Wicked Weather With Wild Wet Winds

Sunday, June 19, 2011

...and yet we are the fortunate ones!

I live in south-central Ontario and we've had some WICKED weather. Winds that downed trees by the dozen and power lines still live hit us just about 2 weeks ago. Most of the city was without power for at least 4 hours. The sky was green and there were reports of wind funnels/tornadoes but fortunately they were only high winds. My power was back on in 4 hours but a lot of the city was out of power from 7pm Friday night until late Sunday night. I am thankful to God I had power and didn't lose any food...and that nobody was seriously injured in the storm and that there were no reported deaths.

Aside from that one day, we've had a lot of thunderstorms and if there are storms, my computer is OFF. I don't have the money to replace a computer and I choose to not risk losing all the information I have stored on its 100GB hard-drive.

I myself have been going through some physical storms. I have upset stomach constantly for over a month and have no clue as to what is happening. I see my family doctor on July 5, my nephew's 18th birthday :D and hopefully he will be able to help me figure things out.

While I have missed SparkPeople over the last few weeks, I've had time to adjust to new medications and adjustments in them. It's been far too humid to do anything from the standpoint of humidity and acute bronchial asthma.

I have gotten back to the basics of journalling, crocheting, and other hobbies I enjoy like playing my piano.

So while we have had some wicked weather, I count myself fortunate because in Manitoba there is terrible flooding and on the other side of us, Quebec too has had plenty of flooding. Ontario in the middle has had its storms, but I have yet to hear of farmers fields completely destroyed, houses wasted away by water and the loss of everything a person owns. I am sorry for the people in both of these provinces.

I am also sorry that the riot in Vancouver put us Canadians in such a bad light. Never have I been more ashamed to be a Canadian than watching the useless, violently, outright brutal immoral actions of those who call themselves Canadians!!!!!! To ruin vehicles and damage and loot stores because a hockey team does not win the Stanley Cup is NOT how TRUE CANADIANS RESPOND!!!!!!!!! TRUE CANADIANS ACCEPT THE BAD WITH THE GOOD!!!!!!!

What made up for the riot after Boston won the Cup, was watching other people who live in Vancouver come together to CLEAN UP! THAT is true CANADIAN PATRIOTISM, not the stupid riots!

A lot has happened since my last post, both in Canada and in my life. I am optimistic that I can get caught up by just pacing myself. The team I lead is well looked after by a co-leader and the fact that they are a team and a team should be able to keep together while a leader has an absence for whatever reason.

I pray your weather is fine and you are enjoying the days of summer. Before long it will be back to the old grind and holidays will be over, so slow down now and enjoy each moment of each day, taking the time to be grateful for the people in your life and the little blessings we often take for granted - items people in those floods have lost forever.

It's never too late--in fiction or in life--to revise - Nancy Thayer, author

In life, you get one chance at most things. You get one chance to choose to dance with the person who asked or not. You choose to study in school and pass, or redo or drop out. In most decisions, you get one chance to make the decision. Do I accept the job or not? Do I have children or should I pass? Do I get drunk and party hard or not? Do I lose my cool and throw a temper tantrum or work through it? There are endless possibilities.

The nice thing about being a writer myself, is that I can go back and edit. In fact, in school, kids are forced to go back, reread things, edit things, make sure it is what they want to hand it. Because once it's handed in, it's too late to edit and make revisions. In school, you have that one chance that Nancy Thayer is talking about. As a writer, however, you can edit until your heart's content! And even if you write something and it doesn't go over well, you can write something else to correct that mistake! That's the joy of being a writer.

But in human life, we are often given one chance. It's like that saying, When opportunity knocks, open the door and walk on through. I took that chance when I was 21. One of my good friends worked for a reputable department store. She knew I had just had surgery and her boyfriend, the 2nd top manager of the store, came with her to church. I met him and the 3 of us talked. He asked if I wanted a job! Astonished and shocked, I said I'd love one, but asked how he could know I was qualified. He said after talking with me he knew me and that he trusted his friend's opinion because she had worked with him for many years. I started work within a week! I stayed a year until I went back to school.

What if I had said I don't no or I don't think so? I would not have gotten two raises in one year. I would not have the experience of the Customer Service Centre, the Case Shop where all the money is and where all the cheques are processed and so on. I would not have gotten to know all the managers and so on. I'm glad I took the job, even though it only lasted a year.

