Goals I Have Met This Week!

Monday, September 05, 2011

I finally made it to 10 pounds to lose!
I bought a new swim suit!
I made an appointment to get my hair cut and colored.
I made an appointment to have a make up consultation.
I walked 60 min. each day.
I did the elliptical for 70 min. each day.
I strength trained and did core exercises twice this week.
I ate healthy and within my calorie limits under extreme stress.

Now that all sounds great and I realize when I say I eat more and weigh less I sound like a weight loss commercial. However, it hasn't all been so peachy. I have actually retreated to the gym to get rid of angst. Yes!!! I never thought I would prefer exercise over comfort foods and chocolate but it happened. I think it is because I started this no excuses thing. I just have no excuses anymore.

I was the biggest weasel and I could find an excuse for anything but now I am a tiger when it comes to my goals. Now, it could be that I raised my calories to 1700 and it is easier to stay in this range or it might be because I am into a routine and schedule now that the "kids" are back in school. I think it has more to do with my attitude. No more excuses.

We have a lot of birthdays in our family in August. I could have used that as an excuse to eat cake and ice cream but I was really happy with the treat of strawberries and blueberries or watermelon. I could have used the excuse that my 15 year old daughter was brought home twice by the police this week (really) but I stuck with my eating plan and went to the gym to sweat it out and to do my yoga and stretching.

Now I have no excuses--I am really proud of my self. I have finally learned that I actually do come first. My health comes first! This might be a little late in life. I am 54 years old but I feel like I am younger than I was last year.

Now for the rest of September all I need to do is keep doing what I have been doing. No more excuses!

Sherry - wonderful news! You inspire me! I haven't been on SP much for the past 4-5 months and I have gained. I was having trouble even before I left SP. I put it down to age but you've shot that excuse out from under me - I'm 55, so not much older than you! What it really is - is a lack of committment. Time to get back to basics I guess. Keep up the good work!

Oh well...

Monday, April 11, 2011

Our old cat died and the kids cried. I will miss him but am glad he went to cat heaven. He had a tumor the size of a golf ball but his health was not good enough to have it removed. He was a loud cat--Siamese talk all the time. He tolerated the kids carrying him around when they were young and never scratched any of them! He was almost 20 years old and walked rather stiffly. I guess he had arthritis. Anyway, this cat was afraid of the vacuum cleaner but not the lawn mower. He loved to ride in the car but screamed bloody murder when we went through the car wash. I only did that once.

On another note, my nutritionist increased my calories to 1700 and although I had a hard time adjusting to eating so much, I am losing weight. I really had my doubts but... if it works I will continue to pig out!

I love spring! I am already planning my garden and can't wait to get my early veggies planted. The flowers are blooming and I was glad to see my Bleeding Heart made it through another winter. Some of the trees have leaves and we mowed the lawn on Sunday afternoon.

My boys are starting to count the number of days before finals! The year is going so quickly!

Well, my goals are to finish sorting all the home school books for the sale, build a new shed, clean the garage, continue to track my food and exercise, go fishing, open the pool in May and swim all summer!

Take care Spark friends. Stay strong!

Wow...great, ambitious goals! I like the one about opening the pool and swimming all summer. Fun! Enjoy! Sorry to hear of your kitty passing...it's so hard to lose a pet. They're just the best things. All 3 of mine are currently within 2 feet of me. I feel like Cathy Doolittle. Hope you have a great TGIF and a great weekend! Spark on! emoticon

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat! He sounds like he was a great companion. That's funny about the car wash. Wonder why you didn't go back? lol May memories such as that one bring you comfort and happiness. I'm sure he's having a great time in heaven, playing like a kitten again with his health fully restored! Bless you! emoticon emoticon

I am sorry about your kitty, that is good life for a kitty to live to 20.I refer to animal heaven as Rainbow Bridge. That sounds great on the 1700 calories,it seems like you would feel satisfied and not have hunger pangs, eating this amount.Let us know how that goes for you?I do love Spring myself,if we would get some spring like warmer sunnier weather,I would enjoy it more. The year has in fact has gone so fast, our oldest daughter is finishing her second year of college and her sister will be starting high school in 9th grade next year,Our youngest son will be finishing 6th grade. You also take care and Spark On! emoticonDiana:) emoticon

Happy Birthday!

Tuesday, February 08, 2011

I had a great Birthday! Happy #54! My son David came home from SIU for the weekend and that was a great present! My hubby and I went out to lunch on Monday and I had a nice light lunch even with the sweet potato chips!

My husband asked what I wanted to do this year and I really have not given it a thought! That is so unlike me! Well, I think it has to do with not working. I started a job on Jan.4th but it wasn't a good fit for me. Not at all! So, I am happily once more at home and retired! But, I need to get busy and start thinking of my goals and plans.

I don't even know if I want to take a vacation! What I have been doing is cleaning cabinets and closets. I am sorting and working on organizing. I find great comfort in getting rid of chaos. I have also watched the Dexter series with my son Chris this past week. It is fun to discuss the show with him.

I am getting back on track with eating and lost a pound last week. I have relied on my food scale and the food tracker--no big secret there!

Well, off to unemployment services I go and then to the gym. Have a great day fellow Sparkers!

Happy Belated Birthday, Sherry. Hope you had a good one.
As far as the cleaning and organizing... I understand how you feel. I, too, find comfort in all things in their place.
Don't be blue. It's that time of year where everything is kind of cold and dismal, but spring will come, you'll be even lighter than you are right now and you'll have a wonderful vacation with your family.
There's so much to look forward to!!

Have a great week!
Jodi

I Did Something New

Friday, December 17, 2010

Well, Monday was a snow day so I filled out an application on line for a job as an RN at a Mental Health Facility for teens and adults. They also have a substance abuse unit. 5 minutes after I hit submit, the phone rang and they wanted to schedule an interview. I almost fainted. This my first interview in 22 years!

I went to the interview on Wednesday. I felt so good after the interview. They offered me more money than I expected, 3 weeks vacation, good benefits, and a choice of hours and positions. They called on Thursday and I have an appointment on Monday to go in and sign papers and schedule a doctors appointment and training/orientation.

I am thrilled.

I haven't worked outside my home for 21 years. I just thought I might have to take a refresher course at the college . I was convinced I was not really going to get a job. I am 53 years old and competing with all the young nurses! My references are friends I have worked with at the home school association and they are my friends, too. How silly! That is a little less than professional but all my supervisors are dead except the one who has Alzheimer's. The two hospitals I worked at before are closed or merged.

So, where did all this confidence come from? Well, thanks Spark People and all my Sparkie Friends! I feel so much more confident and walk with my head held high. I am sure the cute clothes help, too! I look like I have energy! In fact, I feel younger every day. The exercise and healthy food, the spark teams and friends, the daily goals, all have helped to change my life. Thanks a million.

I start after the first of the year so I have all the holidays free! Merry Christmas!

Don't let all those young nurses intimidate you. If they're young, they can't have too much experience. You may not have worked as a nurse for awhile but your life experience will outweigh theirs by far, especially on a mental health unit. I've worked mental health in the past, both in kids and adult units and also in substance abuse units. Common sense goes a long way there - or in any job for that matter. You're going to do just fine. Congratulations! I'm excited for you. Can't wait to hear about it all.

Wow, awesome news , with so many perks and strokes, instant interview, choice of hours and positions, more money than you expected, wow, wow wow !!! That is good to see they value your experience. And to be working in unit that is so helpful to very needy people will be stressful, but also very rewarding to be using your skills to make a difference in people's quality of life beyond helping heal physical illness.

Good for you !!
