A Day that makes you feel Invincible

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Today I said goodbye to the 230s; so I am a HAPPY CAMPER. It's the numbers ending in zeros that really kill me with the psychological warfare. I know I'll never me back there again. period. And I feel like I can see 200 mark slowly starting to come into view. That would be a tremendous milestone for me. My current BMI is 31.8

Finally it's sunny, cool, and calm. It's a great day to excuses. I'm going to stretch my limits and see what I can do.

Isn't it wonderful to have that great feeling when you are finally rewarded for all of your hard work????
I have decided that instead of getting all whacked out when I am on a plateau for any period of time, I will say to myself,"If you can stay at one weight for this long.......maintenance will be a snap!!!" emoticon

It's Still Hot

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

emoticonLET THE SUN SHINE. emoticon

Iím making an effort to see things in a positive light.

Iím sticking to my plan of cooking once every few days and then just reheating or making salads. Saves a lot of energy and time. It is amazing how your tastes can change if you allow yourself to be flexible and try new things. One of my flaws used to be a stubborn resistance to veggies. Now itís my main focus and the calorie counts make me an avid fan. Wish I could get into exercise with the same enthusiasm. I keep telling myself to stop the BS and JUST DO IT. Ö..
but right now, itís too damn hot. emoticon

Iíve also gotten into my routines (thereís a team on spark as well). It helps minimize the time wasted on housekeeping. And for me it works like magic because being organized makes me want to spend more time taking care of my health instead of wasting hours doing periodic disaster recovery scenarios. And it makes me feel calmer and cooler. I guess there is something to the Feng Shui psychology.

I need to get some good recipes for salmon burgers. Looking for something spicy. I'm still talking recipes here. The rest will come later.

Ö.. Make it a fun day

I agree with everything PATRICIAANNA46 said. Hopefully the beautiful weather will stretch over your way. However we don't want it to completely leave our area.
Once in awhile I try to cook some things ahead but usually a couple of grandchildren show up and gulp, it is gone. Wouldn't change that for the world!
Think cool thoughts and have a favorite smoothie while waiting for the cooler weather.....

Oh how I wish I could beam you here!!! We had the most beautiful day we have had so far this summer. It was 72 and breezy and NO HUMIDITY!!!!! I will send it to you when I am finished with it. According to the weather man, it is supposed to be this way all week and our weather should come your way in a few days........I hope it does!!!
I have a very simple recipe for salmon burgers. I take 1 can of salmon and break it up with a fork. Beat one egg and add to the salmon. I also break up about 10 reduced fat Keebler Crackers and add to the salmon egg mixture and stir. As for spices, I don't know what your taste is, but I like 1 Tablespoon of Penzeys Spices Chicago Steak Seasoning (can be used for fish too) in about 1/2 cup of ketchup. I have used other sauces instead of ketchup, but always seem to come back. Hope you like it.

The Memory of a Great Day

Monday, June 28, 2010

I had a fantastic time yesterdayÖ. In more ways than one.
The zoo was great. If you want to see people at their best, go to a zoo. Watch people enjoying themselves in an environment that encourages family values. Even big tough biker types melt into marshmallows when they have their kids in their arms while they enjoy seeing Momma bear playing with her cubs. Donít know if the zoo brings out the humanity in people or the Ďnicerí people pick the zoo to enjoy with their families, but it works.

My dearest friends are a couple. Theyíve been there for me in countless ways, and Iím always amazed at the things I learn from them. The magical thing is that even though we became friends in our 40ís, I found out yesterday how closely connected our pasts are. We all lived in different sections of the Bronx. We went from the zoo, to her neighborhood and then to my neighborhood for dinner. If you want to see the passing of time, revisit a section of the city you havenít seen in over twenty years. Yikes! In our youth we went to the same movie theaters, the same shopping centers, and the same restaurants. Her school was next door to a school I attended. A restaurant they frequented when they first dated was a restaurant I used to go to in my old neighborhood. And New York isnít a small little town. A number of years ago my company moved from New Jersey to Connecticut, into the same building she worked in years before, for a different company. The coincidences are amazing. Itís as if we were always just a hairs breadth from running into each other, until at last I moved to their building in New Jersey. And it doesnít stop there, before we really got to know each other, they bought a second unit in the same building and moved into the unit adjacent to mine. Small world. Some friendships are just meant to be.