Another choice I was faced with was when I was extremely sick with epilepsy. I was having 5-20 seizures each day while on 4000-5000mg of anti-seizure medication daily. My neurologist sent me to see specialists. After waiting for 2 years, I went in for observation/treatment. I was the last person in the 4-bed unit and I was the first one scheduled for surgery. It was decision time. I was told the odds...98% chance of never having a seizure again without meds, and 2% chance of never having seizures again with meds. Despite the odds, I was terrified. I had to make a decision instantly. I signed the consent form and I had surgery. Was it successful? It is almost 19 years since I had a Right Temporal Lobectomy and I have not had one seizure and I am on no anti-seizure medication.

If I had said no to the operation, with no word of a lie, I'd likely be dead by now. Like the quote says, it's never too late to revise (or go back and redo it) IN FICTION.

We live in real life, real time. We can't stop our lives like when we take a break from reading a book where time stands still until we pick it back up again. We live in reality. We have one chance to make a decision. We may have several opportunities to make the same or similar decisions, but we still only get one chance per decision.

If you are going to make decisions, make them wisely.

You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never now how soon it will be too late. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Everything comes too late for those who only wait.
Elbert Hubbard

Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.
Benjamin Franklin

There are 5 things you cannot recover:
The stone...after the throw!
The word...after it is said!
The occasion...after the loss!
The time...after it's gone!
The action...once it is done!

Don't take the chance that you will wish to revise your life. . STOP, THINK, BREATHE, LOOK, RESPOND . It's a 5 step process. STOP what you are doing. Think about what is going on and what the appropriate thing to say or do would be. BREATHE a few deep breaths to slow yourself down. LOOK around at the situation and decide if it is worth reacting or responding to. RESPOND once you have calmed down or thought it through. It's through these steps you are more likely to make a better informed decision than if you just REACT. You can't turn back the time so take the time to make the best choice for you, your life, and your future.

As an added footnote to this article I wrote in 2009, I want to add that it is NEVER TOO LATE to start living a healthy lifestyle. While some things may have happened - health conditions etc., it is NEVER too late to begin anew. The only time it is too late is when you are buried 6 feet beneath the surface of the Earth. Even seniors exercise on a daily basis is most retirement and nursing homes. My grandparents were in them and they daily did small exercises while seated to keep loose, muscles toned etc. Make no excuses, start today!

When you reach a crossroads in your life, be sure to really think before you choose or you will regret it for the rest of your life. Never make hasty decisions, especially when you are emotional.
And when you are calm and decisive,

I love Nancy Thayer's Hot Flash Club books.

What a great blog -- you have captured how exciting and rewarding it is to seize the opportunities -- but also if we have missed an opportunity in the past, it isn't too late to get back on track -- especially for healthy stuff!

There are some REALLY great sites for information on how to deal with negative people in every aspect and area of your life. Due to copyright policies and SparkPeople restrictions, I cannot put the entire articles, but I will put the links to the sites and the Titles of the Articles. I hope you find what you are looking for.

NEGATIVE THINKING - Negativitis' cripples the human spirit

And for those who want a Biblical or Christian aspect added to it, check out the following ONE link:

HOW YOU THINK DETERMINES YOUR LIFE - The Powers of a Positive Attitude

I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.

A loving person lives in a loving world. A hostile person lives in a hostile world. Everyone you meet is your mirror.

One man has enthusiasm for 30 minutes, another for 30 days, but it is the man who has it for 30 years who makes a success of his life.

A man can succeed at almost anything for which he has unlimited enthusiasm.

To be wronged is nothing unless you continue to remember it.

Being positive or negative are habits of thoughts that have a very strong influence on life.

Positive and negative are directions. Which direction do you choose?

Positive thinking is expecting, talking and visualizing with certainty what you want to achieve, as an accomplished fact.

Positive thinking opens your mind, it elevates your mood, it opens up a world of possibilities to you.

Your mind is all yours, you control every thought and every action brought about by those thoughts.
No one can cause you to have any kind of emotional reaction without your first giving them permission to do so.

You alone are responsible for your feelings and emotions. When you know what you plan to do with your life, you will not allow annoying situations to deter you from your goals for long.

If you set ambitious goals for yourself and work enthusiastically toward them, you will quickly realize that you donít have time to allow petty annoyances to upset you and keep you from your objectives.

Use these positive thinking quotes to open your mind and expand your world:

We cannot become what we need to be by remaining what we are.

I used to say, "I sure hope things will change." Then I learned that the only way things are going to change for me is when I change.

A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.

The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results.

For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.

Everyone knows that change is inevitable and it happens fast!

It takes more energy to resist change than it does to embrace it. Change is like rain, we all know it is good for us but none of us want to get wet.
Your resistance to change is rooted in the fear of the unknown. Therefore, you gain great power and confidence by understanding what a particular change means to you.

As you understand change and your reactions to it, you begin to see the growth and benefits that change can bring and you may never be afraid of getting wet again.

