELY familiar).

Link to the show :

All I want to know is…. With everything that’s going on….How the heck do you live without stress in this day and age? Please …tell me. It seems as if every time things start looking as if they are turning around, we get hit with another mega disaster. And everyone around me is stressed out, which makes them act crazy, which stresses me out even more.

Now I’m sure you’ve heard of the ‘Stress Prayer’ …
in fact you probably know it by heart:

“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I cannot accept, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill today because they pissed me off.
Also help me to be careful of the toes I step on today as they may be connected to the ass I may have to kiss tomorrow.
And, help me to remember ... When I'm having a really bad day, and it seems that people are trying to piss me off, that it takes 42 muscles to frown and only 4 to extend my middle finger and tell them to bite me!

The last time I saw this many birds I was watching an Alfred Hitchcock movie.
I’m never going to lose my belly fat….am I emoticon

I agree that it is nearly impossible to avoid stress but the key is learning how to deal with it in constructive ways.

Again, you made me smile even as I looked at my belly fat.
I think ELSEEBEE has quite an idea, make belly fat the new in thing. I know mine would go away then because I never have whatever the new in thing is.
Keep your sense of humor, you help relieve our stress.....

I LOVE your version of the Serenity Prayer!!!!!
I don't know what the answer to stress is. My husband and I are always saying that we thought that retirement was supposed to be somewhat stress-free compared to the working years........don't believe that pipe-dream!!!!! I KNOW that stress will always be a part of life.......I just need to find better ways to handle it!!! emoticon

We will conquer that belly fat together my friend - have you ever tried hoola hooping? My daughter is a pro at it - I'm going to ask her to show me how - that should help - shouldn't it?? emoticon

Think we can get a movement going to make belly fat the new "in"trend instead of the 6-pack abs? How about using belly fat as the new way to power automobiles? How about belly fat bird food?

Sorry, your blogs always make my mind go in weird directions. Think I'll sign off and go to my treadmill to burn off some of my abundance of belly fat. (Just so I'm through in time to watch Dr. Oz this morning when he tells me how bad belly fat is for me.)

Planning to Celebrate July 5th

Saturday, July 03, 2010

Party celebrations that center on food are always tough
Especially when everyone around you is focused on overindulging
This year I plan to celebrate weightloss and how good it makes me feel.

I’ll have some more of that iced tea please!

A New Barbecue Menu

Friday, July 02, 2010

I’m starting to feel like Barbara Streisand in ‘The Mirror Has Two Faces’, when she starts to really take care of herself and her tastes preferences change.
Don’t know if it is the little voice in my head that’s telling me:
‘This is good for you’
that all that demon sugar, fat, and salt has left my body, and I now appreciate whole foods with a clean palate. But either way…. It works.

I’m looking forward to a small barbecue on Sunday. But I’m doing it my way. And this time I’m bringing the healthy entree. With so many people trying to lose weight, I’ve gotten a very positive response from friends. Someone is bringing the fruit. Someone else is getting the whole wheat buns. We will be grilling pineapple and peaches for dessert. And there will be watermelon of course. Some of the die hards insist on the traditional 4th of July menu, and that’s fine. But with something like this on the table, how can anyone feel deprived?

I have started making kabobs at every BBQ. I chop up a ton of veggies and stick'em in a garlic-y marinade for a few hours (sticking a tooth pick through the tomatoes so the marinade gets inside the tomato!) and then grill! OH YUM!!! No one has ever complained that there were no hot dogs!

Oh, my mouth actually started to water when I looked at the beautiful grill filled with veggies. Would love to come to your party. Afraid my husband thinks brats, hot dogs & burgers are the best food for a picnic in the woods. I am trying to provide some good fresh veggies and nuts to munch on. Also seeing to it that there is water to maybe take away some of the soda.
Have a great party, yours will be healthy!!