We ended up at a diner. Now... there is something about an endless menu and diner food that is just not suited to dieting. Maybe itís the mega portions, the fries, or the bread they automatically bring to the table, but I went blank when they brought me my food. I am happy to report that I managed to take off the top slice of bread on my vegetable panini. But when I logged my food last night, I completely disregarded the sweet potato fries that we had inhaled. It wasnít until I got on the scales this morning that I remembered. I vaguely remember telling the waiter "no fries", heard the word sweet potato, and changed my mind to yes in a nano second. Inner child strikes again. Sneaky Ö. Very very sneaky.

So today, itís hot and humid again. Iíve got my fruit and veggies waiting. My sun tea is brewing. Iím about to hop in the shower and venture out for an early morning walk. And Iím going to try to stay cool.

Make the day countÖ..

    First, loved your zoo picture!!
Second, so happy you had a great day with terrific friends. Surprising just how small this world is.
Third, you seem to have really tried with the dinner selections, and yes those inner child voices sometimes are very quick. But, sweet potatoe fries are just a little better than regular.
Fourth, hope you do keep cool, our temps here are supposed to be in the upper 70's instead of 80's. That sounds good for doing some exercising.....
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon might have to share that first one with your new zoo friends, Ha

Off to the Zoo

Sunday, June 27, 2010

As a little kid I associated a box of cracker jacks with the zoo. Always looked forward to the little prize. I'll be ecstatic if the scale cooperates with a drop tomorrow. If not, I will still have the memory of a fun day.

I guess expectations have a lot to do with how we weather events.
I know it's going to be hot, muggy, and busy.
I'm bringing a spare tank top and a little baggy with a damp washcloth.
That way I can cool off and switch tops when we go from hot humid zoo
to cool diner for the afternoon.

Planning ahead is something I'm learning on this journey.
It helps with the food and the expectations.
When I was younger, I would be floored loosing THIS slowly.
Now I'm just pleasantly pleased when there IS progress on the scale.

But I know I need to show a little more enthusiam with the exercise. That's my missing piece. My friend Savannah (THECRAZYMANGO) had a great suggestions; break it up. Going to do just that. I think I've read somewhere that if you really apply effort during those spurts, it gives a lot of impact to your metabolism.

I see a lot of progress in my belly area, which is a major concern for me. I can finally tell I'm now losing around my midsection ... even if the scale doesn't show it. At last, all my effort is taking a bite out of the 'APPLE' shape.
Have a great day, keep cool, and stay focused. emoticon

You have a fantastic attitude - I love this: "I am pleasantly pleased when the scale moves." Love it. It makes it sounds like a nice surprise rather than something to dread.

I also believe in spurts of exercise. That sounds like a good plan. I like it because I really hate long hauls at the gym but if I break it up it just seems more "normal" or casual.

I love the pic of the polar bear and I hope you had tons of fun at the zoo.

You really are getting into planning ahead, taking a extra shirt and baggie with cloth. Planning ahead for yourself takes some thougtht. I seem to always be planning ahead with what I need to entertain, wipe up after, or calm the grandchildren with.
Have a great day at the zoo, there usually are many fond memories attached to visits there. STAY COOL!!

I think that through this program, we have learned to be a bit more patient (the "BIT" applies to me). We are realizing that this is a slow process and that bit by bit or bite by bite, we will eventually reach our goals. I am also taking Savannah's advice and doing more SPURT-TYPE exercises over the day. I figure it can't help but rev up the metabolism more often. I have a dial-up computer service (we live in the country!) and because it is so slow, I have even developed ways to exercise while I am WAITING for downloads. I even do isometrics while I am typing.......Can't Hurt!!!
Have a great day at the ZOO......wish I could go with you. It is one of my favorite childhood memories and also some of my favorite memories with our kids. emoticon

It is so hot and humid in Florida that I don't go out, we even cancelled plans to go to the ball game last night. Maybe I'll go to the beach late this afternoon. Reading about the zoo motivates me to get out and play.