Use the wisdom from these positive thinking quotes to enact a change in yourself.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Attitudes are contagious. Are yours worth catching?

If you don't think every day is a good day, just try missing one.

It's so hard when I have to, and so easy when I want to.

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.

Every day may not be good, but there's something good in every day.

A positive attitude leads to happiness and success.

If you look at the bright side of life, your whole life becomes filled with light.
This light affects not only you and the way you look at the world, but also your whole environment and the people around you. If it is strong enough, it becomes contagious.

Live your life through the power of positive thinking and happiness cannot elude you.

A positive attitude helps you handle everyday events with much more ease. It brings optimism into your life, and makes it easier to avoid worry and negative thinking.

If you develop an attitude of positive thinking it will bring wonderful changes into your life. Your days will be happier, brighter and more successful.

With positive thinking you see the bright side of life, become optimistic and expect the best to happen. It is certainly a state of mind that is well worth developing and strengthening.

Enjoy some more positive thinking quotes:

Happiness is an attitude. We either make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong. The amount of work is the same.

If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it.

He who has so little knowledge of human nature as to seek happiness by changing anything but his own disposition will waste his life in fruitless efforts.

Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures.

Every thought is a seed. If you plant crab apples, don't count on harvesting Golden Delicious.

To be upset over what you don't have is to waste what you do have.

The only disability in life is a bad attitude.

With these positive thinking quotes, don't just read the words, savor the meaning, there is so much that you can take from them.

The power of positive thinking has the ability to bring so much good in to your life.

A positive thinking mind anticipates happiness, joy, health and a successful outcome of every situation and action. Whatever the mind expects, it finds.

Positive thinking and negative thinking are both contagious. All of us affect, in one way or another, the people we meet.

People sense our feelings and are affected by our thoughts. Is it any wonder that we want to be around positive thinking people and shun negative ones?

Always visualize only favorable and beneficial situations. Use positive words in your inner dialogues or when talking with others.

Smile a little more, as this helps to keep you filled with positive thinking. Disregard any feelings of laziness or a desire to quit.

If you persevere, you will transform the way your mind thinks. Positive thinking will have you expecting only favorable results and situations, and circumstances will change accordingly.

It may take some time for the changes to take place, but eventually they do. To follow are just some of the benefits from a life fueled by positive thinking:
Helps achieving goals and attaining success.
Success achieved faster and more easily.
More happiness.
More energy.
Greater inner power and strength.
The ability to inspire and motivate yourself and others.
Fewer difficulties encountered along the way.
The ability to surmount any difficulty.
Life smiles at you.
People respect you.

In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful.

Being in a good frame of mind keeps one in the picture of good health.

To be wronged is nothing unless you continue to remember it.

Say you are well, or all is well with you,And God shall hear your words and make them true.

Good fortune shies away from gloom. Keep your spirits up. Good things will come to you and you will come to good things.

Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Reading through positive thinking quotes really can be very therapeutic.

Sometimes it is the simplest tasks that have the largest effects.
Positive thinking has the power to drive away thoughts of doom and gloom. You should find as many resources as possible to turn to when you feel those negative thoughts sneaking in.

When you wake in the morning, think of what a beautiful privilege it is just to be alive, to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.

Love yourself first and everything falls into line.

Your chances of success in anything that you try can always be measured by your belief in yourself and belief should be born from positive thinking.

The difference between can and cannot are only three letters. These three letters have the ability to determine your entire life's direction.

If you have been exhibiting a negative attitude and expecting failure and difficulties, it is now the time to change the way you think.

It is time to get rid of negative thinking and destructive behavior and start leading a happy and successful life.

Why not start today?

If you have tried and failed before it just means that you have not tried hard enough.

Through the power of positive thinking you can Develop a positive attitude that will lead you to happiness and success.

Choose the following actions and live really live!
- Choose to be happy.
- Look at the bright side of life.
- Choose to be and stay optimistic.
- Find reasons to smile more often.
- Have faith in yourself and in the Power of the Universe.
- Contemplate upon the futility of negative thinking and worries.
- Associate yourself with happy people.
- Read inspiring stories.
- Read inspiring quotes.
- Repeat affirmations that inspire and motivate you.
- Visualize only what you want to happen.
- Learn to master your thoughts.
- Learn concentration and meditation.

Take the time to read through these positive thinking quotes, you never know when something will trigger a hidden emotion that when brought to the surface it can really affect a change in your life.

Positive thinking and negative thinking are attitudes. They are points of view, and show the way people handle their affairs.

Suppose you stand at a crossroads, one way leads to a desert and the other one to lush meadows, which way do you choose?

Clear thoughts produce produce clear results.

Positive thinking evokes more energy, more initiative and more happiness.

Train your mind to think in terms of 'possible' and 'can be done'.

When you have control over your thoughts, you have control over your life.

Happy thoughts attract happy people into your life.

Happy thoughts fill your life with happiness.

When you change your habitual thoughts, it is like changing the direction of a train.

Affirm the positive, visualize the positive and expect the positive, and your life will change accordingly.

When there are difficulties and you feel down, this is the time to visualize, think and expect the positive.

Do not let circumstances influence your thoughts and moods. By rising over them mentally, you will eventually rise over them materially.

Fill your mind with light, happiness, hope, feelings of security and strength, and soon your life will reflect these qualities.

The real secret of happiness is simply this: to be willing to live and let live, and to know very clearly in one's own mind that the unpardonable sin is to be an unpleasant person.

This is the best day the world has ever seen. Tomorrow will be better.

Act as if you were already happy and that will tend to make you happy.

True happiness is not made in getting something. True happiness is becoming something. This can be done by being committed to lofty goals. We cannot become something without commitment.

I do not think there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature.

Riches, mediocrity and poverty begin in the mind.

Reality is the mirror of your thoughts. Choose well what you put in front of the mirror.

The mind is the decisive factor in your life, but who decides for the mind?

A positive attitude brings strength, energy and initiative.

To think negatively is like taking a weakening drug.

Positive thoughts are not enough. There have to be positive feelings and positive actions.

When you say, "I can't" and expect the worst, you become weak and unhappy.

When you say "I can", and expect success, you fill yourself with confidence and happiness.

Being resolute, decisive and courageous in small matters and in big ones is being positive.

You can close the windows and darken your room, and you can open the windows and let light in. It is a matter of choice. Your mind is your room. Do you darken it or do you fill it with light?

I hope that you fill yours with light! I hope that you can find the positives in life!I hope that I have helped to open your eyes to some of the wonders that are all around us!

The key to life is to learn every aspect of life there is a balance to be found. If you are able to find that balance and live it, you will have

Hope you enjoyed the journey to dealing with the inevitable occurrences of crossing paths with people who have a negative outlook on life. The best thing you can do is to NOT be one yourself :)

Because your life will have ripples that affect people all around you. Enjoy your day and your life!

For those that do not know me, I have 35 medical conditions and have to use a walker to walk because 5 of those conditions are chronic back/pain issues. I've searched for a long time for exercises one can do while being seated that are effective to raise your heartbeat, make your body feel warm and to find strength exercises. I finally came up with a full body workout that can be done sitting in a chair. I know there are many people with limited mobility issues so I thought I'd post here what exercises I do in case you or somebody you know needs the ideas.

Total Seated Body Strengthening

Seated Abdomen Tuck
Seated Heel Raises
Seated Single Knee Raises
Seated Outward Knee Press
Seated Toe Riases
Seated Leg Extensions
Seated Butt Tuck
Seated Bending Low Crunch
Seated Bicycle
Seated Jackknife
Seated Hand Crunches With Squeezers/Hand Grips
Seated Arm Circles
Seated Boxing Punches
Seated Upper Back Row With Tubing
Seated Bicep Curls With Tubing
Seated Reverse Flies
Seated Shoulder Press With Tubing
Seated Arm Curls With Tubing
Seated Ax Chop with Tubing
Seated Shoulder Rolls - Both Directions
Seated Shoulder Shrugs
Seated Hand Exercises - Circles
Seated Shin Exercises
Seated Leg Pull-Ins
Seated Knee Extensions
Seated Hamstring Stretch
Seated Hip Abductors
Seated Chin Tuck - Neck Exercises
Seated Chin Stretch Out - Neck Exercise
Seated All Over Facial Stretch - Wide Mouth
Seated Side Head Tilts - Neck Stretch
Seated Vowel Mouth Stretches - Neck and Face 6 sets, 10 reps, 1 set for each vowel
Seated Double Chin, Neck Pull Back

I enjoy doing this workout daily if I am not able to get out for my walk due to rain, snow, extreme humidity during Summer months etc. It takes time to research and find something that one can use, but in the end, the result always exceeds the effort that is put into finding something that can be done, enjoyed and a feeling of accomplishment of working towards the weight loss and toned body journey. Best wishes to all Seated Exercisers!!!!

Break free from the bondage of overeating and excuses to not exercise. Where there is a will, there IS A WAY! (Even if that way is by way of sitting)

Wow - great ideas! Helps people focus on what they CAN do, not what they CAN'T do. When I had severe knee problems, I also found several floor exercises to strengthen leg and butt muscles, without causing additional damage.
